There are so many paint schemes, though vfaw-3 will always be the prettiest of them all IMO. That’s always the scheme people choose, so I of course have chosen something different. 🤣
@@ThercgeekYou should offer this in a kit, or better yet get with FMS, HH, or MotionRC and have them spec a kit.. I’m sure you’d sell a TON of these. Just sayin.
R.i.P Hustler. Long live Skyray ! Sorry about your breakdown when enterviewed by the blond lady. She was so nice you let your guard down. It happens. Just remember..."there's no cryin' in flyin'. I love, I love, I love, I'm so happy for you, the last plane you did, I don't know if I was more pissed on you, or me. I was angry, because I did want to see more flights from that piece of art. I so happy for you that this beauty came out good and flew like a fantastic platform. Hope you get thousand of flight out of this beauty.
Great flight Chris. Love the Skyray. I grew up in El Segundo California and as a kid my buddy Fred and I would ride our bikes down Imperial highway to Aviation Blvd to watch aircraft take off and land and on the way passing Douglas aircraft on occasion there were Skyrays parked there along with sky warriors and later skyhawks. Those were the days.
Such a little sweetheart. Nice to see something different. Hopefully you get inspired and finish the bigger one also! You have one hanging in the rafters thats been patiently waiting also tgat is quitly whispering to be finished... you have to watch out for Cats in the rafters.....
Very cool! Seen some of how it was made in that video. That didn’t look easy with how thick the foam was. I am kinda partial to the drone paint scheme from the Naval Test Center was. I think it looks cool as hell. That’s my suggestion for the skyray. 😁😁
I don’t know much about the Skyray , but looks great. Congratulations Chris on your successful maiden flight 🎉. Definitely a great win for you . A slippery customer and on the video was surprised how quite she is with lots of power . Looking forward to more .
Congrats brother on her maiden flight man! Good work, I cant wait to see the livery. Hey let me know when you choose and begin to paint. Ill draw one to show my love for the sky ray.
Hello c du superbe boulot vraiment !!! l'avion est magnifique et il vol comme dans un Rêve ... Merci pour ce partage . A bientôt !!!! Stéphane de France ...
Nice jet , fly well.I ad the Global jet Cub once with a 60 size turbine , a very nice flyer needed a gyro for the dutch roll ..I should never sold the beauty ...
So great to see the RC Geek full-on geekin' out over another time suck, yet rewarding and sucessful project. What an absolute beauty! Can't wait to see her all dressed up for prom 👍
Chris, as long time follower of your channel, and a huge fan of your projects, I cant help but feel the heartbreak that the crash of that B-58 must have brought. Regardless, you talk about "needing a win" and honestly, every video you post, and every weathering video, or flight vid, or painting tips vid, or build vids, essentially everything you post are full on WINS in my humble opinion! I live up in Edmonton Canada, and our flying season is SO short, that I have to live vicariously through the people down south once winter hits. I have a winter "Warbird" project that is entirely inspired by your work, and essentially has to do with a P-47 Thunderbolt, that i want to completely fill all the panel lines, get it smoothed out then work on a fantastic custom paint job, and order some vinyl from someone who knows how to do it right, and basically get it looking like it should, instead of looking like "Just another foamy! " So thanks for your inspiration, and thanks for everything you do! Look forward to all the weathering/panel line, detail and marking work that you have to come! Thanks Chris, for all you do!
Thank you so much for your kind encouragement! I’m looking forward to seeing your p47 project. If you haven’t seen it already, I have a free painting guide available on my website at www.thercgeek.com/trcgscaleguide
Awesome and unique build Chris! Between you, and the Hecht Mafia, I think I'm really appreciating the "Ford" in a way I never did in the past. Truly a classic and iconic USN Fighter from Douglas. You and Brent really did a great job capturing the essence of this plane and MAN does it fly good! Blue skies my friend!
Looks Amazing!! I saw Brents a while back, had no idea it was Depron. Btw painting the cockpit floor with Vanta Black makes it look like it's a full cockpit.... Nice work man!!!
Shouldn,t take to long with all that wing area. Usful as well for your bigger one when ya get around maybe ya new scale comp machine for next year. Amazing amount of schemes as well for Skyray. Be well kèep on Trucking. ;0)
It flies great! It's a little squirrely on the landing though. It needs some brakes! The cicadas are bad there. I can hear them in the background in the video.
Honestly, I’m still getting it dialed in and sorting out the best landing procedure. Cg could stand to go back a little bit too I think which would help.
Honestly, there’s not really a plan set for this. I scaled up a design I had for a smaller fiberglass model and just started cutting and fitting as we went.
They are definitely unique. 😊. The outer portion acts as a counterbalance which helps with flutter and the surface float angle if there’s an actuator failure.
I totally get where you’re coming from. Sometimes it’s just fun to bash depron and/or balsa than spending all that tooling time. In this case too, it’s a far quicker build. These were completely framed up and ready for fiberglass in about a weeks time.
GORGEOUS ship!! I, too, have ALWAYS loved the look of the "Ford"!!!
Looks great! I love those "forgotten" jets!(F-11 Tiger, FU7 Cutless, F-9 Cougar, F-84 Thunderjet, F-89 Scorpion etc.)
Hi there Chris! Again one of my favourites. There are many great paint schemes for the FORD. Thanks again for sharing.

I was never a fan of the sky raider until now! She’s a beaut!
Very nice Chris. You and Brent working together...doesn't get any better than that. Two of the best builders in the hobby right now. Flies great too!
Thank you!
Absolute......just one word needed here for this project!!
The Skyray was always a properly named plane. Looks like one in the air , for sure.
Right?! It’s one of the few jets that truly looks how it’s named, haha
It surely is !! @@Thercgeek
Fantastic model and build. Looks like a great flyer and wonderful in the air!
Many thanks!
Beautiful flying, and sounded great!!,
Many thanks!!
One of my all time faves! I love the look of the Cutlass as well.
awesome work Chris. very cool that you guys get into the real engineering of the airfoils and all of that kinda stuff!
Thanks!
Love the Skyray! One of the best aspects of it is all the awesome color schemes that are available for it.

It’s such a cool shape to see fly. It’s one of the few fighters that’s named how it looks! 😆
Congrats Chris! Great looking bird can't wait to see the detailing series on it.

Awesome! Enjoying my scratch built ray based on Eugene Martin plans, built from Depron. Hope you get many flights on yours.

I’m hoping you could maybe go a custom build on the Flightline Corsair bubble top since it’s an amazing plane to fly
Way to go Chris! You definitely deserve a win after the B-58 tragedy. It looks so sick in the air
Many thanks!
I love it dude! Killer flight!
Thanks mah dude, it was a fun project! Thanks for your help pushing it forward for me. 😊
That looks so cool
Beautiful on the ground and in the air, mate! If I had a place to fly, I'd love to build one. 😊
RBC Wood kits do a nice CNC kit of the F4D sized for 90mm edf. Would be an excellent basis to copy the paint job Chris has done here. Well done . 👍
Outstanding! You and Brent did a amazing job. Scratch built must be very rewarding as opposed to a 1hr assembly out of the box!
Thank you! Building your own project is a whole other kind of reward honestly. I encourage you to give it a try. 😊 You learn more with every project.

I like the shape of the elevons wonder why they designed the tips like that.

That’s closer to the Douglas F5D Skylancer.
Yep, it was the older brother to the skylancer. I’d love to build a skylancer one of these days. They were pretty beastly.
If u gonna put in invaluable commodity time, then y not fibre glass / GFRP?
