Great Video, i have a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer with over 407,000 kms. It's still the original CVT though the valve body was replaced by Mitsubishi at around 200,000kms . The Mechanic who serviced it said the oil was fairly clean when draining it and no metal shavings present. He was gobsmacked as to how my CVT has lasted so long. I have my fluid changed every 50-60K but now going to change it every 30K.
hi, your regular services are beneficial. just make sure you add additional magnets to help keep the fluid cleaner and keep the fine metallic debris that these trans normally create, from circulating through your trans. good stuff ! cheers

hi, check all basics first incl fluid levels according to temp, battery charged and strong with low internal resistance, good earth and electrical connections, then you can do a fault scan and check solenoids and sensors for contamination. a leaking solenoid will not give a fault code. check out our vid to test for worn valve body bores and valves as well if you dont have a vacuum tester. ua-cam.com/video/aGSm8h7lIdo/v-deo.html few beers always well received if deserved, link is in description. cheers

hi, you need to measure as per manufacturers instructions, often overfull or underfilled will cause issues and/or reduce life of your trans. you cant just put 5L in and say thats fine, unless you had a completely dry trans, then you could do a precise fill. cheers
I have watched a few of your videos and they are brilliant. I was wondering where you ordered you valve body from in the video with the ASX. I am going to replace one in a 2012 2.4 outlander. Thanks.
hi, i recommend when trans has done less than 250,000km to do a trans service every 50,000km, then once has done over 250,000km to do a service once per year or every 25,000km. make sure you add magnets and good idea to install a by-pass trans oil cooler to eliminate chance of coolant entering trans and to help keep trans cool and rubber seals nice and pliable. cheers
hi, they all break down....but any trans will last alot longer if you service trans regularly, add magnets and bypass the coolant/heat exchanger. cheers
Hey mate, just wondering if changing the fluid and filter fixed the issue with lag in acceleration? My Outlander is experiencing similiar issues, although in my case the transmission cooler has failed leading to the coolant and trans fluid mixing. Wondering if the trans is damaged or if I can just do a flush.
hi, filter service is a maintenance thing, it wont fix anything unless the fluid level was wrong or fluid properties were very diminished from heat etc. if coolant has entered trans, depends on how long was there for? often the coolant absorbs into clutch linings and affects the friction capability and/or cause the linings to peel away. if trans has low mileage its worth fitting a bypass cooler asap and maybe if you get it quick enough -flushing fluid a few times ( see ua-cam.com/video/1paq5RbiTNQ/v-deo.html ) the problem is that often you only realize coolant has been in there too late, so choice is your to make. if helps cheers for beers link is in description
Is there a software update for this CVT? I think my CVT is choosing a much higher "gear" than it should going up hill. As soon as I accelerate up hill it's as if the car chokes. I wanted to see what gear i'm on, so I shift it to Tiptronic mode (doing 40kmh) and the gear shows number 4! Car has done 170,000km and I suspect the tranny hasn't been serviced much if any. (bought this in a rush due to the crazy COVID market)
@@user-uf7bc7to6w I contacted the dealership but they said there's no software update. The CVT is still working. Just sluggish when the car is cold, especially going up hill it's really slow
Is it possible to remove the drain pan as you did to drain the fluid and just bolt it back on without changing the filter? Can't seen to remove the drain bolt...
hi, yes not all transmissions have drain plugs. make sure is cool to touch, have suitably sized tray and undo one end of pan so fluid drains out where you want it and not on you. cheers
I'm confused on how to check the fluid level. Should I check it with the car at operating temperature and the engine running or with the car at operating temperature and engine off? Appreciate the help.
hi, initially you need to warm up the transmission over 80degC if it has a flow valve if you have replaced the cooler line filter inorder to purge any air out. otherwise check at operating temp with engine running. cheers
My Outlander 2016, gear start jerk & heat after gear oil mixed with radiator water, I replaced the gear cooler but still jerking & shifting, shall I replaced the CVT ?

hi, use compatible trans fluid with your vehicle. a regular transmission filter service and adding extra magnets will help prolong trans life. also you might consider installing a by-pass transmission oil cooler. cheers
Serviced plenty of manual and standard auto boxes but never a CVT, going to do the girlfriends CVT lancer, feels a bit weak and makes an awful whining under load especially uphill, about 150k km on the clock. Hope it will make a difference.
@@MrRoop999 have ordered all the parts and fluids for a major service so haven't done it yet. She gets no engine lights or anything but it just doesn't seem normal to me. Struggled going up a hill I honestly thought we would start rolling backwards. Soon as it all comes in I'll do it and see
Could you advise, please, if this can be done in the same way for mitsubishi outlander 3.0L V6, 2008 with automatic transmission. Many thanks for interesting video
If car still has warranty it would be best to use Mitsubishi CVT j4 there's been issues with them and are very specific on fluid just changing the fluid can cause or fix issues there's been cars where they had it done at a quick lube with generic fluid and a drain a fill fixed it
hi, in Australia if the lubricant company says that it is compatible they are liable. you can use any compatible trans fluid and will not void the warranty. cheers

hi, check basics first like fluid level, good electrical connections, charged battery etc. then lower the pan and have a look....how long since it had filter service ( not just fluid change ) how many km`s on it?
Great video! Would you say the JATCO CVT7 holds up better than the bigger CVT8 because its in a little Mitsubishi Mirage? I heard low curb weight, low hp & low torque = more reliability. Your thoughts?
hi, they are designed to handle application and then some....the trick is to keep them as clean as possible, not just oil change ( and use correct fluid )...replace filters, clean magnets and add magnets. cheers
Did you resolve the low power issue on this car? Possible that the ecu is torque limiting the engine to try and save the transmission. Does your scan tool read the tcu data correctly? I tried a few but only the genuine dealer MUT-III software would read it. There’s also some android software called cvtz50 that will read the tcu but it wouldn’t work on my 2007 outlander.
hi, i have a few scanners, usually one will get codes that others won`t. and after all that, it is always better to bench test solenoids and sensors for resistance and leaking when they are heated up. scanners won`t pick up on leaking solenoids, they only record electrical readings outside of parameters set inside ecu. basically a code will only tell you there is a fault, it won`t show you exactly where or what the fault is ( this is why many mechanics hate auto transmission ). faults can be anywhere from the ecu to the wiring, to the connections, and finally to the sensors/solenoids etc. if you need to replace one solenoid, it is always best to test them all or as many as you can, while you are working in that area. valve bodies can also wear out. hope that makes sense cheers
Great video and now I am sure I can get this done myself but i have two questions for you. What is the torque setting for the transmission pan bolts? And tightening what pattern works best for cinching the bolts down?
hi, not sure of exact torque setting after so many years i just do them up by hand. i would say max 120inch pound. pattern wont matter so much on trans pan, just do up evenly. on valvebody ismore important to get pattern to tension it down evenly. cheers
Hi i have Mitsubishi asx 2014 model. i changed CVT transmission filter and cooler filter also. After i put 5 litters of oil then i check by dipstick it show me below C. After driving 30mins i check again its still show below C on dipstick. Then i put 1 litter more now it is show more the C and less then H.
hi, as much as needed per filling instructions. never go by how much came out just incase you have a fluid leak or was filled incorrectly, and not good to underfill or overfill. cheers
hi, really depends who you take it to...and whether they replace the inline filter as well ( takes a bit more time plus the filter cartridge ) or just drop the trans pan and replace the filter. cheers
Loved your video mate, this is something I want to do on my 2007 2.4 outlander before I take it to a specialist. 3 months ago it developed a whine that is directly related to the speed it travels at. The higher the speed the higher the pitch and wine. The lower the speed the lower the whine and gets softer. It doesn't fluctuate with engine revs. Almost like a diff whine, I don't know. She has high Km's and the transmission specialists did a service about 4 years ago which is just over 40 000 so I know now by your video that she is overdue. I hope a recon box can be done but I don't know who to see on the Gold Coast mate. Any ideas?
hi, hard to diagnose noise issues without hearing them. could be starving pump or bearing noise, or even broken diaphragm spring. always start with the basics and work up, however if high mileage may not be worth spending the $ on basics checks and go for a more major repair. cheers
@@YepThatsIt I have that same whining, my 2013 outlander does it when I go long drives ,but asoon as I stop the engine then restart it, it goes away.???
The 3.0l has an automatic transaxle different fluid needs ATF J3 process is pretty similar just smaller plug and can't stress enough it doesn't take much to tighten unlike the CVT it can be stripped easily
apparently about 20% better in fuel ! as long as you replace the "slider" ball bearings with solid stainless steel balls and do regular servicing, they last alot longer.
Did he say the CVT "transmission has not been serviced with 209,000 km" on it? No wonder these CVT transmissions have issues with lazy people not doing any maint.
hi, keep them serviced regularly and they will last longer and be more reliable. also nice to help keep seals more pliable by keeping trans cooler with a transmission oil cooler. cheers

hi, i recommend when trans has done less than 250,000km to do a trans service every 50,000km, then once has done over 250,000km to do a service once per year or every 25,000km. make sure you add magnets and good idea to install a by-pass trans oil cooler to eliminate chance of coolant entering trans and to help keep trans cool and rubber seals nice and pliable. cheers
HI , DO YOU KNOW WHERE IS Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor / Switch H Circuit ? MY ASX HAVE P084A CODE
hi, should be on the valve body. cheers
How is the CVT on Mitsubishi? Do you recommend to buy 2.4L AWD
hi, they all break down....but any trans will last alot longer if you service trans regularly, add magnets and bypass the coolant/heat exchanger. cheers
@@YepThatsIt you coolant like a radiator not like water cool transmission
Good job ,👍👍👍
thanks & cheers :-)
Were are you located in Australia also whats the cost of this service thanks
hi, north east country vic. contact details are in description of any of our vids. cheers
(bought this in a rush due to the crazy COVID market)
hi, contact the dealershit for software updates/patches. cheers
Can you tell me, what was the problem at your cvt?
@@user-uf7bc7to6w I contacted the dealership but they said there's no software update.
The CVT is still working. Just sluggish when the car is cold, especially going up hill it's really slow
Is it possible to remove the drain pan as you did to drain the fluid and just bolt it back on without changing the filter? Can't seen to remove the drain bolt...
hi, yes not all transmissions have drain plugs. make sure is cool to touch, have suitably sized tray and undo one end of pan so fluid drains out where you want it and not on you. cheers
@@YepThatsIt Thanks mate for the advice! I will do that instead cause the drain bolt won't budge
I'm confused on how to check the fluid level. Should I check it with the car at operating temperature and the engine running or with the car at operating temperature and engine off?
Appreciate the help.
hi, initially you need to warm up the transmission over 80degC if it has a flow valve if you have replaced the cooler line filter inorder to purge any air out. otherwise check at operating temp with engine running. cheers
My Outlander 2016, gear start jerk & heat after gear oil mixed with radiator water, I replaced the gear cooler but still jerking & shifting, shall I replaced the CVT ?
hi, takes a few fluid changes to get out all coolant if its not too late ua-cam.com/video/1paq5RbiTNQ/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/Veu5h5evTiY/v-deo.html cheers
Hi, your advice pls, The Mechanic checked the transmission & recommended me to replace the CVT due to water entered the gear clutches, Is there any solution for the water? Thanks@@YepThatsIt
How does one maintain this cvt tranny in Africa? Is it safe to use nissan cvt oil? And how does one keep the tranny to last longer please? Yout advice sincerely needed
hi, use compatible trans fluid with your vehicle. a regular transmission filter service and adding extra magnets will help prolong trans life. also you might consider installing a by-pass transmission oil cooler. cheers
Would this be the same for the asx model?
hi, if same trans, then yes. cheers
Serviced plenty of manual and standard auto boxes but never a CVT, going to do the girlfriends CVT lancer, feels a bit weak and makes an awful whining under load especially uphill, about 150k km on the clock. Hope it will make a difference.
cheers
@Jake2. Did the service help ? I am having the very same problem whining uphill
@@MrRoop999 have ordered all the parts and fluids for a major service so haven't done it yet. She gets no engine lights or anything but it just doesn't seem normal to me. Struggled going up a hill I honestly thought we would start rolling backwards. Soon as it all comes in I'll do it and see
@@MrRoop999 I did the service today and it has helped heaps. No more whining up hills and seems to want to rev a bit more happily.
Could you advise, please, if this can be done in the same way for mitsubishi outlander 3.0L V6, 2008 with automatic transmission. Many thanks for interesting video
yes, cheers
Is these CVT gearbox W1CJC?
hi, similar to F1CJC & CVT8 cheers
If car still has warranty it would be best to use Mitsubishi CVT j4 there's been issues with them and are very specific on fluid just changing the fluid can cause or fix issues there's been cars where they had it done at a quick lube with generic fluid and a drain a fill fixed it
hi, in Australia if the lubricant company says that it is compatible they are liable. you can use any compatible trans fluid and will not void the warranty. cheers
Awesome video mate. Have you also done a major service video with the same model outlander? Mine is up for a 120k service soon and I'd like to DIY this one.
hi, will do if one comes in...although we are transmission specialists. cheers

Hello is this gearbox the same that has the mitsubishi Delica D5? And what can make the gearbox cvt to get stuck on first gear and only reverse aswell please I have my D5 stuck in the garage and I can barely get to 15 kms per hour, I can't find proper mechanic
hi, if its cvt will operate very similarly. cheers
Great video, I just bought 2013 outlander sport which has the W1cja and you just hit the mark with your precise how to. Just one question regarding the fluid cause I couldn’t find the Mitsubishi OEM fluid, can I use Nissan NS2 for this?
hi, you need to check their website. we mainly use tritech and penrite lubricants. cheers
come on buy it from the dealer
Hello.my 08 outlander se shakes when i put in gear.in neutral nothing shake but in gear shakes not a lot but u can feel it.can u help me out with any advice.
hi, check basics first like fluid level, good electrical connections, charged battery etc. then lower the pan and have a look....how long since it had filter service ( not just fluid change ) how many km`s on it?
Great video! Would you say the JATCO CVT7 holds up better than the bigger CVT8 because its in a little Mitsubishi Mirage? I heard low curb weight, low hp & low torque = more reliability. Your thoughts?
hi, they are designed to handle application and then some....the trick is to keep them as clean as possible, not just oil change ( and use correct fluid )...replace filters, clean magnets and add magnets. cheers
What about the cvt from outlander 2016 is it at least reliable if not how to prevent issues?
regular filter service and add additional magnet. cheers
Did you resolve the low power issue on this car? Possible that the ecu is torque limiting the engine to try and save the transmission. Does your scan tool read the tcu data correctly? I tried a few but only the genuine dealer MUT-III software would read it. There’s also some android software called cvtz50 that will read the tcu but it wouldn’t work on my 2007 outlander.
hi, i have a few scanners, usually one will get codes that others won`t. and after all that, it is always better to bench test solenoids and sensors for resistance and leaking when they are heated up. scanners won`t pick up on leaking solenoids, they only record electrical readings outside of parameters set inside ecu. basically a code will only tell you there is a fault, it won`t show you exactly where or what the fault is ( this is why many mechanics hate auto transmission ). faults can be anywhere from the ecu to the wiring, to the connections, and finally to the sensors/solenoids etc. if you need to replace one solenoid, it is always best to test them all or as many as you can, while you are working in that area. valve bodies can also wear out. hope that makes sense cheers
check the cat isn`t blocked as well, have found transmission falsely accused of loss of power problems many times
What cvt transmission model is in the outlander with the F1CJC transmission?
what year and size motor is yours?
Hi there. Do you know the torque spec for the bolts on the pan and the drain plug?
Thanks in advance.
hi, 8Nm on pan to case bolts. cheers
Then i put 1 litter more now it is show more the C and less then H.
hi, always check as per manufacturers recommendations. cheers
Where exactly is the cooler filter?
Why are the magnets just loose? That doesn't seem like a great idea?
hi, they dont go anywhere and easier to clean. just make sure they aren`t near any moving components or too close to solenoids. cheers
@@YepThatsIt Thanks
How much fluid do you refill the transmission with after you drop the pan?
hi, as much as needed per filling instructions. never go by how much came out just incase you have a fluid leak or was filled incorrectly, and not good to underfill or overfill. cheers
What is the service interval on a Mitsubishi Outlander cvt?
Every 30,000 miles.
hi, when trans has done under 200,000km every 50,000km, then when has done over 200,000 every 25-30,000km. cheers
What happens if the bolt is loose?
hi, which bolt?
@@YepThatsIt sorry the selector bolt
After I drive my outlander for a bit it will hard shift from first to second.
How much would it cost to service 2012 Mitsubishi asx automatic transmission and what’s involved John thanks
hi, really depends who you take it to...and whether they replace the inline filter as well ( takes a bit more time plus the filter cartridge ) or just drop the trans pan and replace the filter. cheers
What is the part number of the 2 filters anyone?
hi, varies depending on brand.
Any ideas?
hi, hard to diagnose noise issues without hearing them. could be starving pump or bearing noise, or even broken diaphragm spring. always start with the basics and work up, however if high mileage may not be worth spending the $ on basics checks and go for a more major repair. cheers
Hi Alex,
My 2007 Outlander has the same type of whining noise on the transmission. Were you able to sort yours out?
Anthony
@@YepThatsIt I have that same whining, my 2013 outlander does it when I go long drives ,but asoon as I stop the engine then restart it, it goes away.???
Does this apply to 3.0 engine version as well ?
hi, yes if same trans will be same. cheers
The 3.0l has an automatic transaxle different fluid needs ATF J3 process is pretty similar just smaller plug and can't stress enough it doesn't take much to tighten unlike the CVT it can be stripped easily
hello, how long does it take to do the job? Thank you!
hi, little bit longer without a hoist. cheers
Does anyone here know how to change the stepper motor?
hi, access by lowering valve body. cheers
can anyone please tell me what is the torque specs, tightening bolts with torque wrench
hi, depends on which bolts you are asking about. good idea to have the manual cheers

Gracias
i like the concept of cvt's but i wont be buying a car with one anytime soon
apparently about 20% better in fuel ! as long as you replace the "slider" ball bearings with solid stainless steel balls and do regular servicing, they last alot longer.
Why did show how easy it was to put the trans mission cover because piece of cake right? So here America I’ll rate a 3 and good
thanks for the uber rating, cheers
Did he say the CVT "transmission has not been serviced with 209,000 km" on it? No wonder these CVT transmissions have issues with lazy people not doing any maint.
hi, keep them serviced regularly and they will last longer and be more reliable. also nice to help keep seals more pliable by keeping trans cooler with a transmission oil cooler. cheers
I thought zh outlanders were fitted with coolers as standard, should be in the front of the passenger wheel well.
I watched to see the upper filter change and unfortunately that was the one thing you didn't do
hi, I think I have that in another similar vid. cheers
😮
CVT from nissan Jatco

Jeeep!
haha
You have to prove your shop and you tube Internet became more job
sorry don`t quite understand ?
Do Not purchase any parts from All Auto Part Store. They DID NOT honor the 60 day warranty on the transmission they sold me for my 2010 Outlander. This company has a D rating by the Better Business Bureau.
never heard of them
Cvt are infinite gear ratios......there is no such thing as a CVT "6 speed" transmission
hi, very true, however, some have simulated gear change feel that will put ( step ratio up or down ) the belt "jumps" into a specific position when you operate it manually or take off a bit firmer. cheers
6 programmed gears..
These rigs are ok except for the transmission they are fucking junk 100% junk.
