Sophie's reaction is priceless here. First, she read about her mom's sex life and now she's listening to her grandma's past love life. Talk about "Mamma Mia."
Mama Mia 3 - Young Ruby, In Mexico during the 1959 war againts America, she fell in love with a Mexican soldier, Fernando. He was young and very handsome. Fernando fought for liberty in his land but unexpectedly, he fell in love with Ruby, an American woman. It was a forbidden love between two rival countries but their hearts beat as one like the beating of the drums. Fernando did everything to save and protect her. He hums songs in her ear from the roaring sounds of guns and cannons that almost made her cry. She was young and full of life and definitely was not prepared to die but with Fernando, she felt safe. Every hour, every minute seem to last eternally but they got separated the day after they shared a starry night full of love. It was tragic but circumstances brought them back together several years later. Fernando who is now a war veteran. Both of them may now be old and gray but the memory they shared during that fateful night when they crossed the Rio Grande is still alive. And once again, their hearts beat as one, like the beating of the drums.
I wouldn't quite say that they're the sexiest great-grandparents but they are cute together, half the time I think that Ruby and Fernando were meant to be together!! I mean, let's face it, the look on Fernando's face told me that he was still in love with Ruby after all these years and the look on her face said the same thing to Fernando!!!!!!!!
Seeing Cher made me understand how Donna was able to travel to different countries and had money to spare for months despite not having a job or anything. Her mom was loaded!!
Yeah, she may not have been to her daughter's school events but she probably gave her enough money in return. And Donna used those up until she reached Kalokairi. And when Donna moved to the island, she either discarded the money or spent all of it, assuming Ruby stopped sending her money the moment she found out her daughter was pregnant.
Yeah there’s a few errors from the first film that didn’t really make sense when Mamma Mia 2 came out. For example, in Mamma Mia, Donna talked about Ruby in past tense indicating that she was either dead or dead to her. Also Donna and Ruby came from a catholic family as Rosie called Donna’s actions “catholic guilt.” And that when she’d gotten pregnant Ruby had told her not to even bother coming back. Yeah Ruby may have been very wealthy during the time period Donna’s travelling took place and could afford her travelling and education and when she got pregnant, Ruby cut her off and Donna probably sent her photos of Sophie etc throughout the years
This was such a fun moment in the movie. The entire audience burst out laughing and clapping before settling down to listen with huge smiles on our faces. :-)
TheMarkmcr not denying the scene being magic, just the whole cheesy dialogue leading into it. Cher could’ve been talking about a long-lost love with Sophie and begun singing Fernando. The whole “Ruby?/Fernando?” thing was a little forced is all I was saying

According to the movie, Donna told Harry about a romance with a bad ending for her mom many years ago (which makes Fernando her father, or at least a very, very probable thing) and Fernando tell Sophie about a past love with a sad ending. If we put both stories and mix them up with the song, we get that Cher (Ruby) was on Mexico for the year of 1959 during some kind of revolution or war (on some comments people think about one between Mexico and Texas but the original song talks about a revolution on 1910) and Fernando was fighting on it, they met and probably... "made" Donna :v before they crossed Rio Grande (I think that because the use of the word "frightful" referring to that night) where they were separated against their will (probable crossing it, the enemy or Fernando wanting to protect her), always remembering their love but doubt that they could ever see each other again. PD: SORRY IF MY ENGLISH IS BAD
The Revolution it is real, happened on 1910, but it wasn't Mexico's independence, which was on 1810. Mexican revolution on 1910 was started to take down Porfirio Díaz, who ruled 30 years.

I really like to believe Senior Cienfuegos is Donna's father and Sophie's grandpa. He and Ruby met in 1959 (putting historical accuracy aside), and Donna graduated in 1979. She was 20 by that time.
Something tells me that Fernando is Donna's father but he was never allowed to hold her in his arms, because they imprisoned him. Ruby was a lot more mature than her daughter, because since being separated from her true love, she never ran away with another guy like her daughter different with bill and Harry. She waited all these years for him and also raised their daughter up.
Sophie is getting more confused about what is going on within a day

Cher, Andy García, ...
Can you hear the drums, Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
In the firelight, Fernando
You were humming to yourself
And softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar
They were closer now, Fernando
Every hour, every minute, seemed to last eternally
I was so afraid, Fernando
We were young and full of life
And none of us prepared to die
And I'm not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry
There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though we never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
Now we're old and grey, Fernando
Since many years I haven't seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums, Fernando?
Do you still recall the fateful night we crossed the Rio Grande?
I can see it in your eyes
How proud you were to fight for freedom in this land
There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though we never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again

Despite all of that, this scene is really romantic and cute especially how wholesome elderly people fall inlove. No doubt their island is Aphrodite herself.
Well, I think she needed time to process what’s happening
I really like to believe Senior Cienfuegos is Donna's father and Sophie's grandpa.
He and Ruby met in 1959 (putting historical accuracy aside), and Donna graduated in 1979. She was 20 by that time.
Fernando was originally written in Swedish and meant to be a track for Anni-frid Lyngstad's album Frida Ensam.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful video

Young Andy Garcia as a Mexican revolutionary in 1959. Why the hell aren't we watching THAT movie?

Great performance by Cher to the beautiful song We love you Cher 🙌🌹
Something tells me that Fernando is Donna's father but he was never allowed to hold her in his arms, because they imprisoned him. Ruby was a lot more mature than her daughter, because since being separated from her true love, she never ran away with another guy like her daughter different with bill and Harry. She waited all these years for him and also raised their daughter up.
I still can’t believe she is in her 70’s. My hero.
