Their throat singing has a deep spiritual significance in not just ancient Mongolian culture, but many cultures around the world. Some of the earliest exposure English scholars had to throat singing was when the old Norse began raiding western Europe. When they began studying Norse culture, they took note that they "sang like dogs", and they thought it was very strange that they sang like dogs, which was later named "throat singing". There are differences between all the forms of throat singing from around the world, but what remains the same is its significance not just to their respective ancient music, but to their spiritual and religious aspects of their culture. the most common theme is that it positively affects the soul, whether that's cleansing it, soothing it, or just simply focusing it (it's different for every culture). As a Dane myself, and more specifically a practicing Forn Sidr/Asatru (go ahead with the hate comments for admitting that one, trust me I've heard it all before), I have studied applications of throat singing throughout history, both ancient and modern. This band in particular seems to use it for less of its deep understanding of its true significance and more for its undeniable entertainment value. There's nothing wrong with that since it's not sacred or anything like that, it's just a harmless observation. Needless to say though, The HU is probably my favorite band. They're not just good musicians, they're great people as well.
The song is integrated into the game in two ways. First, Cal is listening to it on headphones while he's working in the opening scene. Then, partway through the story, you get captured and have to fight in some gladiator matches, where it comes up again, being played over the loudspeakers and Cal comments that it's a favorite song of his.
Yeah the game system doesn't work that way. So unless you played up to that part and then completely started over on a new save to finish the game, neither of you have that. If you both did do that, fuckin why? Never heard of "let's play"!? complete waste of time. That entire boss fight is easy on the hardest setting, that whole set piece is a time filler and a narrative excuse to populate previously empty areas with mini bosses for when/if you go back for collectibles. The ONLY notable thing about that section of the game is the music, so I HIGHLY doubt either of you actually did this, however if you actually did, you both wasted at least 10 hours of your lifes. Just Sayin..
@Christopher King just have to export a save and it's done -_-' And no it's not a complete waist of time. I don't know for William, but me I love PLAYING this moment, not just watching it. After, that you don't like this moment, it's your problem. Me, I do. Not for the difficulty (i don't need to feel difficulty to enjoy a game), but for the mood in it. I do that in a lot of game, when I particularly enjoy a moment and like to play it without having to do all the way to it again (hi RPGs, mostly)
The Great Chinggis Khaan is my personal favorite song from The Hu, though I glaldy listen to everything they have released. As an athlete, their debut album, The Gereg, is my go-to listen before a race or other competition. Their music ranges from a more folk-oriented and calming nature (songs like Shireg Shireg, album version of Song of Women) to a "let's conquer most of Asia and Eastern Europe" nature (songs like Wolf Totem, The Great Chinggis Khaan). 47:42 of music to get myself both relaxed and hyped up, and for some reason it works like a charm every time.
The creativity of the HU Band is Outstanding. All of their Music has an elements of Traditional Mongolian Culture to Epic High Energy Vibes which seems to effect me personally each and every time I listen. @@MattFarkas not just made by EA though as The Hu seemed to have had a say in it as well. But yeeah made for the game and hopefully we'll hear more from them in other star wars related things.
I believe it actually is Mongolian-based, but with twists and variations incorporated specifically for the game. As opposed to the original song (Black Thunder) on which this is based.
Thank you for the reaction video. Have you heard their very first released song: Yuve yuve yu? Song of women featuring Lzzy Hale is also there, not that much of a metal song but has an extraordinary amount of energy in it
Thanks again for a great review. If you want to learn more about the band and learn how star wars happened watch "The Road to the Gereg". A great one to watch for live is their first U.S. date "black Thunder" at The Rave in Milwaukee. Anyway peace, love and happiness to you, your family and friends.
Can only agree, this one is great. I like every song from them so far, though some stands out above the rest and of those, Sugaan Essena has eventually become my favorite, was the original Wolf totem at first for me. If you want to react to more of the Hu I'd recomand going for "This is The Mongol" from the mongolian Nadam festival/national day or what it was called. Alternatively you could try reacting to one of their songs that has no video of it's own and so has only reactions as part of reactions to the entire album.
