    Probably one of the most iconic guitars ever, the thing reeks with 60s vibe and it's song writing abilities are endless in the right hands. A sound found nowhere else but Rickie12 from 1967, I want one.

    Love the sound of a Rickenbacker. Every time I hear one I immediately think of the Beatles and Tom Petty too.

    Those 12 string Ricks sound so fine, even just by themselves into a clean sounding amp. Their sparkly jangle comes even more alive with things like Direct Injection, Compression, Clarity Enhancers, & Digital Amp Modeling. Certain players can really make a 12 string electric shine!

    This best sounding Rickenbacker and String-Guitar I´ve ever heart on camera sound!

  • @larrygeetar9309

    The unique sound of the Rick 12 is not only the toaster pickups or body design or
    lacquered rosewood board. The biggest difference between Ricks and any other 12
    (including acoustics) is this: on strings 3-4-5-6, the octave string is BEHIND the regular
    pitched string, not IN FRONT OF it. This gives a totally different sound and attack. It really
    is what makes a Rick, a Rick. They're the best and most distinctive sounding 12's ever.

    • @Beringtunes
      @Beringtunes 7 років тому +2

      All very true. The "Rickenbacker sound" is also partially created by a hi-pass cap in circuit with each pickup, not the same as the tone cap. This is also true of the basses. One may switch that out (you would NOT want to disconnect it permanently... add a switch to do it!) to create a little fatter sound, and it adds greater variety to the possible sounds. Especially useful on the 4001 bass, but nice on the 360-12 as well. (I have both - a '66 360-12 that looks exactly like this one in the video, and have done that on both. It's a great option at times.) It definitely makes the bass "thumpier," a bit more Fender-like... useful in sessions, where a producer may ask, "Can you make it less "Rickenbacker-y?" They DO have a unique sound. The newer 4003 realizes that option... actually to ADD that cap to the treble pickup, to "recreate the vintage sound." It works well on any Ric.

    • @kcd2120

      @@crapadopaleseYou could but would need a new nut as the slot widths would be wrong if you reversed the order of the octave pairs.

      @@GeoffreyGentryMusic When you show a 12-string Ric and go on and on about Tom Petty with no mention of Roger McGuinn or the Beatles, it shows a certain level of shallow. Tom Petty would have been the first one to salute his influences.

    That's Beautiful Mark; excellent playing of a class instrument, with tunes by an American Icon! Rest In Peace Tom Petty; all the great ones leave us: Roy & George. Mike from Masterton, NewZealand here; I'm a huge Tom Petty/ John Lennon/ Rickenbacker/ Vox/ Norm's Rare Guitars fan! I currently own a Ric 350v63 in Jetglo & am a waiting patiently for a Ric 381/12v69 Fireglo from Rickenbacker; 9 to 18 months. I want to purchase something really cool from You Guys one day, when I've saved enough conkers!

    After watching this, I'm definitely going to post a video on how to play a modern version of Eight Miles High. What do I mean? Less noodling more design logic: start with E Dorian all the way up and down the bottom three strings, with the top three as drones (that's the first trick). Second trick, something Roger McGuinn learned as banjo player: never strike the same string twice. After that I"m going from E Dorian to Schonberg madness and back. Mark if you can beat me to it, have fun!
