The only video I’ve seen with useful information. Great job.
i was wondering which to get for my place and this was really informative. Thank you for testing!
Great video! Love our AC!
Spectacular review. My favorite part was the db measurements.
Thnak you for the useful info Anthny
Thanks. Very useful info
Thanks for the information. This makes my decision much easier!
Thank you for the informative video! I want to try installing the window unit in a tent. Keep up the good work!
Amazing Video!
You are everything I was looking for ❤️ thank you lol
Thx for the review. The first one is super loud on high! :-O
Very helpful considering blowing fuses is a big concern so I'll be getting a window unit now. Thanks!
Still love our Frigidaire!
THANK YOU
Great video. Do they make them window units for horizontallysliding windows?
Very informative and good testing. Wall unit looks like the winner. You have enough a/c to make your house like the North Pole? Maybe time for a giveaway?
I just want to make a small observation, regarding the portable air conditioners and I have seen an improvement if it is placed in a higher area than having it at low levels close to the ground, and the other is to place an insulation sleeve on the hose that goes out , there is a noticeable difference in terms of efficiency.
True about the radiant barrier sleeve and window for portable AC unit. At least 20-25 degrees cooler from the exhaust.
I have an issue: I live in a condo and downstairs there’s only a sliding patio door. Or the sliding windows only one can come out it looks like only one of them comes out only so there’s only a width of 14inches.
So my option is put the ac on the ground and buy some foam insulation and build a massive blocker and lose some access to my outside patio (I’m on the second floor). Or find an AC unit that blows out the right. Mount the AC outside the window so it’ll be partly sucking in my living room air partly the hot summer air and seal it well.
Any thoughts?
the reason for the portables running the plug temp up is the molded plug on your appliance extension cord. the gfci on all of them provides a far better internal connection and doesnt heat up, the fridgidare uses the same amount of power as the whynter as they are the same capacity.
Thanks
Nothing beats a window unit for price and cooling..And you can take a window unit to anybody for cleaning and repair..
Very nice and informative. Window ac is just plain better. Still wish it didn't hang out the Window lol 😂.
I know what I need to do. My central heating and air went out, naturally on a Saturday night and I need window units to keep my aging parent that I need to take care, safely cool until the main system is fixed.
So just to clarify and provide some educational info as an A/C tech, the thermostat on a portable A/C is not a temperature gauge it does not control how cold the unit blows. This actually goes for any A/C if you set the thermostat on a central HVAC system to 65⁰ that's not going to make it blow 65⁰ all the thermostat does is turn the unit off when the desired temperature is reached (or in the case of portable A/C systems the thermostat turns the compressor off once the desired temperature is reached. And the BTU rating of an A/C is not just a measure of how cold the A/C blows, if you get an A/C that provides more BTU's of cooling than the room requires it will short cycle and not cool the room at all
The Frigidaire blows them all away !
window unit for me for my rv, i have 2 top units and 1 went out... got a window unit in the rear that nobody can see and it works awesome in this texas heat. i had a portable unit but didnt like the vent heat, window unit for the win for me plus it was a cheap install, rv acs are expensive and annoying to work on and they are loud, my 10000 btu lg cant even hear it running

Next level up is a ice bath.
Thats because of humidity, it's hard to cool a humid room.
I see the ugly winter unit. Bought one because it claims to put out15,000 btu. That would do very well for my living room. It never cooled much at all, had the hoses connected and placed in the window as it’s supposed to be. Thought the unit was faulty so I returned it for an exchange. No difference. Took the unit to get it checked, found out these are way way over rated, tech told me there’s only enough coil for 5,000 btu s. After a year I ended up putting it out by the trash. Put my 10,000 btu window unit back in. Never again do I want another portable.
Dual hose would have been a more fair comparison.
116 at our house today
@12:19 - my new 9000btu portable AC vent temp is at 49F in a 79F room (fan on max). It draws ~1000 watts with the fan motor at max ( ~200 watts for the fan alone). A very good show and tell. Even better if you include room size and power draws for the units. For a lot of people, the 8000btu unit will be fine. For some, the window unit is a must. Note that most portable ac units are not designed to work in 88F and higher.
My room temperature is 35°C, humidity here are so high
your tests are totally invalid for several reasons. First.....the portable units are rated in BTU'd ASHRAE, and BTU's DOE/SACC.....TRUE BTU's of a portable unit are its DOE/SACC btu rating which is 50% to 85% of its ASHRAE rating. the ASHRAE Ratings is USELESS in a portable AC. the biggest portable AC you tested is around 9500BTU's DOE/SACC, thereas your window unit is 15000BTU's!, so hell yes it will beat the portable units becouse your 3 portable units have a BTU rating of 5000 to 9500 DOE/SACC. go get a 9500BTU window unit and compare it to your best whynter portable AC you have there. THAN you will have a fair test. are portable units as energy efficent as window units? NO!, but they have other advantages over window units. they can be moves easily from room to room and can be set up in 5-10 minutes. and BOTH window units and portable units are FAR FAR cheaper than a central unit. Im cooling my house with 3 $300 window units OR three $450 portable units as I have now.....a central air system costs $7000-$12,000 and thats AFTER you already have a pre existing duct system.
Well yeah that's the point Window AC's are way more efficient
the inefficiency of portable units is why the SACC ratings exist, especially for single hose units that suck the air you're trying to cool and blow it outside
