Very quality content, this has a potential to be shown in the televisons
I doubt non football fans would like it
The are more than a few football fanatics though!
András Szabó while I agree most fans such as in my case will not the coverage due to the nation I live
TV is dead
Pls do a video on Netherlands downfall since the 2014 world cup
Since 2010 right? Even thought their run to the finals were impressive, they should've never ever gotten that far.
Why do you need a whole separate video on that?? They have a shite team complemented by a shite manager. Maybe they'll improve if they can get LVG back.
It doesn't have a lot to do with tactics. Just not many good players at their peak.
Ian Forward Combine that with the decay of the Eredivisie and Dutch youth system too
Everything has to do with tactics.. Everything in the game..
This was the first video as voted for by you guys. Would anyone like another poll to vote on? - Danny
uMAXit Football Barcelona's playing style: Pep Guardiola vs Luis Enrique
uMAXit Football analysis of why formations with 3/5 defenders are dominating leagues as seen by Chelsea Spurs Juventus and more recently Barcelona
Brazil national team of 70's or French team of 98?
We'd love that
+xVedant Barcelona arnt dominating la liga
Juve dominate because of influence/money
Spurs are dominating the EPL??
Chelsea ARE dominating the EPL because because managers refuse to adapt to a 343 system. instead pretend they are playing against 451/442/433. This and the squad is perfectly suited to contes italian style
Ji-sung Park was a destroyer against Milan’s pirlo back then 😍
Please do a video of Sevilla's signing philosophy! (Related with "Moneyball") I think they are on of the most succesful teams of Europe in that particular area, and since you left them out on the "Moneyball" video I think I'd be great if you made one focusing on them
Herrera's performance in man marking Hazard was phenomenal
Absolutely
The Great Debate.
Thank you for this. Another fantastic vid from our favourite Football Philosophes.
Fellaini is a destroyer alright....for his own team
`I wouldn't say that to his face...-Danny
you had called them idiots in your last comment. As far as i know this channel it doesn't support any hate comments.A little banter is ok this comment was....but no name calling.
Don't worry we know the banter when we see it! - Danny
felix winchester is he even a footballer??
Has been great this season
While not as flashy or glamorous as previous videos, this was definitely a smart and intelligent video. Really made me think, and it gave me some thoughts.
Good video.
Tactics Explained are the best videos!

2:42 - Manchester United Ander Herrera on Chelsea Eden Hazard is a perfect example :)
Dami Akosile which cost United the final because Hazard dragged him out of position.
Just did the same thing and won away at Chelsea,I'm with Dami

Brilliant as ever. Up to 75k subscribers too! Congrats!
Thank you Paul, we appreciate everyone's support! - Danny
An interesting video on sub-tactics..i would call it an important sub-tactic in a catenacchio system predominantly.
Could you make a video about the football clubs academies and what are the critereas to judge an academy as a succesful/failing one
Most underrated channel in whole youtube.
I think something that would be interesting would be to compare the stats between teams that zonal make vs man mark on set pieces. Like goals conceded per set piece. I know there are other variables that effect if you are going to concede at a set piece but I feel like quite a few pundits complain about zonal marking at set pieces and I am curious if it really is less effective than man marking!
Brendan having been an arsenal fan, I'm skeptical of anything Wenger tried to do in the last decade. But klopp does it too. In the same fashion he's known for offense not defense. It could work and have some advantages like taking on runners toward the cross or free kick and stopping tall players with multiple shorter ones, it might depend on the opponent. But you have to have smart decisive players with quick reactions and dedication to positioning and it has to be drilled into their heads. TBH I don't think Wenger has a clue about defense, but it's hard to say because he never had enough players that could play defense on hand. Most teams don't (but he took lack of defense to an extreme). Inb4 the defense is possession. You can't possess the ball the whole game.
Therefore my conclusion is good in theory, but too difficult for too many players.
great stuff man. excellent stuff. i am already thinking of taking coaching badges.your videos are helping me to know a lot about various tactics and aspects of the game. thank you
Glad we are helping you along your path! - Danny
expecting more old tactics of best teams from the past.
This is the greatest channel
Great video!!
As a football player, I learn so much from this channel. Thank you.
Thanks Timothy!
- Joe
Did you know that? The ZONE DEFENSE is a defensive tactic also used in basketball. It allows to cover defensively any court zone. 🏀⚽️
Bloody'ell this lad's a history! 👍🏾
do a video on tuchel's 2016/17 dortmund 3-1-2-4
Thank you! I love tactics, so listening to your videos help me understand them and help create my own. Im working on a 4-1-2-3. formationn. with dropping Wingers and Ram/ Lam on defence and like 7 trianle formations in attack.
The almost perfect implementation of zonal marking was done by bayern against barca in 2013 when they beat barca by 7-0 over two legs in the UCL.... What legendary performance that was....And for the first time tiki taka was stopped
when i played youth football in germany i always remember just running after the kid you were supposed to mark the entire game and exchanging slurs... fabolous times. but when i went to france for an exchange program they were all laughing at me since i was running after one guy like a dog, its crazy how late germany addapted zonal marking and 4 man defense
I really fancy being a manager or a coach and tifo football is my guide!
Bruh tifo still hearting lol
Great video guys. Would love to see one on the rise and rise of N'Golo Kante from French Third Division to (potential!) back to back Premier League champion. Thanks, Adam
Thanks pal. Good suggestion. For now we have a video looking at his stats from his two seasons in the Premier League, if that will at all whet your appetite - Danny
uMAXit Football what about the dominant Lyon team of the 2000s?
Great video,Thanks
You're welcome
Could you do a video similar to this but how should a fullback defend?
Man marking whole team sounds crazy in modern game.
Good points, but further these points by explaining how zonal marking can be made effective from set pieces. Perhaps reference Athletico Madrid and West Brom( Tony Pulis teams). Other teams to consider would be Conte's Juventus and Chelsea, it will explain the role of the sweeper furthermore (Bonucci and David Luiz)
great video btw :)
this is good but could you please do a video on Atlanta United's tactics and how they are revolutionizing the MLS?
A better example of a 'destroyer' would be Ji Sung Park. He held Pirlo captive when United played them in CL.
defending in modern football is art , and new center back styles such good long passing defenders like Ramos , T. Silva .. play important role in that change , because defender now have to do more than waiting and tackling ..
agree. i think its harder to find a Thigo Silver or Leonardo Bonucci type then it is to find a Lewandowski or Agauro
A great example of using a Destroyer was how Herrera handled Hazard in Man Utd's 2-0 victory over Chelsea (yesterday). Completely negated Hazard's creativity and even the lack of Marcos Alonso hurt him.
Lies again? MMA Fighter Miami Florida
So would a player like park ji sung be considered as a destroyer? when he destroyed pirlo vs. ac milan
Tifo my teacher
I liked before watching
please do a video on the change from classic 442 to 4231 nowadays .
Thanks for the suggestion pal - Danny
Please do a video on Newcastle's almost winning titles between 1994 and 1996 under Keegan era
how about tactical breakdown of a world cup winning side like spain2010 or germany 2014 or italy 2006?
Great introduction, and i'm surprised that the Brazilians were the first to use zonal marking
please do a video analyzing how that yellow team beat my team in the semi finals when I was 14. thanks
Very nice video, weird choice of music
OMG THANKS
do a Paul Scholes individual analysis. It will be great
Changes to the offside rule and back pass rule made the sweeper/libero redundant and encouraged pressing. No sweeper, no man for man marking.
But why is Barrack Obama in the thumbnail?
obi_the_president 😂😂😂
obi_the_president 😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Dude stop the ignorance
It's weird to say this because I've always liked man marking, but I saw it implemented in the first leg of City vs Tottenham, in which Fernandinho man marked Kane, and In Newcastle vs Southampton, in which Almiron was targeted. In both occasions it didn't work, because the ball was allowed to spread significantly more among the other players. It would suggest that zonal marking is the better option, because no man runs a team certainly not anymore. Tho when playing Chelsea one would man mark Hazard. They do actually rely on him 😂
Please do a Tactics Explained on Zidane's Real Madrid...!!
Tactical analysis on Germany 2014, especially vs. Brazil
request: can you please do an analysis on Didier Deschamps?
Zonal marking FTW!
podcast please
Do you know who came up with zonal marking in set pieces?
I think man marking should be used over zonal unless you have very slow defenders. Any attacking player worth his salt can exploit zonal marking. But a speedy and physical defender is more likely to win the ball every time
What about something more historical, like Brasil or Holland in the 70's? Great videos btw
Thanks for the feedback and suggestion bud, will keep it in mind - Danny
You could cite example of Barcelona vs Bayern Munich, where Guardiola's Barca were playing Tiki-taka but Jupp Huykens' Bayern adopted zonal marking and destroyed it once and for all. Then the same zonal marking was implemented by Real Madrid to destroy Pep's Bayern Munich.
Wow, I hope you will get a chance to be air on TV during halftime lol
no doubt Kloop loves man marking so much. Even always getting one of his shorter players to be the first screen from set pieces. He seems to not worry that he doesn't have the personnel at LFC to implement the zonal system effectively. Conceding two third's of your goals from set pieces is proof the personnel isn't there Kloopo.
Chelsea fan here, came here after watching my side struggle with zonal marking.
Video on Ronaldo[el el phenomenon], on why he left barca.
Could you make a Profile Video of Raul Jimenez? (Why he has been successful)
Tottenham tactics plzzzzzzzzzz!
It's a regular suggestion. We read through them all so yours has been noted - Danny
As a Liverpool fan I am perplexed by the use of Zonal marking for set pieces. It looks disorganised and useless.
I know we're shite at set pieces but I think thats mainly because players are not tightly marking the opposition.
Look at West Brom, they're brilliant at set pieces!
Michael Lally also half the team is below 5'10 and can deal with the taller players of the lower league sides
Yeah exactly. West Brom however are the masters of set pieces in the league, they don't use zonal marking
finally, someone explain Fellini job in manchester utd
Do Premier League Survival Sunday 2010/11
do you have these in readable pdf formats?
At the moment, no - but when our new website Tifo launches in November, we will be providing transcripts below each video on the site.
- Joe
awesome stuff. i look forward to that.
do a video on mourinho's real madrid
So the man marking was why Brazil dominated during Pele's time. The football was so 1v1 that the Brazilian attackers just trash their markers
I was thinking that too . . . traditional Tango and Samba football has position switch by players as far I know, but did Argentina or Uruguay follow zonal marking or man marking? when then Argentina and Uruguay start zonal marking?
An example of a destroyer is Torreira man-marking Jorginho in the Arsenal-Chelsea match that Arsenal won 3-0.
I see this zonal coverage in high school games here in America. Teams with weak players can pass the ball around in the back and find wide open midfielders. If the midfielders don't have anything they can pass it back to the wide open defenders. If they were all being covered with tight man to man they would lose the ball consistently in the back and give up a lot of easy goals. So I guess coaches watch top pro teams and top international teams and say hey they do it so will we. Except they all have tremendous skill and confidence on the ball unlike the majority of high school players here in the USA.
Next: Wide Play.
Move into channels vs Hug Touchline vs Cut Inside
Man Marking is great for players with a lot of stamina like Kante.
Soccer is great. 😁
Herrera the destroyer
The difference between man-orientated and space-orientated Zonal marking did not really become clear to me. Can anybody please explain if you have understood?
arsenal are the best side at man marking, it even showed vs west brom😂😂😂😂
Ïlkãy Çhrîs dë pîë that's because we don't man mark😂. We use Zonal marking at set pieces which hasn't worked for years now.
I understand this speaker better than Troopz!
Innit like
Destroyer - Ander Herrera on Hazard
I do not really understand about the position-oriented zonal marking. Any kind souls wanna help? :)
Back in those umaxit days
A video on how Arsene Wenger has failed to take Arsenal to the next level aftera successful start to his reign
AS Monaco 16/17 tactics
Great content; but...
Dear editor.. when you went to school did they play audio over the speakers during class to distract you from what was being taught by the teacher?
No?
Then why are you using this unnerving sound in the background?
We like atmosphere - Danny
formation rewiew 4-1-2-1-2 narrow
I prefer Zonal marking man to man is a crash waiting to happen #ggmu
