I think a diversity aspect that graduates overlook is class. It is great having ethnic diversity, but if they all come from the same elite public schools how diverse is it really?
@@AfzalHussein Diversity is just a buzzword or window dressing. A company that truly cares about diversity will focus on the merits of the applicants instead of race. Sadly these companies are a few in a dozen.
@@AfzalHussein Do you think Class is a problem for banks as it could potentially deter capable people from applying? If so, what could be done to solve this? If they run programmes that get working class kids in these internships etc, how can they ensure they don't feel uncomfortable whilst they are in there?
Afzal, these reviews of the work environment through a series is very insightful and offers a first-hand glimpse into what life really is like at any firm. This definitely is a good call on your part to undertake reaction videos with supportive feedback on relationships etc. Keep going. thank you!
I thought you had given up on the Industry reviews! I know you are a busy man, but these reviews are great. Absolutely loved the whole series, watched it over and over again a few times. Just a superb production all round.
I want to see more of Rishi. He looks like someone who is really smart and has cemented himself on the trading floor. He is never caught doing something stupid and is a good trader
So glad I only found these videos today, watched the first 5 all in a row wishing I'd spaced them out and then the intro to this one said that there are more coming out soon - perfect timing!
Thank u so much for this series!!! im thinking going into finance industry and i love seeing what u say is right/wrong and what to expect etc... thank u!!
@@AfzalHussein was disappointed with your agreement with the bigot who claimed racial diversity measures are not needed and unfair. Just wish the nuance would be explained bc all the BAME candidates on the show *were the most talented* and the "merit" system doesn't work when the most opportunities for high profile opportunities are silohed for the Wealthy which are overwhelmingly white. I was surprised and disappointed you agreed with the bigot by hearting their comment. Take a look at why Equal Opportunity Employment was created. Why do these top firms have Diversity Programs and who do they recruit (students from rural backgrounds, students from state schools, and high performing applicants who happen to be BAME).
If I was Harper I’d take the check and play ball but I’d tell Eric that if he ever locks me in a room again I’ll knock his fucking teeth out. (He probably would’ve respected her for saying that)
Hello Afzal! I just discovered this series of you commenting Industry and enjoyed it so much. However seeing this makes me question: what is the point of making so much money if you’re stuck in an office for 20 hours a day. I’m a medical doctor and we also work super long hours, my only gratification (apart from the money) was thinking that I enjoyed the work. But after some time the enjoyable moments become less and less frequent. So I just decided to work less, make less, but enjoy more free time. However I understand that investment bankers have less control over their work hours. So how do people do it for 30-40 years?
Yes brother, anything is possible if you truly desire it in your heart. If you're the person to give up after 1 failure then do not bother. It won't be easy, but you can do it. Just research what is required from certain companies, such as education, qualifications, etc. Goodluck
I have never clicked so fast hahahhahaha, you should make another channel for more casual less banking stuff, you have a personality I like so I reckon it would do well.
Mate, love your videos and content in general. Been watching you for the past 2 years (just subbed from my alternate email-id in case Google Analytics tells you otherwise :P ). Just one tiny request, please turn on subtitles when you're streaming the episode. It's hard to understand what the characters are saying cuz it's a recording of a recording so not very clear. Lastly, thanks for all the amazing content.
Bit late to the party here but what would I do if my boss gave me a £50,000 bonus after a few months into my graduate program? Probably a few back flips first and then a victory lap round the office.
Idk if this is your area of expertise, but a video idea could be what financial instruments that are not commonly known but are going to be prevalent in the future
Hey Afzal love all your videos! I was able to establish a connection to an Audit Partner at Ernst and Young how can I approach him to ask him for a internship or an interview for an internship?
maybe for a second year analyst but usually for first year grads in London in IBD it's £60,000+£20,000 bonus +/- 10000, and n trading/markets maybe £50,000 +£15000 , and then after that it gets crazier, even crazier in the buy side
@@andreadimaria2038 wow, that’s crazy, but I guess makes sense, you’re essentially spending 90% of your week working, the 10% is sleep lol, takes a true money hungry psycho to do this.
Hello Afzal Hussein! I would like to start trading/investing and make it an additional source of my income, dedicating cca 2 hrs a day to it. As someone who knows about this a lot, can you please recommend any educational materials for beginners? I know about lots of books, courses, youtube channels that cover this topic, but for me, it is a new environment and it is difficult to navigate it. I would like to spend as minimum time as possible by reading/watching/learning things which add no value to my future life, and thus I ask for your advice. I have a master's degree in political science and currently pursuing my Ph.D. in political science. I have enough time and few thousand dollars I can start with (don't know if that is enough though). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance and thank you for helping other people pursuing their dreams!
Amazed you managed to spin your 3 years in asset management / IMD into a full UA-cam channel, grouping yourself in with actual investment banking and “high finance”. Respect
Hey, great video again! I'm really interested in working in Middle office at a bb bank but I'm not sure on a few things. How many hours would you expect to work and what would the salary be including bonus? Is there any reason to choose middle Instead of front office? Keep up the content 👍
Choose middle if you want less pay and fewer hours; the two come hand in hand. In my opinion the main factor should be picking a division you can manage to work through but also ENJOY, no money in the world is worth it if you loathe going into the office every day!
@@maxconnolly4279 Hey, thanks a lot for your reply. Middle office seems a really good fit for me but how significant is the difference in salary between front and middle office? I totally agree that money isn't everything but I'm a little bit confused because (for middle office) some say the salary is £30k and some say 40 or 50 etc?

Totally agree! It's often times forgotten because it's not as visible as, say, diversity of race.
