PG’s Perry Bean hung with guitarists Nick Hamm (above right), Ryland Oehlers, and bassist Eric Hamm before the band’s recent Nashville show at the War Memorial Auditorium where they opened up for Circa Survive and AFI. Eric and Ryland talk about switching to offset Fenders while Nick states his case why every bassist should have a Tech 21 SansAmp.
While recording and then performing Everybody is Going to Heaven, Nick primarily relied on a MIM Fender Tele, but since then he’s gravitated to this stock Fender Classic Player Jazzmaster. This was a favorite of producer Will Yip so you can hear on most of the tracks for the band’s upcoming album, As You Please.

Nick Hamm deserves more credit as a guitarist. When I saw Citizen live for the first time, I didn't know them. What won me over was the guitar part of 'The Night I Drove Alone'. Omg my heart was pounding. He is proof that you don't need speed picking, fancy licks or shredding to be an incredibly talented guitarist. His style is very original and he's gonna go really far.
a child could play that song. there is nothing original about it
@@savagehenry5158 its never been about how difficult it is to play
I love how everyone is hating on the interviewer for showing genuine interest and enthusiasm..
seriously, he had a lot of solid, educated questions to ask and not much time, it's excitement not rudeness and disregard for the interviewee.
He does kind of talk over the artists and try to finish their sentences which can be a little annoying
Every time I watch him do a RRD it almost strikes me like he's a non muso that read a book the day before entitled 'How to talk to musicians'
Everyone hates on Perry because he’s lucky enough to interview a bunch of his favorite bands and nerd out about gear so he’s always super stoked. No idea why people are salty about that outside of envy/jealousy because he seems like a really nice dude with a pretty solid taste in music.
damn. the homies made it to Rig Rundown. come a long way since the Young States EP
Never heard of this band until just now and I have since been listening to them all day. They rock for sure!!
Never heard of this band but I'm definitely going to check them out now. Thanks
Checkout their album "Youth"
Didn’t know these guys were so young. That’s awesome
what about a rundown for Remo Drive?? I've been wondering what they use!! Awesome band, love citizen too
I have that same American professional Jazzmaster and outside of the more strat sounding pickups those guitars are amazing. Nice to see a cool band such as citizen using them.
How did you know I needed this?!?!
@RIGRUNDOWNS pleaaasseeeee have a rig rundown of Sandy Alex G 👍🏻
Did he actually say "Woah! This is like....." as a complete sentence? Way to articulate. Where's the 'dude" guy when you need him? Love these Rig Rundowns and both the "Dude" and the "Woah" guy :-)
Im digging that other guy with the shaved head and big tattoos who looks like an MMA-fighter or something. Its all these different ridiculous interviewers now since Rebecca Dirks left.
An incredible and intelligent young band. They are unique and creative.
Perry Bean! One of the coolest dudes in Nashville.
solid stuff, as always, Perry
the entire band. "never had a jazz but wanted to try something new"
Those are some great songs, playing in the background.
Just when I thought June by Tigers Jaw was out of my head smh
?
SchizophrenicDolphinz he was in the video, probably filling in Citizen for someone
7ish minutes in
Do a rundown for Paramore!
Earthquaker Devices Did one!
dude.. nice.
those nikes were dope too
Great interview. Love this band. Great questions and conversation.
Does his pedalboard go tuner-chorus-delay-reverb THEN his distortions???
Yeah absolutely
Hey what's up guys, it's me, PC Principle with Premier Guitar!!
Citizen is dopa-dope. It's crazy to think of listening to younger kids.
Please do circa survive!
Stubnoob bro, amazing suggestion! 🙌🏼
Yeah...perry was extra coked up for this one ❤️ Rad band. Great rundown.
Yes he seems to be less coked out on newer ones. But I like when hes all wited and shit
didn't know this vid existed! Thanks so much!
Cool kids! Nice work Perry.
Could someone recommend a decent Telecaster (non CS) with six saddles as part of the bridge design? That black American Tele at 11:30 looks nice; is something similar still made?
What a great fender commercial. Brought to you by fender.
Nothing wrong with that lol
I hope this means Circa survive rig rundown is coming!!!
Stephen Naveed Unfortunately no, apparently they didn't have the time before the show to get Circa :(
Did you guys do Circa Survive after this?
Has anyone ever seen that first guitarist in the same room as Manchester Orchestra's guitarist? He may have everyone else fooled but hes not fooling me.
Perry needs to step down from caffeine, relax and take his time. Seems like he's running for his life..
We were running from the doors! The band was gracious enough to do this after doors opened and the fans were filling in. We literally filmed this, cleaned up the stage, and they rocked out not even 10 minutes later. Rad dudes!
fair enough
Premier Guitar yeah I was actually in the crowd watching y'all film this and I got so pumped and I've been waiting for you to upload this video!
Thanks for watching ... twice!
Leg kick stretching. sciatic nerve exercise.
This rundown makes me want to own a jaguar bass again.
Please do Basement! :)
Please do Balance and Composure.
beardedbear1002 they’re done
The Wonder Years Rig Rundown. Now.
Is Perry Straight Edge?!
Never heard of 'em, but they're pretty good.
Did I hear whole lotta love by Zepplin in the background at around 14:15
It was Ramble On (:
Sam Weaver Studios oh ok! Thanks,
Moby joined the band.
I just come to the comment section now for the Perry/cocaine jokes
is he really Perry's 'homie'?
Ben Lubin LMAO
8:10 thats june from tigers jaw!
I like how Nick says "at least" he and Mat were 17-18 when they recorded the first record. Aren't he and Eric the bass player Twins so wouldn't he be 17-18 too?
Wow! I know Ryland's sister. Lookin good guys!
Do a Rig Rundown of Monkey3 and SpaceSlug if you please
5 mins in and June by tigers jaw is playing in the background lol
Can you do a rig rundown of Slash from Guns N' Roses?
We tried but the band declined.
what a rush!!!
Need a new one for the 2021 record
Perry, stop interrupting/trying to finish the sentence of who you're interviewing, it's annoying.
Other than that, great job speeding through this before the show.
Looks like I didnt see anypedalboard.......
Rig rundown weezer please
nick ham looks like pharma brah
I love that they've got Zeppelin playing in the background
Hoping for a blink rig rundown
Not a fan of this interviewer. He keeps talking over everyone.... just saying
dude as a interviewer you let your guest talk but these days interviewer thinks he is more important then the one they interview. Way to go.
Stole the name. Original Citizen is from Houston.
Alex Vanroth This Citizen is better
the guitarist looks like michael skrelli. im not familiar with this band but i like what i heard in the intro. sounds like my cup of tea.
Dig the "No One Knows" playing in the background during the second guitarist interview! please interview QotSA again!
Yeah once they release that new album..
Having to go through life looking like Martin Shkreli like that, though :(
Thank you for not just doing the big bands.
I've been playing my MIM Tele for 15 years. It's a good guitar.
someone should do a statistic of how many times each pedal appears on every rig rundown video.
the boss tuner would be the champion by far..
(just when you thought that the internet has run out of ideas.. here's your moment of glory)
Where's circa survives rig rundown?
I really like PG's Rig Rundown and it is not personal or anything, but this interviewer really is a no! Please, stop interrupting, calm stop, breath! We are all here to listen to the player.
Haha is this PG host tweaking?
What's the song at the start
"Jet" off their latest album called 'As You Please'. Here is the video: ua-cam.com/video/l-9KBFvxKzE/v-deo.html
Do they get banged by the band's own copyright? Is that what happens with intos like that?
apparently so, so now I know Citizen are blockers
Dudes need to buy some more guitar stands lol
This is the way PG should be, let Perry do the young bands and keep John locked in a cage far far away.
gaot bumbu no I love John, he knows his shit
Playing the new Tigers Jaw over the PA
Sick band. Gotta go see them live at some point.
Where they playing along with a backing track? Or was the audio edited in post?
We added a little base of the recorded track because the captured live audio from the photo pit was a bit too unbalanced to run as is... you caught us! The band plays live and jams hard-no tracks necessary!
Premier Guitar what was the song??
"Jet" off their forthcoming album 'As You Please.'
....the bass amp is smoking....lolololol
I think these dudes are from my town.
Interviewer talks all over him lol but I think it’s just because he is nervous
the fender CLASSIC PLAYER stuff is really good designed by the custom shop and made in mexico. i have a 60"s CLASSIC PLAYER strat and it is KILLER! it has my favorite fender strat pickup's in it the CS 69 set.
FUCK YEAAAHHH THANKS FOR THIS. Love me some Citizen.
"Thanks for having me ahhh-uh-ohn". That was funny. Not sure what that was about.
I loved this rig rundown! Hope to see more pop punk bands in the future.
No way these guys don't listen to Nirvana haha
What year is that jcm800?
Damn big time now, citizen.
6:03 whats the song?
'I almost had a cow'
Good job Perry!
10:50 The Duo-Sonic came out before the Mustang. Theretofore, the Musicmaster came out before the Duo-Sonic. So in reality, its a throw back Musicmaster shape. Although for less well versed guitarologists, most presume this 'shape' was originally a mustang shape, when both the duo and musicmaster came out beforehand with the same body shape.
Dorks!
Fashion disaster alert.
Sheep alert. ^^^^
We need a breaking benjamin episode
do one of Sorority Noise!
Who??
Space is the forgotten frontier in todays rock music. All distorted down stroke chords and no nuance at all...you all seem to be following a formula...its old and outdated. Punk Rock groups in the 70's did it better.
Eamonn Shanahan it's what their into so what you care haha. You sound like a bonner. Play what gets you off.
Just move along eamonn, you're not their target audience, are you?
Get off my lawn!
Your right, they should be real punks and change what they like to play so people like you respect them...wait a second.
it´s rude to constantly interfer in someone elses sentences. Cool it down, Perry!
snutstrut I think they didn't have much time for this interview and he probably wanted to touch on a lot of different topics.
MrRyelou then they must be running out of time in every rig rundown where he is inteviewing. It is annoying every time...
snutstrut Well they started by saying they had to go quickly because they had no time and when they talk to the 2nd guitarist you hear doors opened. The fact the band was out willing to do interviews after doors is pretty cool of them
It doesn't change that Perry always interrupts almost everyone he interviews and try to finish their sentences...
This guy does this to everyone he interviews. Sometimes you can see hes irritating the person hes interviewing.
