Trumpet Tip--Reduce Tongue Arching

  • A little past New Year's Day, but here's how to reduce tongue arching.... Play multiple ascending octaves of the same short melody, keeping your tongue arch roughly the same in the current octave as you just did in the previous (lower) octave. Read that again.... When I taught privately, I observed most players arching their tongues way too much as they ascended, creating too much tension and an increasingly smaller sound the higher they attempted to go.... It's a simple fix. Try it, you'll like it..... 😜

Happy New Year to you Lynn. I am so happy that I found your channel. And I will be honest. I am a brass player but I just love to hear you hit those high notes (like this fourth octave). You are a monster in the high range and every time I watch your videos, those high notes just make me grin from ear to ear!!!!! Thank you for putting your talent on the web so everyone can enjoy it. You are an amazing player.

BTW the little riff you were playing had an "I Love Lucy" vibe to it.
