    Hi there...I can’t quite see from the video - are the fascias vertical to the ground or slightly angled (i.e. perpendicular to the running of the joists). Similarly, are the soffit boards parallel to the ground or parallel to the joists?

    • @solway17carlisle
      @solway17carlisle  2 роки тому

      Hi - I believe I kept everything at right angles ie used a set square to draw a 90 degree angle then cut the joists. This means the fascia leans back a little at the front but hardly noticeable. When you fit the plastic fascias these are also cut at 90 degrees and there is an end corner plastic profile which covers everything up. The soffits just nail onto the underside of the joists. I hope that explains it. Let me know again if it’s not clear and I’ll do my best to respond. Cheers

    Hi...Great videos. Where did you source your soffits and fascias from? I'm looking for a vented soffit but concerned the ones I've found have the slots too close to the edge and will get covered by the fascia overlap.

      Hi Joey - Thanks for your comment…just do it in stages and most of the work is possible on your own, though I did get help with putting the plaster board on the ceiling. All the best 👍

      At the front: www.fasciaexpert.co.uk/fascias-soffits/black-fascias-and-soffits/black-vented-soffit-board
      At the rear I just used little round soffit vents like these:

    Thank you very much for this video just cleared a lot of things up for me. I'm putting soffits and cap over fascia on tomorrow and need to extend my 4 x 2 with a 2 x 2 section to enable me to fit the fascia and EPDM trim so the poly pins will not get in the way. Saved me a lot of head scratching tomorrow. Thank you Colin

    Thanks for the videos, looking at starting my hideout soon, where did you get the EDPM from and was it a full kit or did you have to order the separate parts?

      Hi - there’s plenty of Epdm roofing suppliers online. I got all the kit I needed from Rubber4roofs. Good luck with your build...

    That's looking great. What make and size facia board did you use please? I am building similar and am looking for a facia to cap 6x2 rafters covered with 18mm OSB roof deck and 9-10mm soffits and hopefully have a flush fit at the top as you have achieved without needing to trim them. A lot of the facias I have seen are an external measurement of 175mm so would come up short or the 200mm would need trimming. Thanks and hope the garden room is working well for you.

    • @solway17carlisle
      @solway17carlisle  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Ian - I used an online company called Fascia Expert. I used 175mm cap over fascia with 9mm thick vented soffit board, depth to suit the over hang of my roof (200mm in my case). The cap over fascia is measured internally down to the bend if you can visualise that...bear in mind that the top part of your fascia will also be covered by your epdm roofing trim when you get to that stage, so it doesnt matter if your fascia panel is a little bit short.
      if you add depth of OSB, 6x2, soffit that is:18+145+9=172mm, so the 175mm cap over fascia fits ok
      Hope that your build goes well...ATB Andrew

      Hi Andrew. Many thanks for the info. It answers my question perfectly. I was looking at Facia Expert too but there was some contradictory info on the how the 175mm was measured but you’ve solved that for me now. Time to get ordering! Thanks again.

    Great videos!
    Could i ask a quick Q RE the 2.5m height: do you include the overhang at the front, or just the height above the walls?
    Sorry if this info is elsewhere: but whatre the dimensions of your shed?

    • @solway17carlisle
      @solway17carlisle  2 роки тому

      Hi Jonathan- yes, you have to include the roof in the height ie overall structure from ground to top within 2.5m
      My garden room is a 3mx4mx2.5m structure, though the walls slightly longer coming in at 4.1m x 3.06m. BUT at the highest point in ground level my roof line comes in a smidge below the require 2.5m height dimension. Hope that helps…

    • @jonathanpearson1749
      @jonathanpearson1749 2 роки тому

      @@solway17carlisle thanks. I was mainly wondering about the overhanging part of the roof that isn't immediately above the wall structure? Does that also have to be less than 2.5?

    • @solway17carlisle
      @solway17carlisle  2 роки тому

      Hi - yes, from the top front edge of the roof where the edpm edge profile is nailed onto the top of the fascia….all the way to the ground. Must be no more than 2.5m. Please get back to me if I misunderstood…Regards

      Ha ha - that epdm is heavy and it was hot work that day on the roof. Glad though to have it waterproof now. Thanks for watching 👍

    Do you need a vented soffit on a warm roof or just a plain soffit ps looks fantastic

    • @solway17carlisle
      @solway17carlisle  3 роки тому

      shane Proctor Hi Shane - mine is a 'cold' flat roof with the celotex insulation immediately above the plasterboard, then a gap to the roof deck - ideally 50mm. This gap must allow a cross flow of air ventilation so soffits are needed front and rear of the building. I didn't have enough height allowance to build a warm roof. From what I understand you wouldn't need to ventilate this type of roof as the void above the plasterboard is at or near the temperature inside the room. Make sure your wall insulation goes right up to the underside of the roof deck to avoid cold bridging between the wall and ceiling. Have a 'google' for 'garden room warm roof construction' I hope this helps, all the best

    Hi, can I ask, what colour soffits and fascias did you get and do they match the kerb trims that come with the rubber roof kit? Thanks again advance.

      Hi - just straightforward ‘black’ soffits and the roofing trim is also black. Looks good…

      Thanks again for the reply. Where did you order the rubber roof kit from and do you need to add the overhang into the measurement?
      Where did you order the soffits and fascias from please, would be helpful as I'm only down the road. Thanks again in advance. 😉

      Once you know your roof deck measurements ie length and width you can order online or source local suppliers. For the Epdm I used ‘Rubber4roofs’ - you just put in your measurements above and they calculate how much overhang to supply. They also supply the glues and trims etc as part of a package. For the fascia and soffit I used ‘Fasciaexpert’ though there are local suppliers in Carlisle eg SBS on Durranhill. Hope that helps you…All the best with your build
