- This is a demo of a Kawai made Kent from the late 1960s. This is the 12-String Model 745. Most earlier Kents were made by Guyatone, but Kawai seems to have made all of these late 60s Kents with these pickups. There were several models in this series, including the 740, 741, and 742 solid bodies, and models 820, 821, 822, and 823 hollowbodies. They made a 743 model bass in this series and even made an electric solidbody mandolin, the model 744! There was also a line of violin shaped bodies.
From looking at the thumbnail it looked like a broach of a miniature guitar. But wow, its a full size old 60s Kent. Right off, the sound takes you back to that 60s guitar sound. The Pink Floyd noodlings was cool, and ya, gotta play some Byrds with it.Listen Mom, I`m Roger McGuire!! lol Very cool.
Not to be special, it's McGuinn.
nice! I have the 6 string version of this guitar (same color and everything) It is fast becoming my favorite guitar I have ever played shows with and I have used a bunch of them. Cool video.
+GoldenDeathMusic The cool thing about the 12-stringer is, if you don't mind the slightly wider neck, you can omit the extra strings and play this as a 6-string too with a slight tweak in setup. I love these guitars. Very well made. Thanks for sharing your experience!
sounds amazing
coolest... sounds amazing
I have a 740 in white (now cream) and it's a fantastic guitar. Definitely well made. It's deceptively large though. haha.
Hey, great demo. I just picked one of these up off of reverb.com and you're right, it's a really nice guitar. A few issues I have to sort out though... is the truss rod in these supposed to be adjustable? Because if so mine is frozen solid.
The truss should be adjustable.
The Guitologist that’s what i thought. Wish me luck!
Appreciate it... if I can achieve some of my dreams would like some alternatives to Ricks for 12 string sounds... Something that isn't hard wired to everyone's synapses to provide different moods and ambient qualities... with all due respect and veneration of those classic sound pallets...
RIP my ears
I have recently aquired a Kent model 670 las vegas that wasnt well described by the seller and after a few messages i got away with it for about $120. its got a few issues. someone superglued the high e nut groove and it sits higher then the rest of the strings and the big rectangle pickups sit so high off the body the strings touch them after the 12th fret. ill note its got 9s so the buzzing is partly due to that. but when i loosen the screws by the pickups. i notice they wont lower. i wanna give it a little touch up since its in 75% playability and has hope as the neck is straight on it. what woyuld you reccomend i do with the poor nit repair and pickup height? will i have to go inside the pickup cavity to lower them? i linked a picture of the guitar i have. the picture isnt mine but you can see what pickups im working with.

I'm familiar with the model. Guyatone made. Those pickups should lower. Maybe you're turning the screw the wrong way, or maybe the pickup is sitting on something underneath it that should not be there. Change strings on it and while the strings are off, remove the pickguard and see what's going on under there. If the pickups won't lower any more, you'll need to shim the neck to pitch it back a little to clear the pickups. As for the High E problem, you're going to need a nut file. Here's a cheap nut file set for like $6: amzn.to/2kQOcBL
The Guitologist thank you!
