Your thinking grade/elementary school. These are high schoolers who probably do have access to somewhat rare cards and likely keep them in good condition.
This ONE episode did a lot of condensing from the manga, and it didn't quite work well, lol In the manga Kaiba tried to steal the blue eyes from Solomon as his first, and this was a grudge match after he lost and got the rest first The reason holograms bother yami is because there were similar illusions in a shadow duel they had before, which were created by the millennium puzzle, so kaiba was using technology to mimic one of the powers of the millennium items, its quite a feat Also, it differs sub vs dub, dub kaiba denies magic exists a lot, but sub kaiba simply doesn't care I DO wanna mention a line from the sub vs the dub here When they're playing the game early on, they explain putting your hand on your deck is how you surrender in duel monsters, when yami goes to draw his last card and freezes, kaiba says "Whats wrong yugi? Reaching for surrender?" And yami replies "Not for surrender, but for hope" and draws the last card
Oh wow!! Thats amazing! okay I gotta go and read the manga! Well my stuff still stands because they could've adapted the reactions, and dialogue choices to make more sense.
@@NitPik-p3r Yes. You should. Yugioh DM anime did kind of mixing between in the manga early arc before it was about Duel Monsters, and the era of Duel Monsters. I think this is a good point. When a show creates stand-alone media, it needs to be able to stand alone. That's one thing I think CinemaSins is right about compared to Th3BirdMan; the books don't matter. So anything in season 0 or the manga, shouldn't matter if this is stand alone. But when a show is translated, I think its fair to have to look at the original translation before considering it an issue.

@@NintendoFan7141I mean that’s the same in the anime too. And it’s hard to even argue for it being inaccurate after GX and 5D’s explicitly follow the anime continuity.

yup! I looked around, and all the videos similar to this are ONLY ABOUT THE RULES! all due respect to those channels, but honestly the rules never bothered me (unless it was a direct contraction to itself)
I mean to be fair, the game only exists because a very rudimentary version of it appeared in the original manga like twice, and it struck a chord with fans. To the point where shonen jump literally had the author completely revamp the story to be a lot more lighthearted so that they could market the game to children. There is an entire character who just doesn’t exist in season 1 onward.
The big thing is that this whole season is actually that the modern TCG wasn’t actually developed yet in Japan. It was between the version from the manga/Season 0 and its actual version. It’s why in the Japanese version they keep mentioning “Duelist Kingdom rules” and such. Battle City was in the show just “we are playing the game normally now with a banlist.”
Answering the for questions at 2:00. Solomon was worried about Joey damaging it because as stated 1/4 in existence. But the sentimentality is why he won't sell it. I might just understand this because I have a card similar, so it make sense to me. As for why Kiba goes through everything to destroy that Blue-Eyes. Grandpa Moto is old, and Yugi his grandson who plays the game. It makes sense to believe it would later end up in Yugi's deck if he didn't get to it now.
Can I just say... Now that youre saying that second point. How funny would be in an alternate world. Kaiba never takes Solomon's blue eyes. Then Pegasus never learns about Yugi. But Joey's sister still needs money for eye operation. So yugi convinces solomon to sell the card to cover the cost - OR Joey steals the card - sells it - to cover the cost
So I should point out that many of these problems are 1. Something the 4kids dub is to blame for 2. Due to the adaptation trying to cram an entire arc into 1 episode
I know you’re talking about season one, but can we talk about how fucking unhinged season zero Kaiba and Yugi are? Duel Monsters is JUST A GAME in season zero, Unlike in the rebooted version that aired in the west, where it seems like if two countries go to war, their leaders just play duel monsters about it. And I feel like this is important because that means Kaiba really called up Yugi on the phone was like “if you ever want to see your grandpa again you must defeat me in a game of magic the gathering!!!! Nyaaaaahahahahahahaha” and then rather calling the fucking police, Yugi’s like “aight bet”
I love that someone's doing this, without overly focusing on the card effects but on the other aspects of the show that are inconsistent! Loved this so much I binged/ marathoned the videos you did to Episode 5 and even the comments video! Glad I was one of the first subscribers to push you over the 1k mark! Keep it up! Can't wait for the new videos! 😅
Oh 100%. Im sure! But I think a show needs to be able to stand alone. Like I feel like with a few dialogue changes, and some reaction changes - you could pretty much clean it up all
Yeah, the reason why Kaiba wanted to duel Yugi was explained in the manga since this is supposed to be their second duel after Yugi defeated and traumatized him.
@@diegomedina9637 Only after Death-T, the first time just gives him a traumatic night. The second time he "breaks his heart" daring him to put it back together the right way. Which he did at the end of Duelist Kingdom and that's why he is still a callous jerk in Battle City but not straight up evil like before.
Sure. But more could’ve been done to make that an issue in the anime. Just by simply having Kaiba look more impressed by yugis skills whenever he overhears their duel
@@NitPik-p3rBut this is technically the second Anime series. The first Anime series fully fleshed out the plotlines a lot better. This second series was a reboot, but done in a way that was expecting more people to be aware of the first series, and abridges the most important elements of that first series that matter for the second series. Think of it like how Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood did it. They had a first series, assumed everyone saw it, created the second series with a nonsensical filler opening, then RUSHED all of the scenes covered from the first series just so they could get to the new content. Even Hunter x Hunter does this, even though the pacing of the second series felt fine. But as soon as the brand new Chimera Ant arc came out, the pacing dropped considerably. Anime studios just didn't care enough when they were covering shows inaccurately the first time and rebooting their shows back in the day. Nowadays, they do care about accuracy to the source material and are very selective about when and how they add to series or omit content for brevity or improving upon the source.
6:07 This is a common misconception Kaiba doesn’t summon two blue-eyes in one turn. He summon blue-eyes and attacks gaia then ends his turn. Yugi then draws and sets a monster for two turns as blue-eyes continues destroys everything. During that time Kaiba draws his second blue-eyes and plays it.
I love how the first episode feels like it tries to cramp like 20 anime episodes worth of exposition because... Well that's exactly what it did. Episode 1 is literally the last episode of the previous arc in the manga.
Hi. Some issues with your points: 1. The thing with cards like the "Negative Energy Generator" in the anime, were made to work with monsters with really low ATK, probably 500 or less. Same thing happens with "Graceful Dice", which is ALWAYS used with low ATK monsters. 2. Kaiba didn't summon 2 Blue-Eyes in the same turn. That's a dub edit. They were summoned in different turns in the original. 3. Probably Solomon's deck didn't contain neither Mirror Force or Dark Hole. Those cards are added in the new Yugi's deck for Duelist Kingdom, probably from the cards in the shop. 4. The duel is not recorded. But the Duel Arena is Pegasus & Kaiba's technology (which was gonna be used in Duelist Kingdom), so probably they got the result from the machine. However, the rest of your analysis was pretty good, congrats for the effort. I enjoyed it.
Love how Tristan doesn’t know what Duel Monster's is, but does know about Seto Kaiba and the Kaiba Corp. They couldn't have just given those lines to different characters?
Appreciate you focusing less on card ruling and discrepancies on effects in the real game. So tired of hearing people try to shit on how the effects and rulings don't like up lol.
Thank you for commenting this! Yes! I got tired of every breakdown just talking about flame-swordsman not being a normal monster. Or how quick-play spells work
At first I thought this would be a copy and paste of all the other videos of this format that came before but you actually do have thoughts that I haven't heard before. Gotta subscribe now
A lot of these problems exist because of the dub or because the anime starts right before Duelist Kingdom and skips over Death-T. In the manga, it makes sense that Kaiba would be at the school so he could keep watch on Yugi who he plans to force into doing Death-T to get revenge for beating him. However, in the anime, they never met before this so it doesn't make any sense. Kaiba also knows Yugi's grandpa has the Blue-Eyes in the manga because of a previous chapter where he steals it from Yugi and Yami challenges him to a duel to get it back. Basically, the anime decided to ignore everything that happened before that point which caused a ton of plotholes.
I’m fine with kaiba being at school. I’m more so pointing fun at Tristian’s comment. He literally asks such a silly question. If he’s willing to go to school why would a card shop be different
@NitPik-n1e I'm not 100% sure but I think Tristan's comment was only in the dub. But if it isn't, I'm guessing Tristan was never interested in Duel Monsters and just never bothered to learn about it. His mind forgot about it because to him it was just another game he wasn't interested in. If I'm being honest though, the first episode is the worst one in my opinion, especially in the dub. 4Kids had no idea what they wanted to do with the show back then so on top of their regular incompetence was them having no clue how to dub the first episode. You can hear from the quality of the voice acting that the VAs weren't sure about it either.
I assume 2 turns went by where Yugi just played defense and Saggi was still there. And I assume negative energy only works on a monster with less than 1000 atk
I was thinking the same about negative energy and looked it up. Remember the Japanese version shows the full effect of every anime card, and turns out the only restriction it has is that it must be a Dark monster. So you could actually get a 7500 atk Dark Magician with this.
2:06 - 2:18 People are more honest with people they know and make up excuses with people they don't, this isn't a plot hole. Grandpa's just lying, or telling a half-truth.
So with the gaslighting himself into not believing in magic, that's actually just the dub. In the sub, Kaiba fully believes. He just really doesn't care. Hell, even the dub portrays it more as him trying to convince himself rather than him actually not believing. Like in the Ishizu duel where he knows full well magic is being used to cheat, otherwise he'd disqualify her(We see that when magic isn't being used elsewhere in that tournament and someone is cheating, there are rules that... Mokuba for some reason has to enforce to disqualify people.)
@@NitPik-p3r I mean, he's not just gonna ignore when some crazy magic occurs in front of him regardless. It's more that he doesn't care in that he's not gonna do anything about it. As opposed to the dub where he just keeps saying everything is smoke and mirrors.
@NitPik-n1e yeah that is strange. But I think that comes with Yugioh not seeming like the confident type. But all of a sudden gives Kaiba the thousand yard stare. In Kaiba mind is he on top Yugioh should be quivering but he ain't. At least my understanding. Been awhile since saw ep 1.
We talking about the same guy who's seen his brother turned into a card, had his mind be read, seen brainwashing, seen visions of the distant past, and still refuses to believe in such things as magic. Kaiba is consistent if nothing else. Also, gotta love TV laws preventing the show from actually putting the effects onto the cards in English. Saved the producers trouble though.
While most of Duelist Kingdom is able to survive unscathed, pretty much anything to do with Kaiba, Bakura, or Shadi is put on fast forward and made all the more awkward by the exclusion of the early arc of the manga.
Kaiba barely attended class he went in whenever he wanted before the first mind crush. The reason all of this is weird is because this technically continues from season 0. So the evil is just the remnants of it still there. Also this is funny keep it up!
Negative Energy only works on weak Dark-type monsters. Yami commenting that Kaiba understands every aspect is a comment on how Kaiba knows how to combine cards that work together and time it perfectly. Kaiba presumably held onto Negative Energy card until he drew Saggi.
there's actually a pretty good reason why any character in early yu-gi-oh wouldn't know about duel monsters: it was '90s japan, and tcgs were not popular in the slightest. in the manga, duel monsters was initially a parody of magic the gathering, and was stated to be huge overseas, but with just a small following in japan, just like magic had at the time. though the real reason this odity exists, the anime was basically combining two different manga plots, one that involved the introduction of yu-gi-oh, and one after it had already become popular at the school, so it creates a weird paradox where the game is both extremely niche yet massively popular.
this merging also affects the characters. they simultaneously know everything about each other and yet act like they've never met, and some actions just don't have the proper motivation.
the 1st episode is just a pretty bad retelling of the Death-T Arc from season zero. In that arc Yugi and friends had to play many different games and the last game was against Kaiba playing duel Monsters. Also every single game was broadcasted on tv so yeah it made sense that pegasus would figure that out but I guess they completely forgot to mention it which is not just a dub thing but also in the sub they just never mentioned it.
4:10 Atem is physically identical to Yugi in universe. The only visual differences are for the audience only. Kaiba is not reacting to an actual physical change, but to the aura that atem gives off as a much more strong and confident player
2:42 I bet there are a bunch of missed calls from Kaiba, who has been calling every couple of minutes to get that dramatic timing while Grandpa lays on the ground.
My headcannon as to why Kaiba wanted to duel Yugi was because Solomon presumably pissed off Kaiba with "heart of the card" speeches and to be petty, Kaiba threatened to beat Yugi too.
I wish this episode touched upon how Kaiba dueled Solomon not Yuugi first because he’s afraid of Yami being an actual Murderer across the manga to this point, in fact this took place after the time Bakura STABBED HIMSELF IN THE HAND OVER A DND GAME HE GOT POSSESSED DURING! Lmao Yugioh goes hard for no reason sometimes
So just going over one of the nit picks. I have an extremely rare original and in mint condition Octopath Traveler deluxe edition box with all the goodies. On top of another one I bought that I received in really poor position. The really nice mint condition one was one my friend gave me. There aren't many of these, they run really high online. My friend was so nice to give me her better condition one. If someone started like... tossing it up or down, I'd probably bring up how hard it is to even have the box in that condition first rather than bring up its immediate sentimental value. I'd bring that up once everyone calmed down. Since I imagine I'll get more of a response if the person knows how valuable the thing is. I think this would be extra true if I barely knew them. Like if a guy off the street knew it was rare, versus if he knew my friend gave it to me. I don't actually see that as a plot hole. That actually seems inline with exactly how I'd defend my thing in a similar situation.
Sure. But in your example you’re valuing its rarity. If a close friend gave me “vose raider” - which is a real example. I wouldn’t really mind someone “handling it”
@@NitPik-p3r I'm not valuing its rarity. I care about it because it has sentimental value. I'm telling you not to manhandle it because it's rare. Again, I'm assuming you don't know me or care about my feelings.
So him not setting the Exodia pieces also makes... slightly more sense in the Japanese version. As the cards have their original text on them. Including the whole "if you break the seal, yada yada yada." It doesn't say anything definitive, obviously, but it at least was the same mentality of "oh. Maybe it does something" that you'd see on the playground, mixed with the fact that he's all focused on strategies and stuff (even when there are none) that he just assumes these do nothing cards mean nothing. Also he seems to value just playing the strongest trash in his hand rather than fodder off something. He's very much hoping these big numbers will pay off at some point and let him do a little more.
Kaiba called Yugi's Winged Dragon card a good move because most monsters have like under 1000 ATK. Good cards are 1200-1500, and boss monsters are like 2000+ And then Blue-Eyes White Dragon is legendary.
I think it's funny how a lot of this stems from this being an adaption that just skips over almost 60 chapters of the Manga it's adapting. Like in the manga, Kaiba has a reason to care because this isn't their first duel etc etc
Something I just found out by checking the wiki. Negative Energy only doubles the ATK of all face-up Dark monsters. Uh, why was it tripled here? Also, I blame 4Kids for skipping turns to cut for time...
What me always bothers is that in german exodia is female and hearing kaiba refer to exodia as him sounds weird to me even tho i know that exodia suppose to be male
@@NitPik-p3r my point was that while I understand the confusion, it wasn't all in a single turn that he summoned two. I agree that they should have done it a bit better, but even the monolog itself suggests that a couple turns, or at least one considering their reactions to certain moves throughout the season, has passed.
What I'm about to say is not an excuse, but simply an explanation for how things turned out. Everything behind the development of what we currently know as the Classic Yugioh Anime(titles may vary depending from fan to fan) is incredibly context dependent, and decisions regarding that context had many trickle-down effects for the plot. The issue with the Classic Yugioh Anime is that it doesn't exist in a vacuum. Prior to it, there was already a Yugioh Anime that fans have dubbed "Season 0". This is where some speculation comes into play, but not unfounded speculation. What we know for a fact is that the people behind the Classic Yugioh Anime had nothing to do with the development of Season 0(though this could clearly be seen what with the drastic differences in artstyle). The people behind the (then) new Yugioh Anime decided they didn't want to tie the anime they were working on to a property they had nothing to do with, possibly in an effort to not alienate any newer audiences. At the same time, they couldn't just re-tread what Season 0 covered, that's an entire season, and that would alienate any pre-existing fans. So they took a bandaid solution and speedran the developments of Season 0 so older fans could tell what was going on and newer fans could uh... I guess have an idea of how things got started? Unfortunately this came with _many_ issues. First and foremost, we lost a lot of context behind those developments due to the sloppy way they tried to transition people into the show. Beyond that, they also failed to _show_ some of the developments in action, so we also lose what the current underlying motivations of some of the characters are. An example of this is Kaiba who had already known that Yugi's family owned a Blue-Eyes White Dragon. In fact, iirc it's part of the reason he did a ton of inhumane things to obtain the three he currently has(information we also lost). On top of that, Kaiba created holograms because he witnessed Yami Yugi's magic brining the monsters to life, and then lost to Yugi. Beyond that, we also flat out lost the backstories behind some key characters that were given to us in the Manga/Season 0. Kaiba is once again affected here, and that backstory would have given us an insight to what motivates Kaiba to do what he does throughout the entirety of the show up until the end of Battle City. They once again tried to do another bandaid fix by introducing that backstory into the Virtual World Filler Arc late into the Battle City Arc, in a strange amalgamation of canon material and filler material. You can imagine how well that went over with audiences who have no idea about the context behind that arc. Hell, I'm not sure people _with_ context are fans of how they decided to handle it. Notice how I'm only listing Kaiba's name here, that's because I can currently only remember the information regarding Kaiba, but I only vaguely remember that this trickle-down effect affects a few other characters too. EDIT: If this felt extremely messy to read, my laptop's battery died without warning right when I was going to send the original rendition that I already spent quite a bit of time typing up, so I'm re-writing this down from my pretty messy short-term memory. Sorry about that.
Yeah all these plot holes are covered in the manga and in season 0. I wish these idiots would have never taken it over from the guys who did season 0 Duel monsters isn’t popular in season 0 so it makes sense the others have to learn it from Yugi. Kaiba is going around transferring to different schools in order to steal rare cards from different kids. Kaiba steals the blue eyes. When yugi’s friends confront him his goons beat them. Yugi turns into the pharaoh to take the card back and get justice for his friends. Later in the season finale Kaiba does kidnap his grandpa, but it’s after Yugi already proved himself to be someone Kaiba can’t beat - no, needs to beat in a children’s card game. So he has the motivation to actually summon Yugi. Kaiba does notice Yugi is different when he duels in season 0. But everyone including Yugi and the pharaoh are convinced that it’s just his alter ego, his Id. Also his first duel with Kaiba is a draw, then the whole season has Kaiba making Yugi fight an elite four of gamers. Once they’re all down then we go into kidnapping grandpa and the unstoppable exodia reveal.
I would have preferred a manga analysis, but that was still a nice perspective. I like that you don't look into animation errors and other cheap shots and instead focus on the characters and plot. I wonder if the line about the holographic monsters is in the manga due to Yami being the first to do so with magic.
Thanks dude! I don’t like the videos that take cheap shots. Feels lazy and mean spirited. I don’t think he does - didn’t he lose his memories in the manga too? Or no?
@NitPik-n1e I am not sure about his memory. I think the anime changed some important details. I am glad you agree with me about those cheap shots. I mean, who cares if Yugi's hair looks slightly different between shots?
It will never not bother me how yugi won this duel. He didn't find a clever strategy, he got lucky and drew the I win card. This duel displays yugi for exactly what he is, a terrible duelist put on a pedestal for getting lucky draws. Sure, kaiba gets lucky draws too, but he goes into duels with an actual strategy and plan, making it feel less forced
Hey NitPik at 4:13 in the video the animators did the same thing with mokuba when yugi dueled him and it made him look like he could see them switch just like kaiba
The thing that’s funny about this is ALL of your plot issues are because they rushed to adapt a full arc in the manga into Episode 1. Kaiba’s at their school? Well in Season 0 he transferred there as he’s been transferring around all kinds of schools trying to find the Blue-Eyes White Dragons. Yugi’s perfect timing to get that phone call? because in Season 0, that wasn’t needed at all - because Yugi and friends were invited to the opening of Kaibaland and to take part in an opening day event where they all had to play in faux Death games. Yugi’s irritation at Kaiba making the hologram monsters? because Kaiba took the idea from a Shadow Game he played with Yugi previously. How Pegasus learns of the duel results? Well in Season 0 the duel was very public as it was the ultimate end of the “Death T” arc and the opening of Kaibaland with it being broadcast across Japan. Why Kaiba is being more taunting and sadistic? because in Season 0 this is a grudge match where Kaiba wants revenge for drawing against Yugi before. Even not helping his Grandpa - In Season 0 when that happened they were in the middle of a set of Death Matches, so they couldn’t just leave. It really is interesting how well they condensed this down but at the same time it actually makes more sense if you knew Season 0 or the original Manga
4:58 Um, actually... Negative Energy Generator only boosts the attack of "DARK" Attribute Monsters by x3. Because I don't think an "EARTH" attribute monster like Celtic Guardian would be compatible with that card.
Lol stop. haha. Sure it might just be dark. And hey it might only be for dark spellcasters. The point of the callout was simply that a multiplication boost in an of itself is insane. later we see joey with the dice being able to multiply up to 6. If you can multiply like that. The idea of attack points becomes ridiculous. Like powerlevels in DBZ
@@NitPik-p3r oh that is true thoe it should be noted kaiba does not exactly care about his wealth at this point he is not building blue eyes jeyes and such at this point he likely just attends school because he has to until he is old enough to leave so just attentds the closests
@NitPik-n1e If I recall it's revealed when Kaiba duels Pegasus. Pegasus uses a card to boost Saggi's Atk above the threshold for the Dark Energy equip.
I'm *slightly* confused with your criteria. This isnt necessarily the first time Kaiba and Yugi have dueled. This is a wildly abridged version of the Death-T arc from season zero, which only happened because Yugi beat Kaiba in the first place. Normally itd just be a ho-hum but you mention Season Zero in future episodes (UA-cam autoplay gave me episode 2 first). Unless we arent counting season zero as canon or whatever.
@NitPik-n1e Yeah, that's true. The japanese voice actor for Kaiba is considered pretty big himself in Japan from what I hear. The problem with this episode is that they are trying to adapt 20 almost unrelated manga chapters from the season 0 era into a single episode. Kaiba was like a supervillian in the manga, and he set up an amusement park full of traps for Yugi and friends before that exodia duel. It made a lot more sense in the manga. The reason he was at the school was because, in his first appearance, his backstory hadn't been fully written yet. He was just another evil bully at that time.
Both are alive in the manga they just don’t show up much since they aren’t that important to what’s going on like a lot of the other characters parents. Pretty sure anime says the same thing at some point but in the manga Joey lives with their dad and serenity lives with their mom.

@NitPik-n1e Pegasus was still hunting the other millennium items so I feel he would've found Yugi later on
So I should point out that many of these problems are
1. Something the 4kids dub is to blame for
Not to mention the literal dead men behind Atem, like the LONG list of them
I love that someone's doing this, without overly focusing on the card effects but on the other aspects of the show that are inconsistent!
Loved this so much I binged/ marathoned the videos you did to Episode 5 and even the comments video!

Of course!! Thanks!! 🙏
I recomand reading the Manga. Things make way more sense there
Oh 100%.
Yeah and then Yami sends him into a coma.
They had a first series, assumed everyone saw it, created the second series with a nonsensical filler opening, then
RUSHED all of the scenes covered from the first series just so they could get to the new content.
Kaiba would lose whatever sanity he had if he saw the real world number of BEWD centric decks.
Also his waifu, Kisara, as a card (Maiden with Eyes of Blue and Maiden of White)
"There goes your favourite monster Yugi!"
Ummm, how did he know that? Yugi never said it!
Yo! Great call out!
Hi. Some issues with your points:
Exactly! This guy gets it.
Or how quick-play spells work
Yugi: "This card's useless..."
Also Yugi: "My grandpa's deck HAS no pathetic cards, Kaiba!"
At first I thought this would be a copy and paste of all the other videos of this format that came before but you actually do have thoughts that I haven't heard before. Gotta subscribe now
Thanks!! If you liked that one. I’ve got episodes 2 and 3 up. And 4+5 will go live in a few hours
Hounestly you put your arguments out quite Well, it becomes an intertaintment in its own way, i would stick around if you do more of this.
Im in! Lets do it!
@@NitPik-p3r you got it! Let’s do this!
Question are you continuing becausei wrote this, or were you always op fore it?
@@lassegrotkjr6326 Both! I wanted todo it anyway, but comments like this are always super encouraging, because you never know how people will react.
This is like Overanalyzing Avatar but Yu GI Oh. And I'm all for it.
He certainly looks like he cares at least a little bit. But I’m looking at the dub here
@@NitPik-p3r I mean, he's not just gonna ignore when some crazy magic occurs in front of him regardless. It's more that he doesn't care in that he's not gonna do anything about it.
As opposed to the dub where he just keeps saying everything is smoke and mirrors.
2:42 "hello and welcome to your new summer job at the new and improved Freddy Fazbear's Pizza." 🍕🐻👷
The change is just for the audience. I think in canon they still see Yugi but just being more confident.
Yeah that seems to be the consensus but Kaiba DOES react in the first episode which always threw me off.
For Pot of Greed to Draw them 3 cards, they'd need to running Avatar of the Pot!
While most of Duelist Kingdom is able to survive unscathed, pretty much anything to do with Kaiba, Bakura, or Shadi is put on fast forward and made all the more awkward by the exclusion of the early arc of the manga.
you should really use the japanese version for this as the dub creates ALOT of plot holes
I might do both the dub and the sub separately. Im in love with the dub because the voice acting for me is super iconic, and beautiful.
@@NitPik-p3r oh i cana gree with that just pointing out that when it comes to plot holes
4kids create ALOT of them
Kaiba barely attended class he went in whenever he wanted before the first mind crush. The reason all of this is weird is because this technically continues from season 0. So the evil is just the remnants of it still there. Also this is funny keep it up!
Thanks!
Negative Energy only works on weak Dark-type monsters.
Yami commenting that Kaiba understands every aspect is a comment on how Kaiba knows how to combine cards that work together and time it perfectly. Kaiba presumably held onto Negative Energy card until he drew Saggi.
7:15 I felt the same way for years! 🙃
Seen this episode a lot. You're pointing out stuff I never questioned. Lol
Double comment: your right, Kaiba didn’t know Yuugi arrived, in fact the manga says that he’d been calling the shop all night waiting for Yuugi
The reason Pegasus learns about it is because (say it with me) In the manga, the duel takes place in a theme park so everyone can watch it publicly.
I think Kaiba's duels are recorded because he's a Champion. He doesn't bother turning it off, but since he lost to Yugi, Pegasus got an alert.
Also after this episode we never see Kiaba at the school or any sign he ever did or has the uniform
there's actually a pretty good reason why any character in early yu-gi-oh wouldn't know about duel monsters: it was '90s japan, and tcgs were not popular in the slightest.
in the manga, duel monsters was initially a parody of magic the gathering, and was stated to be huge overseas, but with just a small following in japan, just like magic had at the time.
though the real reason this odity exists, the anime was basically combining two different manga plots, one that involved the introduction of yu-gi-oh, and one after it had already become popular at the school, so it creates a weird paradox where the game is both extremely niche yet massively popular.
this merging also affects the characters. they simultaneously know everything about each other and yet act like they've never met, and some actions just don't have the proper motivation.
the 1st episode is just a pretty bad retelling of the Death-T Arc from season zero.
Hahaha. 100%
My headcannon as to why Kaiba wanted to duel Yugi was because Solomon presumably pissed off Kaiba with "heart of the card" speeches and to be petty, Kaiba threatened to beat Yugi too.
That’s entirely possible
I wish this episode touched upon how Kaiba dueled Solomon not Yuugi first because he’s afraid of Yami being an actual Murderer across the manga to this point, in fact this took place after the time Bakura STABBED HIMSELF IN THE HAND OVER A DND GAME HE GOT POSSESSED DURING! Lmao Yugioh goes hard for no reason sometimes
Dude, this was hilarious! Thank you! 👍
So glad you liked it!
Also, all the evil things that the characters did over a children's card game(ie sending ppl to the shadowrealm/kidnapping Grampa)...
Hahahah "gaslight himself" 😂

Good cards are 1200-1500, and boss monsters are like 2000+
And then Blue-Eyes White Dragon is legendary.
Yeah but it’s still hilarious to get a small head nod from Kaiba for summoning a single monster
Ahh interesting. Also all dark monsters? Damn!
Kaiba used Negative Energy Generator, Pegasus is the one who used Negative Energy.
First Ace Trainer Liam and now NitPik ruining my childhood. What a time to be alive
Sorry dude. Gotta be done
What me always bothers is that in german exodia is female and hearing kaiba refer to exodia as him sounds weird to me even tho i know that exodia suppose to be male
Oh wow! I didnt know that! Thats like the whole Lugia being male for english, but intended to be a woman
If you paid attention, they showed a few turns going by with Blue-Eyes White Dragon destroying monster after monster.
sure, but its all shown under a single monologue. It feels less like monsters are being destroyed and more like visuals accompanying the monolouge
@@NitPik-p3r my point was that while I understand the confusion, it wasn't all in a single turn that he summoned two. I agree that they should have done it a bit better, but even the monolog itself suggests that a couple turns, or at least one considering their reactions to certain moves throughout the season, has passed.
@@mikebottomlesspitdunham2954 Yeah thats fair

I wish these idiots would have never taken it over from the guys who did season 0
Duel monsters isn’t popular in season 0 so it makes sense the others have to learn it from Yugi.
On gawd I always use to think that bout Kabia goin to school wit them even as a kid lol
I would have preferred a manga analysis, but that was still a nice perspective.
I like that you don't look into animation errors and other cheap shots and instead focus on the characters and plot.
I wonder if the line about the holographic monsters is in the manga due to Yami being the first to do so with magic.

I don’t think he does - didn’t he lose his memories in the manga too? Or no?

At 6:18, the reason why Kaiba can screw the rules is because he's rich and has money
Pls make more of this
It will never not bother me how yugi won this duel.
The game here really was the time limit more so than the game itself
I'm guessing that Negative Energy like Crush card virus would only work on monsters with 1000 attack

6:20 Screw the Logic he has money
Some of those are just english dub thing. You should do this with the original japanese anime.

I'm *slightly* confused with your criteria. This isnt necessarily the first time Kaiba and Yugi have dueled. This is a wildly abridged version of the Death-T arc from season zero, which only happened because Yugi beat Kaiba in the first place. Yeah maybe on a second take - I love the voices tho. Eric Stuart and Dan Green are amazing
