    I lived this with my mother. She had Amyloid Angiopathy (Alzheimer's) and passed away in 2016. My siblings and I took care of her for 2 /1/2 years with this debilitating disease and she lost all functions. I was shocked to see pieces of her temporal lobes and frontal lobe missing on the brain scan. I will be sharing this video with my siblings. When my mom stopped walking her 3 miles a day she started declining rapidly!

    This is really helpful, I’m 23 and sometimes have a hard time remembering both short termed long term info due to my anxiety/panic disorder. I never thought anxiety could effect me this way, but among other things such as my breathing patterns, it has! I have started exercise and a very low dose of setraline for anxiety + depression and it has helped so far! while I don’t believe I have dementia, I’m taking a bigger initiative into preserving my memory and I feel lucky to understand how important memory is to me at a younger age. another question: what exercise can a 90 year old woman do, who cannot walk alone anymore, and can hardly move otherwise, needs 24 carers, but has just recently started to get sometimes confused? It seems to me unreasonable, to expect her to exercise at all, as she is of course not able to do that at all. Does that mean she HAS TO decline in brin function from now on?

      There is limited scientific evidence to support the use of Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of dementia. While some proponents of Ayurveda suggest that certain herbs and dietary changes can help improve cognitive function and reduce symptoms, the efficacy of these treatments has not been well established through rigorous clinical studies. It's important to note that dementia is a complex condition that can have multiple causes, and that the best approach to treatment will depend on the specific case and underlying factors. If you're considering using Ayurvedic medicine for dementia, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional who can provide guidance and help you understand the potential risks and benefits. In any case, it's also important to keep in mind that no complementary or alternative treatment has been shown to cure or reverse the progression of dementia. The best way to manage symptoms and maintain cognitive health is to follow a healthy lifestyle, which includes engaging in regular physical activity, eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and staying socially connected.
      Here ia a scientific article looking at some benefits, of note the authors do write that multi-centered studies are needed to validate these theories and conclusions.

    I wonder if years of extreme grieving causes alzheimer…

    • @ThinkYourHealth
      @ThinkYourHealth  Місяць тому

      Extreme grieving can increase the risk of Alzheimer's dementia by contributing to chronic stress, which elevates cortisol levels and leads to brain inflammation and damage, particularly in memory-related areas like the hippocampus. Grieving can also trigger depression, poor sleep, and social isolation, all of which are known risk factors for cognitive decline. While grieving itself doesn't directly cause Alzheimer's, the associated stress and lifestyle changes can heighten the risk over time.

      Very good comment and question.There is an older study pointing towards potential benefits. I have provided the link here:pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20831681/. Here is another study looking at this question www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5187538/#:~:text=Numerous%20studies%20have%20found%20saffron,and%20have%20less%20adverse%20effects. Of note though saffron and turmeric are treated as the same spice, turmeric is an entirely different plant than saffron. Do think more studies are needed to look at the potential benefits of these spices for dementia, but results anecdotally, the lower incidence of dementia in South East Asia point towards potential benefits in particular that the diet is different to the traditional Western diet which is higher in red meat. Here is another study reaching a similar conclusion saying that more studies are needed:www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5796761/.

      Yes, happens to me as well.I have gone back home 2-3 x to check if I have locked the door LOL. Here is a study that looks at that question: Sugar- and Artificially Sweetened Beverages and the Risks of Incident Stroke and Dementia.If you want to read it I have provided you with the link :www.ahajournals.org/doi/full/10.1161/STROKEAHA.116.016027. There appears to be a link to BOTH stroke and dementia especially with sugar sweetened beverages.The link with artificially sweetened is more observational and not established.However, artificial sweeteners are linked with a higher risk of diabetes. Sweeteners do not increase your blood sugars, but they do IMPAIR your body's ability to process carbohydrates.I hope this helps.

    dear doctor, I have a question about the diet point, which I asked so many times already, but never got an answer for: older people's systems don't absorb the nessecary nutrients from foods anymore (and usually not from supplements either), and the older one gets, the worse this becomes.
    What use is in such a case even the right diet, when not much of it gets aborbed, that is vital for our health. Shouldn't we be told first, what can be done to absorb the nutrients from food and/or supplements, when getting older? Thank you in advance!
