When I had the opportunity to travel to Serbia, I jumped at the chance! I've always been fascinated in the country, but known very little about it. We were only in Belgrade (the capital) for three days, so took full advantage of our time here. You'll see from the vlog we tried to fit in as much as possible, from partying, to shooting, to Serbian lessons and eating!
Hope you like it guys, it was a lot of fun to film, but do let me know if you have any suggestions for future vlogs, places, things to see and improvements are always welcome!
A special thanks to Yana for helping us with our Serbian, showing us around and also introducing us to breakfast, Serbian style!

Hello, im from Norway and was in Serbia for 2 weeks a month ago. And i must admit, i’ve had only heard bad things about serbia and serbian people mostly because of the war. But i must say, none of it is true, Serbian people are really warm-hearted, friendly and overall good. And not the fake «i want you’re money so im acting nice» way. But for real. When we tried to tip the vaiters they refused to take it, and we gave money to a guy on the street who sold some lightning thingy handmade from copper. And when we game him over the price he said: No, give it to someone who needs it. And later when we traveled to another small town in the countryside, we lived at someones home because all the hotel’s was full. And they were so lovely old pair, the made us cake and tea, and was just so nice people. Overall Serbian people is not like other country’s. You are the real deal!

Why did you go in the first place if you had only heard bad things? The wars and dismantling of Yugoslavia were set up and planned by key NATO countries. The west wanted to break it up into little ethnically pure or divided and occupied weak statelets to be more easily absorbed into EU and NATO. Ethnic Serbs were 40% of Yugoslavia and many of them lived in the set-to-be broken off republics/territories. They had to be dealt with, and they or the Yugoslav army were the first attacked in all cases (with covert western backing and financing). Media muted what was happening to the ethnic Serbs. Post war censuses show the Serb population was the most ethnically cleansed - with ethnic Serb percentages dropping heavily in Croatia and Kosovo. In BiH, it was more of a land swap, between the 3 main ethnicities. The Bosnian Muslims ended up a higher percentage than before the war, the Serbs stayed the same, but the Bosnian Croats actually fell there. But most of it was due to the Croat-Muslim war where they turned against each other in the middle of the Bosnian war. They had some of the most intense fighting of that war - leaving Mostar the most destroyed city in all of BiH. Most of the destruction was done by Croat gunners onto the Muslim side of Mostar.
Meanwhile, the Bosnian Muslims devastated the Croat population of central BiH. The Croats claimed 100,000 Croats were cleansed from central Bosnia in the summer of 1993 only - and the Muslim-Croat war went from October 1992 to February 1994.

+Rustled Jimmies....You just explained why I first moved from the US to Portugal and after 10 years realized I had no real knowledge or understanding of Serbia, Yugoslavia, the Ottoman empire or eastern Europe so I packed up everything and moved to Serbia. An excellent move where the reason gets clearer every day.

+Jo Brock It was there for work mostly (that's why it was just two weeks). But i didn't work everyday so i had alot of time to visit the country and meet the people. And also im an adventurous person and don't always belive what everyone says before i've seen it with my own eyes. Of course i use common sense, but for me to judge a whole country like alot of people do about Serbia, so i wanted to see myself. And Serbia proved them wrong. So now when im back home and i hear someone talk bad about Serbia or serbs i ask them simply: Have you been there and experienced the country. Also thanks for information about the war. I haven't read so much about it.

I'm a croat from Zagreb and Belgrade is well worth visiting. A city with fantastic energy.and a unique, spectacular position on the very fault line of three great geographical and cultural regions. When standing on the Kalamegdan fortress mount you are in the Balkans and you can see central, habsburg europe to your left and eastern europe to the right, all delineated by two great rivers merging and holding.. party boats of all things! It is a tremendous concentration of energy, no wonder it's been a coveted strategic linchpin for thousands of years! And this energy can be clearly felt in the city and its inhabitants. Hello to my serbian brothers and ko nas bre zavadi!

It’s a great city, with lots of great restaurants, bars, parks etc. The people are seriously the nicest I’ve encountered anywhere in the world that I’ve traveled. I would definitely put Belgrade up against any of the western European, overpriced cities.

Kalemegdan park is amazing is it not ? The weapons you were confused about are displayed for a long time and are part of the army museum you missed, its just on the left up the stairs, you can visit it next time of course, around 2 pounds is the ticket if i am not mistaken. Clubbing is always running wild in Belgrade, during winter it moves from the river inside the city. Western City Gate is also known as Gazela. The history behind the building itself is fun, give it a read. Feeling safe is common is Serbia, the most common person will never have any issues or trouble, Serbians as a people are kind and helpful and would go out of there way to help you out if you are in a tight squeeze. The buildings you saw that are destroyed during the NATO bombing of Serbia, are left mostly due to lack of funds for reconstruction or any other development in place. The local's themselves view them as a reminder of the NATO aggression on the population of Serbia. Another thing I would recommend on your next visit to Serbia that you have to undertake focus on the freedom you left and leave the main city branch, go on the other side of the river check New Belgrade and all of its flashy things, go inside of Zemun and view the history that it holds. Many come to Serbia(Belgrade) and end up on extended stay due to the people, amount of locations, nightlife, general feeling of fulfillment within ones self. Best on your adventures and hope for the best :).. Thank you for making a video of such a lovely city, keep it up, do not let anything stop you from following your dreams; peace.

Just a small correction... Gazela is actually the name for the highway bridge (from the side it has roughly the shape of a jumping gazelle) not the Western Gate. The Western Gate is also known as the Genex Tower.

Hey Will, I just got your video in the recommended bar on the right hand side and I must say I watched the whole video from the beginning until the end.
I really enjoyed watching how you and Peter enjoyed yourself in Belgrade, especially since the weather was great. I can tell you that Belgrade is especially in the summer a very nice place to visit and you checked out a few of the main tourist attractions in Belgrade. One thing I can recommend you is surely, check out a few of the nice nightclubs along the river Sava, because they are situated on small boats and are called "splavovi". Other than that, check out things from the recent history, such as the blocks in New Belgrade and the Museum of Yugoslavia. Totally recommended by me.
Since I am a Serbian myself who was born and raised abroad, I really appreciate when people from countries like UK come to Serbia and enjoy their time in the capital of my country. I also made a few vlogs of a few trips I have made in Belgrade and in other places around Europe, so I'd be really happy if you can check out my stuff too. I am sure you'll love it! I left you a like and a sub. Keep up with the great stuff and I really can't wait to watch some of your other videos and I hope you are going to visit Belgrade again as soon as possible! 😄

Hey! I'm a bit late on this video but I really felt like I needed to share how thankful I was for this video :) It was really relaxing to watch, and it truly gave an overview of our capital. It's very rare to see videos on Serbia, as foreigners usually avoid it and go for Croatia or other EU countries. And even those videos that are about Belgrade don't really show the "real" city/country. You included the museums, touristy places, nightlife AND the ruins from the bombing (which is mostly just skipped - a shame since it really is a big part of what constructs our national morale).
In conclusion, thanks for this amazing video! I'll be sure to check out your other videos as well. Lastly - hope you had a great time and we can't wait to welcome you to our country again! :)

I've seen that you've been walking near Tasmajdan (the park near St Mark's church), have you explored it? Today it's beautiful park with pools, concert stadium, restaurants etc, but back in the days it was a mine (Tašmajdan means mine in turkish), one of the first cementeries(starting in 3rd decade of 18th century,it is moved to another location later),and there is natural cave 13 million years old wich served as a shelter from turkish and austro-hungarian canons in 19th century, in WW 2 it was a base for Alexander fon Ler, a german general and his soldiers. The cave itself is not fully explored, but there are rumors that you can get in every part of city trough hidden passages(same as Kalemegdan), i heard that one of them leads to Bajloni's market. That is one small piece, if you will you can find, learn and see much more if you come back, the cave is open for tourists since 2018 i think :)
    Greetings from Belgrade ❤️

Visitors often get the two rivers mixed up. The reason is most of the tourist areas are based on the centre of the old town which is on the Sava River so they mistake it for the Danube as its also a big river at this point .With the huge development of the waterfront things will gravitate even more to the banks of the Sava as this area was underdeveloped for such a strategic and scenic location . The summer night scene is the only time tourists will be on the banks of the Danube and then it will be the younger ones because the majority of the floating barge nightclubs (Splavovi) are located on the Danube but that's a long walk from the old town so most people get a taxi there. I'm from the UK and have been to Belgrade a few times and one thing thats different is unlike our Pubs and clubs where people mix freely and for example you can talk to someone you don't know while stood at a bar over there many people reserve a table and stay with their own little groups all night and dance at their tables and its mainly waiter service. Having a local guide is crucial as the hotspots and trendy places are changing all the time according to fashion .If you just wander around you will never find the liveliest places are they are often not on the tourist trails .
