I found the process straight forward, as I'd been using emulation & ADF's for a while before getting back into real hardware. Even flashing FF onto a stock gotek was fairly painless.
Probably going to be buying your gotec. So for my ensoniq samplers, I'm supposed to copy a cfg file to the root of the USB. Would that be in a floppy image or just outside in the "blank space" lol
I am working on getting a gotek drive working with a GEM WK6, I was able to get it installed and powered, it seems to be reading the device I am not trying to get usb thumb drives working.
ADF-Opus is a lot simpler both to set up (none whatsoever, just install) and start creating .adf images, then use the inbuilt explorer to put your files on the disk with drag and drop. Couldn't be any easier.
This is a theory and practice video, not focused on what software a person would use. It's designed to help non-Amiga users as well. Thank you for your suggestion, I hope that somebody who would be in need of what ADF opus does will see your comment.
We had a Gotek replacing a floppy in a old CNC machine. The thumb drive was plugged into the PC to load data. A program was opened there that displayed many virtual floppy drives. Open was one and drag and drop the file into it. Then eject the virtual floppy, eject the thumb drive and bring it to the machine with the Gotek. The procedure there was as intended for floppy drives. That was easier than using a serial interface or a paper strip reader. But I don't work there anymore. It is important that virtual floppies were accessible in a program on the PC. If that helps anyone.
I was just wondering, I have an old version of X-Copy on one of my Amiga disks. Would it be possible to copy my tracker mods or deluxe paint pics onto a blank disk on the gotek running as DF1? Then afterwards running the adf in WinUAE on deluxe paint or octamed?
This tutorial is for the Amiga. The theories involved are the same for other hosts, but not specifically addressed. This is because I cannot possibly own and test all host devices. The main purpose of this video was to tell the viewer you do not copy the data files directly to the usb drive, rather you copy images of disks that contain the data. It is up to you to use the correct tools to create/manipulate images for your own host device. Fortunately there are tutorials for many other host devices that will help you with the specifics.
Hello, how can I make floppy image file from the real 3.5" DD 720KB floppy disk (for Atari 1040 stfm)? I have PC - windows 10 and external USB 3.5" FDD. Is it possible to do it with WinImage program? I would like to use Gotek emulator in Atari 1040 but don't know how to transfer sequencing program from 3.5" disk to thumb drive. Thank you very much for the help and very good explanation in this video.
Anyone familiar with the Atari ST? Have you checked the Atari ST forums or done a google search? Usually someone has done this before and they post it somewhere.
@@retrofriends OK, thank you for the response. I signed up for the Atarimania forum, but haven't received my account activation yet. I will then ask there.
I tried geo tec emulator on a yamaha Rm1x after creating 100 floppydisks on a pen drive i can load a pattern to the Rm1x, but when on saving on a blank disk let's say disk 02 the save will destroy all 100 images for 1 floppy image so when read the pendrive it's just Ben partitioned to 1 3.5 floppy of 1.5mb can you help me with this problem?
@retrofriends let's say on a 16gb pen drive, and on it, there are 100 virtual floppy disk folders. Each disk can only be accessed only at a time, so on the geotek emulator, it would be displayed 01 for disk 1, so on up to 100 Like said, just say I loaded disk one to my midi sequencer, so file loads to sequencer without problems Let's say I wanted to save a midu sequence file from the midi sequencer So, I selected 02 floppy on the emulator to be saved to disk 2, which is an empty disk So it saves to the pen drive now on this pen drive. There are 100 virtual floppys. I have selected disk 2 or 02 on the emulator. But on saving the file, the sequencer or transmission error has erased the 100 virtual floppy folders to none, so on 16g pen drive on emulator is now seen as one floppy disk 1.5 mb in size All 100 disk folders are gone when checking the pen drive on a Windows system now where, before, there on the pen drive, there were 100 folders Do you understand now?
@@lloydrobertevans Thank you for the more detailed description. I am still lost though, because I do not have that equipment, and have never experienced that issue. I do try to help as many people as possible, but the comments section of one of my videos is perhaps not the best place for tech support. Go to my website, retrofriends.com, and follow the gotek support link. Make sure you have followed all the steps for your host device. Ultimately, you will probably need to join the Facebook group and search for your issue. If no one has posted about your issue there before, ask your question there.
My gotek says my floppy is write protected. How do I change write protection on the Amiga disk? I want to transfer files from one Amiga to another via the gotek without using a PC.
I had the same problem with my akai, did you try installing flash floppy firmware? Once you do that it is possible to use the config file on your root directory on thumb drive, there are 3 or 4 entries that need tweaking depending on your hardware. Another big help in getting it working, consider changing the led display for an oled, it's not difficult, then it becomes clear if the gotek is able to see your files and also shows the image/"disk" name.

Prob "ff.cfg" right? Just put it right on the thunmbdrive as though you were moving it to another PC.

hello
Thanks for this cool tutorial.
Do you have any recommendations if I want to place a Gotek into Amiga 600 computer?
Many thanks
I have a couple of videos on putting one into an a500. Closest I can get. Never had an a600.

It is theoretically doable. I used to try such things mostly with success. Get the latest version of flashfloppy to improve your chances.
What about IMG floppy images?

Hey I’m a dos pc used here. .Img will won’t I just ordered my gotek today on eBay. I have used .img on msdos 6.22. That should help!

Use the procedure outlined in this video to create a blank disc, and use that to transfer files back and forth.
i need it to work with my eps , im so lost it just has 3 red zeros and does nothing
