A few answers to common questions regarding this chapter:
(Obviously spoilers!)
- How could the victim be strangled with toilet paper.
-- It is CLEARLY STATED that in the virtual world, objects are unbreakable, which means the toilet paper would be untearable and could be used to strangle a victim easily.
- But if the victim's avatar was set to 'object' status, souldn't it be unbreakable - and hence unkillable - too?
-- Yes. I believe that is an oversight, but opinion is divided and it depends on your definition of 'break'. I think 'break' means rendering an object unable to function through the application of force, in which case the victim's avatar could not have been killed. Others believe 'break' means sundering the physical integrity of the target (i.e. breaking it to pieces), and in that case, the victim's avatar was killable.
- Why did the killer commit murder? This wasn't in his/her character at all!
-- The killer committed murder for two reasons: firstly, (s)he was tricked by someone else and thought (s)he was protecting everyone by eliminating the victim, and second, incorrectly inserting the plugs into the virtual helmet's ports caused radical changes in behaviour.
I think avatars were also unbreakable i mean how else would you disquise a murder with the hammer as murder with poison
Avatars were not unbreakable, only objects were. And while killing an avatar would also kill the real person, they cause of death would still be shock, regardless of how the actual murder occurred. Bashing an avatar's skull with a hammer in the virtual world wouldn't cause the real life person to have a head injury.
elstormo didn't he commit murder to mercy kill everyone cuz he didn't want everyone to know of the despair the "outside world" was in and he didn't want them to expirence it.

When you think about it Miu was going to die anyway. If her plan did go the way she planned she would’ve killed Kokichi and then would’ve got caught and executed.
Honestly I don't think Miu would have got caught. The main gimmick that tricked everyone was the fact that they took everything that Miu said as fact because she edited the world. Kokichi was the only other person besides Miu who knew the truth of the virtual world. If she had killed Kokichi, She would almost certainly gotten away with the murder unless Shuichi somehow managed to figure out all the trick by himself or she royally fucks up by herself.

But you have to think about how Miu planned it so well that she wouldn’t have gotten caught, especially since it’d take place in the virtual world. If Miu hadn’t died, everyone else would’ve.
@@phillm.6701 tsumugi saw miu through the window and the the poison she planted wouldnt match the conditions of death, she was the one to throw the bridge into the water and also the last one to enter the virtual world in order to plant the poison.not to mention that she is the creator of the virtual world so had complete control over it. So yeah she TOTALLY wouldnt have been caught

Gonta’s death was probably the most gruesome of them all... Same with Kokichi’s. :’(
RainyAngel 205 It’s likely more painful than gruesome, actually. I mean, dying on impact after such a big fall... And she got cut multiple times by those buzzsaws, so that would explain the blood pooling under her body when she hit the ground. I shuddered the first time.
In my opinion Korekiyo was the most gruesome why cuz he got a headache while spinning around(probably) he was bleeding out of his eye and HIS SOUL CAN'T LIVE ON
Kiyo's execution is nothing compared to Kirumi's she had to climb a spiky vine, get cut by buzzsaws, fall to her death, get cut by the saws AGAIN while falling, but hey it's your opinion

I don't think that Miu's plan would incriminate Gonta. Remember he only got involved to save Kokichi.
And Miu didn't make it clear if her objective was to imply Kokichi killed himself with the poison or if Kaito killed him with it.
Then gonta would have lived because shuichi would have seen threw the bullshit

In some instances, so it's probably just a mistake. There's no point saying the culprits name at the same point a shadowy figure is shown

Yeah, there were a few times that happened. Kaede's plan and the zipline over the pool, for instance.
This one bugged me the most Coz it was so simple and took them so long to figure it out

True, but remember that just because we're gamers and are used to looping worlds in games, that doesn't mean that all the characters also play enough video games to realize that.
Whether Kokichi completely manipulated Gonta or just enough to get him to cooperate for the sake of what he saw was a horrible world to live in is not that important. What is important is this case showed no matter how nice and sweet someone is, they are still capable of anything. He may have regretted taking part in her murder, but he not only murdered her in a slow and painful way, he did attempt to hide his crime. The reason the trial lasted as long as it did is because he didn't remember anything due to the cord mix up. I'm not sure he was articulate enough to make good enough arguments to draw suspicion away from himself if he had his memory of then he virtual world. Then again, who knows what he may have been capable of at that point. I kind of think that was a missed opportunity there. IMO of course.

If you think about it from another perspective, Gonta's kindness was his motivation. After he saw the "truth" about the outside world, he felt dread, fear, despair, and so on, and that's justifiable. If I was told that the world was destroyed and we're the last humans on earth, I would feel the same way, literally your loved ones are dead and the closest thing you have to friends can plot a murder to backstab someone. In the end, Gonta saw as that despair isn't worth it, and he didn't even want Monokuma to win. Gonta here was simultaneously good and bad here, and I thought the moral from this trail was, sometimes to be the good guy, you have to do not so good stuff

Mondo's murder of Chihiro wasn't an accident. It wasn't premeditated, but it certainly wasn't accidental. He meant to kill him, even if it was because he couldn't control his anger, and even if he did feel guilty afterward. There's a difference between killing someone by accident, and killing someone intentionally but without premeditation. Mondo slammed a dumbbell down on Chihiro's head to kill him, plain and simple.

Actually, if they were all in the virtual world, Miu could secretly log out(without somebody notice of course) and kill Kokichi. After kill that little brat, she could log in back into the virtual world. But, the problem is, when log in, they will in the mansion, however Miu was assigned to check the chapel, so she need to figure out a plan to avoid being caught. Or maybe she could tamper something that can make her log in back the place she were.
SPOILERS
If Gonta did the plugs right or someone helped him, then he probably would've gone through with Kokichi's plan, except apprehending Miu instead of strangling her. While having Miu apprehended, he could've convinced her to not kill Kokichi, and Gonta and Miu could've survived to the end.

While gontas death was definitely one of the most gruesome, it was probably the least brutal, gonta obviously pulling through the bees, but when the big bug comes out and stabs him, and then monokuma lights him on fire, so gonta wouldn’t have been in pain long, definitely one of fastest and painless executions of the series
in my opinion Miu's case is the saddest. discovering that who killed her was Gonta and that who convinced him to kill her was Kokichi makes me sad. Gonta was a really sweet guy.

Yes, I wondered the same thing as I played. I believe that's an oversight by the writers. It's definitely true that objects are unbreakable (and therefore also unkillable) in the virtual world. I'm sure the writers could handwave it somehow, but the fact is, it's a small error they made (although to be fair, it's one of the very, very few errors in a very, very complex game so it can be forgiven).
Well it's not like any part of her body actually broke. It's just that her air supply was cut off.
Depends how you define 'break'. I think making an object unable to function through the application of force counts as 'breaking' it.
I think your definition applies mainly to machines. I feel the game developers definition of break in the game's sense was "separate or cause to separate into pieces as a result of a blow, shock, or strain", such as the toilet paper. This is different from your definition which is "make or become inoperative" like a machine would. Both are dictionary definitions. So though Miu was still an object, I don't think it counts.
Mmmh. It's a matter of interpretation, but I think we can all agree that this is something that should have been clarified by the writers, if only to avoid disagreements such as this.

If you look at it from a philosophical stand point, the Gonta that participated in the 4th class trial isn't the same Gonta that killed Miu. Memories are a *huge* part of what make us who we are, and considering what he learned about their entire situation regarding the killing game, that would change a person for life. I wonder what kind of sentence we would give Gonta in our world, if he were to commit murder in this exact same way with the same circumstances. Danganronpa killers are almost always sympathetic, but for this trial i actually think Gonta doesn't qualify for being the blackened.
To be honest- even if Miu’s plan succeeded- It’s gonna be a easy class trial since the evidences still leads to her and it’s kind of obvious- in my opinion at least-
Maybe she wouldn't let them check the neo world stats so they don't find out her and kokichi's avatar settings. Maybe even change them back to their original state later on so she stops being a suspect. But hey, if Miu did kill Kokichi, Gonta would've lived up to Chapter 5!
