You definitely have the gift of teaching. Thank you for sharing so many of your gifts with us: joy, teaching, design and of course beautiful art. You are a blessing.
Thank you for sharing your thinking about your design process. Besides your delightful approach to watercolor, this has given me a lot to think about. Your work is beautiful.
You are very welcome! I love sharing the process of design, aesthetic and personality in my sketchbooks. Glad it is making you ponder on what is important to you yeah! If you would like to study more about this, my course Found & Curated, a year of visual storytelling is open for registration until March 5 and I think you would love it. You can find the Teachable link in the video description box.
I have to say that you have a flair for design. I like that you tell us how and why you put things where you did. And the colors you choose really bring it all together! Thank you again for sharing your process with us.
I have never been told I have a "flair" for anything so thank you for that new word about my art! I love to share process, design and composition thoughts because once you hear them, when you do art you start to look at things a bit differently and your personal style starts to unfold.
This was so fun and inspiring to see! Thank you for taking us through your first 10 days of drawing!. Beautiful! As always, I am so grateful for your willingness to share your process with us!
Hi KELLY I really love your journal. I am enjoying your colouring too. When I first started watching you I was in New Zealand waiting to go on holiday to England.and I thought I’d like to do an art journal with random things of my holiday. Well I have been here for a few weeks now and I have started, and so very much enjoying each day I draw or paint . So thank you for your inspiration, your ideas, I have been to The Royal Festival Hall listening to Hans Zimmer Music and John Williams. And also the Ballet at Saddler Wells Romoe Juliet as well as visiting family, so you can imagine what a mix that would be . Thank you again Janice xx😊
OMGoodness I am in awe of your travels and I can't imagine what a treasure your sketchbook is going to be when you are finished. Ticket stubs, receipts, fallen leaves, metal bits, they are all game when you are out on location. Have a blast and play each and every day, enjoy!
Kelly, to me this is your very best video yet. Your complete swatch chart is gorgeous, SO much range in your rainbow and pastels to bright colours. Amazing what you can get out of your new palette. Just WOW! ^_^ But to get your design choices train of thought walkthrough for your 100 random things was truly fascinating for me. Like geeking out on fun things with a bestie. I hung on every word. Thank you so much for this great start to my day.
Christine (my middle name by the way), glad this video spoke to you this way, love that! The palette is really delicious and I will be sharing how I created it next week. The 100 random things, just so playful with endless possibilities for sure! If you would like to create with me for a year, I have a course Found & Curated, that walks you through finding your style, design choices, color and unique. You can find the Teachable link in my video description box and I would love to have you join us on this beautiful journey of discovery!
Add my voice to the crowd of those loving your design thinking process. I usually only have one painting design at a time and have not thought about making the whole sketchbook cohesive like this. Fabulous! I am doing my 100 days of nature and enjoying painting small in my small sketchbook one thing at a time. A stack of rocks became 7 days of things. One at a time..NOw, after watching your thought processes I will look again and see if I can join them to the shells and leaves etc. THIS is wonderful! 🎉
I love what you are doing for the 100 days, a weekly study group of items sounds so fantastic! Glad it has inspired you to think differently about the cohesion of your artwork.
Oh, your sketchbook is full of wonder ❤❤ I loved your idea and your way of putting them together and, again, collecting them all in another fun and sweet way. inspiring... I'm sure if you publish your sketchbook with those comments you made in the video, many will buy it. So delightful ❤❤ like you always say, it keeps me smiling 😊😊
Ahhh, thank you so much for your kind comments! I am thoroughly enjoying the 100 days of Random Things and the subject matter just makes it unlimited which is exactly what I was looking for with this challenge.
Hi Kelly. I enjoy seeing your art work. Your creativity with your items, is amazing to me. I don’t collect things, so I wouldn’t know how to do this process. Sure is fun watching you. Thanks
Sue, there are things everywhere. It's not about what you collect, it about what is around you. Groceries, clothing, books, words, furniture, nature, electronics - all random things that can create something really unique. Hope this inspires you to look around and start painting!
Oh my gosh Kelly. . . I LOVE your explanation of the process of planning the composition. You are brilliant! I'm a nature collector too. Thank you so much for your beautiful content. What a joy you are to watch and listen to. I've subbed and look forward to watching past videos as well as those to come. Best wishes. Carole Parks
Thank you so much for subscribing Carole and welcome to In the Studio! If you want to be inspired each month, my course Found & Curated, a year of visual storytelling is open until March 5. Check my Teachable link in the description box if you want to play with paint!
Hello Kelly, I just find you on you tube. What a pretty idea to paint little things that tell a story about you. Thank you. It is very nice that you tell how you look at things, colors and composition. Very inspiring. I will follow you from Holland ;)
Thank you for subscribing and welcome to In the Studio, I'm glad you are here! Hope this video has inspired you to paint what surrounds and inspires you as well.
Your work is beautiful and I love hearing you explain how and why you put things on the pages. I'm trying to remember what you've said as I work in my smaller sketchbook...yesterday I picked up some pretty leaves, moss, a piece of bark, on my walk and arranged them on two pages, keeping your ideas in mind. I painted and splatted water and the pages turned out pretty good. Later, when I showed my husband, he said "I'm noticing that there's a nice flow, a nice arrangement to these things, they aren't just plopped on the page." Hooray! Thanks so much for sharing this with us :) Sandy
YEAH! I loved the responses your husband gave. I believe when you include intention along with your thoughts, the design flows a lot better. My students always say that I'm in their head, your comments made me think of that statement with a little giggle too LOL I love sharing and I'm thrilled you are inspired!
Kelly, did you happen to video you doing your chart? I’m curious as to the balance you gave for each color square. And THANK YOU for your videos!!! I found you a couple of months ago. I love watching your videos and color schemes!! I listen to you while I’m driving long distances, looking at the videos at traffic stops-your voice is so soothing and relaxing, and helps me to settle into a creative atmosphere when I’m in my library. 🥰🤗🤗
I will be sharing the color mixing chart next week so you can see exactly how I structure them to get the most out of my palette. I love that we spend so much time together and that you are taking me on long drives, how fun!
Thank you for sharing. I read about this project and decided I should join in. I have had so much fun painting and drawing every day. I hope I never stop. I am very intrigued by the concertina sketchbook.
I absolutely love ur story behind everything in ur journal, I have signed up to the 100 day program but I am not to sure in what to do for my creative piece, so having a look at other crafters is good for inspiration xx
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that you used the word illustrator! I have been working on my style for a couple of years now and am finally seeing it emerge in full strength.
It is in my nature to find beauty in the broken, I just can't help it they speak to my soul so differently than something perfect. Glad you can relate!
Great video! I love your esthetic, and your 100 day challenge book is going to be gorgeous! I started a “daily art practice” sketch book and I’m challenging myself to use only my Kuretake Art Nuveau and Starry Colors paints. (I’m kind of obsessed with metallic touches currently.) I love your splash texture and I’ve tried it a few times but for some reason it doesn’t look the same when I do it. 😅.
Thank you so much, it is so much fun already! I love that you are choosing specific paints for your daily art practice, it eliminates so many options yet let's you experience them to the fullest. On the splashing, make sure the piece is not too wet, it should have a minimal shine before splashing otherwise the water just pushes the paint to the edges. Hope this helps!
I agree a limited palette has really been helpful. I splash as soon as I’m done painting an object, so I’m probably doing it too soon while the paper is still really wet. I’ll try your suggestion! Thanks. ❤
@@dianacurrao8348 it will work much better as you see the wetness disappearing before splashing. Finding the perfect balance will depend on the moisture in your area also.
Kelly, thank you for sharing your first ten days with us!!!! It’s amazing the amount of thought and time you put into creating!!! The color combination of the leaves on the last page actually takes my breath away ❤ Are those colors in your pallette? How does one even begin to put a personal palette together??? I know what I like; but, I have wayyy too many colors 😬 I love your channel and I am really enjoying the classes of yours that I am working on 💖😘
Thank you so much for your kind comments and making me smiling thinking about them! The leaves are a mix of quin. burnt orange and a bit of (titan buff, apricot, hematite violet genuine and alizarin gold individually of course). I have a lot of paints too, in the hundreds really. If you watch the new Studio Palette Update that I released this month I show you the complete process I went through to narrow it down to 18 colors. And I'm thrilled you are enjoying my courses YEAH!
You definitely have the gift of teaching. Thank you for sharing so many of your gifts with us: joy, teaching, design and of course beautiful art. You are a blessing.

Love this creative idea. Making the Radom cohesive is fantastic.
Thank you, I am enjoying the process tremendously and look forward to what's next every single day!

Glad you enjoyed it!

Oh my dear you made that colour chart. I had to stop the video right there, also you are my yt colour Gandalf
I mean you pick up ugly things and make them pretty, that's why
I know right? It is pretty magnificent - rich, deep and decadent, ahhhh! Color Gandalf - made me laugh out loud, so funny!
