Oh wow, yeah great idea! We've been meaning to checkout Rudy's for a while now actually, heard great things about their bbq, might need to try that this weekend, thanks!
Thank you, yeah it's really beautiful for sure! I'm one of the weird ones who actually doesn't mind the cold weather! I can definitely understand how many don't see it as appealing though! My wife grew up in Florida her whole life so she was also ready to move somewhere new 😄
Thanks a lot!! My wife and I have been in love with our 4xe, cant express how happy we have been with its performance and the utility it provides us. Things we like: hp/torque (we just lifted it and put 35s and I haven't really noticed any loss of pickup any very little maybe 2 miles less of electric range), no gas for months needed using only electric for daily commute and errands etc, awesome offroading in quiet, regenitive breaking. Negatives: lose available space due to battery's compared to Ice wrangler, heavier vehicle, not a lot of electric range around 24mi avg I'd say some times more sometimes less depends on weather and how you drive, more complexity and cost more than avg wrangler. Probably more than you wanted to know haha, there's a lot of intricacies that add up to us overall loving the 4xe platform for our purposes, but I could see it not being for everyone. We just did a big road trip into the San Juan mountains and did the alpine loop, orphir and imogene pass and the 4xe exceeded all our expectations. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!! Have a great day 😁✌️
Nice Jeep ! 👍 And nice dogs too❤ We have a Swiss White Shepherd dog too, Nina 🐾. Do the dogs have enough space in the back ? How long was the trail ? And how far can you go in electric mode with a full battery ? The Rubicon is on my list, I like your color green. What I don't like is the heavy weight (battery pack), and the small fuel tank. I own 2 Pajeros, a 3 doors 2,5 turbodiesel weight 1500 kg, and a 5 doors 3,5 V6 petrol, with weight 1955 kgs, the fuel tanks are 75 and 92 liters ! A new Landrover Defender PHEV has a 87 liter fuel tank, and weight is 2600 kgs. Here in Europe we are forced to cars with some sort of electric engines, otherwise you pay skyhigh taxes ! We also have to pay a lot more for heavy cars. A Jeep Rubicon 4xe costs about 95.000 euros in my country ! Choosing a 4x4 car is not easy......
Thank you and that's awesome you guys have a Swiss Shepherd as well, we love our dog Link; they are a wonderful breed! In terms of space for the dogs yes there is plenty of space in both the rear seat area or the back storage area of the vehicle. The trail in Colorado are really extensive so we ended up only really doing a portion of it that acts like a loop which was about 5 miles if I remember the specific trail your asking about or 8km. In terms of all electric range it really depends on how you drive, weather and type of terrain your traversing also if your in 2wd or 4wd. For daily driving to work and back in 2wd and not completely flat roads I'm getting at best around 27 miles of all electric range but on avg more like 24 miles of range in 4wd. In terms of all electric range offroad I think the best I've done is 9 to 11 miles of electric range as offroad driving in Colorado is very mountainous and often I'm driving using 4low, lockers and traversing all kinds of challenging terrain. Yeah I like to watch all kinds of videos from people in Europe so I definitely understand that it's a challenge their to get a reliable 4x4 vehicle that meets the European requirements and checks all the boxes while also being affordable. I know there are a few choices you have so I think it really comes down to your use case and how you want to end up using the vehicle. The Rubicon in my book is going to be the most capable suv you can buy and the easiest to modify if that's something you would be interested in. The weight and lack of total range and price are definitely big considerations. Since I don't work farther than 24 miles away it works perfectly for me as I go the entire week without ever needing to refuel on gas I've had gas tanks full of fuel from my last fill up last over a month as I really only spend on gas for my long trips into the mountains and when offroading. The good thing is you can always extend the range of the Jeep by mounting rotopax or other types of fuel canisters when you need the extra range. It can also be nice like for us when we find chargers out at destinations near hikes we want to do etc and we can charge and get a good at least 24 miles back in 2hrs while hiking and for a relatively cheap price compare to that in gas but that's assuming you can find a convenient charger. But yeah again it comes down to what your goal is, it's possible that if the price is competitive then maybe going for a land rover phev is better because of the large fuel capacity and maybe more comfortable inside layout, maybe you don't need all the capability of the rubicon and so you could go with other alternatives like the grand cherokee 4xe or the new Toyota Land Cruiser or even a 4xe Willys as it won't have all the fancy features of the rubicon but will be capable enough for 85 percent of things and you save on weight. Our experience with our Jeep Rubicon 4xe has been entirely positive, works great for daily driving and helps us save money during the week but on the weeks we have an adventure vehicle that is a lot of fun and very capable on the trails. I do think though if going on very long road trips and overlanding is more the goal and your going to do it quite often and/or you don't have the ability to charge it at the end of the day, then I don't think the 4xe is a good option as the battery weight will just end up detracting. Although that would also kind of apply to any phev, I do think Europe should be good in general for this though as I believe Europe is a lot better in terms of charging infrastructure then in the US as a whole. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you want me to expand on anything, otherwise I hope you and your family end up with the perfect vehicle that meets your needs!! 😁✌️
@@departureoutdoors Hi friend from Colorado, thanks for all the information and advise 👍 Very kind. Here in the Netherlands, we have no mountains, all is flat. So no exciting trails in my country 😥 I like the Rubicon because it is a real 4x4, and not som fancy SUV. The 4xe is the only model that is available here, it stays on my wish-list. Also the Defender PHEV, which is with 87.000 new-price, a bargain around here.😜 There is also the new Ineos Grenadier on my list, but I have to wait for the fuel-cell engine, or the full electric model, as the now available petrol and diesel costs 170.000 euros and up ! ooops.... Maybe Ford Bronco could make a model with some electrification, I like that car too. As mentioned before, I have 2 Mitsubishi Pajeros (Monteros in the US ?) and they are in good condition. These Japanese cars are very reliable. So there is no hurry at the moment. We wil wait and see what the future brings. Toyota comes with a new Landcruiser Prado in 2024, maybe with some hybrid or electric, who knows.... I like your channel, and will follow your adventures with the Jeep 4xe and of course Link. 4x4 greetz from the Netherlands, and a paw from our Nina🐾
Haha thank you so much, love that we are able to be seen by those in Netherlands and abroad! I've yet to travel to Netherlands but it's on my list of European countries I need to see and explore! Glad the Rubicon is still on your list haha, sounds like your looking at some good vehicles, the Grenedier definitely looks cool but that is really pricy for petrol and diesel wow. Love the look and performance of the Bronco as well, we see a lot of them on the trails and around town, very cool looking new 4x4. I think they are all solid vehicles so I hope your able to get a good one when your ready, although I've always been a Jeep person from a young age so I'm definitely a little biased in that direction haha. I like all things 4x4 though 😁. Hope I was able to help a bit, thanks agik for compliments and for watching the video! We have a lot of trips planned here into the mountains so more videos to come! Netherlands is a beautiful country so even without trails you all are super blessed with unbelievable scenery and nature! Happy Trails my Dutch friend, I'll be sure to get out Swiss Shepherd Link some more camera time haha!
Haha, I totally get it, my wife and I were the same! It's an adventure vehicle more than a car! 😁 We've both had various cars before but it was always just get us from point A to B and that's all, but the Jeep, we just enjoy driving it every chance we get and looking at it lol. Smiles per mile ✌️
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it! Yes we are running on the stock tires that come with our Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe. Believe these are the stock tires that come with any Rubicon or maybe even Willys edition Jeep, 33 inch (think technically maybe 32inch) BF Goodrich K02 tires on a 17 inch rims/wheels.
Hey, yes very much still enjoying my Jeep! I know there are a lot of people interested in the hybrid Jeep but have a lot of legitimate concerns with them. I know there seems to have been issues with bad 12v batteries in pre 2023 4xe, especially 2021s, but I haven't had any issues with our Jeep. Its been working perfectly and my wife and I have been getting great fuel economy and really have enjoyed both the daily driving and offroad performance of the vehicle. If you have any specific questions or concerns I can help you answer, feel free to ask!
@@departureoutdoors thank you so much for your reply. Yeah I'm on the Facebook group and I see some problems and like you said the first gens had some issues. I'm eyeing a 23 but the dealer won't budge on the price so I may wait for the 24. Glad you're enjoying it I can't wait to get one! Oh have you noticed a big jump on your energy bill monthly?
No problem!! Haha yeah I'm also a part of the Facebook group and yeah it can definitely be scary reading all the issues that some of the first gen vehicle are having or had, but in general it's always more likely that people will complain when things go wrong verse going out of your way to talk about the good things, so you mostly hear about the bad on those groups but definitely still something to consider and I always enjoy reading those to be aware of potential problems and what's worked for others or didn't. Yeah the price is really the biggest detractor in my eyes. We got a pretty good deal on ours and also we just barely got it before they stopped qualifying got the federal tax credit, also Colorado has a really good tax credit itself so all that together made it appeal a lot more to us. If I was buying now I think I would try and go for the 2024 for the extra safety air bags, the new screen, the included outdoor charge box with outlets which is cool and overall I'm sure Jeep learned and improved on overall performance of the 4xe. 2023 is still a solid model though based on my experience but if the price is equivalent definitely try and get a 2024 unless your set on a rubcion or something then 2023 may be a good saving eventually here as the market adjust. Happy hunting on your next vehicle though, wish you all the best!! 😁✌️
@@departureoutdoors I totally agree people definitely can't wait to complain about something lol. That's awesome you got a good deal and the tax credits are sweet. Yeah I'll shoot for a 24 unless they give me a killer deal on this hydro blue I'm eyeing. Thanks again and God bless!
Oh sorry forgot to mention, it depends on where you live and your electricity rates but here in Colorado where I live, I've only noticed maybe 20 bucks more or less on my bills so it's been almost negligible for the amount of driving I've done on pure electricity alone. I've yet to get a level 2 charger installed so maybe that would change the equation some. But basically I go to work, maybe we go to the store for food or supplies or go to the park during the week and I'm almost exclusively running on electricity and then I get home and plug in. Typically the Jeep is charging at non peak hours later in the day and into the night so I think that helps in terms of being so cheap.
Haha, I mean 4xe isn't for everyone but it is for some. I've always loved the Willys and also the Jeep Wrangler in general so I get the love for the good old gas powered 7 slotted Jeep. Happy you have a good one. I'm a Jeep fantastic so I always get a kick at seeing everyone's Wrangler old or new, and how they enjoy them. Cheers mate! ✌️
