I'll say the asgard beam weapons are unfair, stargate ships operate at a tiny fraction the power levels of Trek ships. The benchmark we have is the beliskner class which for a long time was one of the most powerful ships in the universe, and going by numbers from Nemesis and True Q, only generates about 1/3200th the power that a galaxy class does. Shields and energy weapons tend to follow power generation. Sure the O'Neill may be 3-4 times as powerful as the older beliskner, but it'll still be horribly outclassed by just about anything from the star trek universe. Ori ships again may be several times as powerful as an O'Neill, and getting into the range where they can start to tickle the shields of a federation ship, but they'd never survive the return phaser fire.
Sure stargate has some powerful single weapons like gate buster nukes, but even these are hugely exaggerated in the fandom. Some tried to say it was equivalent to 800+ gigatons(others pegging it at 45 teratons), which even if it were an antimatter bombe and every gram of the device were converted to energy would require it to weigh about 40 tons. Let alone the fact that it was designed specifically to destroy a gate and such a weapon would be massive overkill for that task. Also a gate (mostly refined naquadah) weighs 29 tons and even that overloaded and chain reacting the naquadah only yields 2-3 gigatons according to Carter, yet somehow people expect a little nuke a fraction the size and weight of the gate with probably well under 1% the naquadah will be many many times as powerful. And don't even get me started on the star system destroying ZPM's that failed to even destroy a planet right beneath them when 3 were overloaded at the same time.
Alright, I'm done geeking out. Bottom line, per the numbers given, stargate is weak sauce next to trek, even though I love both. I love mass effect too but even the reapers are using pea shooters.

This has been done over and over again. Startrek is not more powerfull than stargate. They are just not. I dont understand how you think it would be any different. The goauld were flying about in technology reverse engineered from ancient technology, technology from a species that at that point in time was already crossing galaxies and creating stargates - thousands of years before starfleet was a thing. Startrek uses lasers. Phasers are fancy lasers. And what are photon torpedoes? Anti matter warheads, but still war heads that can be shot down. I'm struggling to figure out why none of the ancient species in stargate never used anti matter???? I means jesus the ancients were on the verge of extracting vacuum energy, yet they ignored or couldnt create antimatter, especially when they had basically mastered and explored every dimension and aspect of science this plane has to offer? Nor the asgard or anyone else. Nope, antimatter torpedoes and fancy lasers were the way to go. Yet none of the species in trek can get out their own quadrant of their galaxy in any meaningful time using their natural technology, even in the 31st century, yet they somehow have this scientific and power advantage over even the goauld, who's hataks before upgraded could cross the galaxy in a few months.
The truth is this. The 304 WITHOUT the beams would beat the toughest fleet ships. The rail guns on the 304 were created by the asgard (as stated in the tv show) and it shows with their rate of fire etc, (you would just need to look up how much energy it would require to fire rail guns like that today, and ALL of the technology needed to make them work and feed them ammo) they were able to fight hataks, and in any reality a hatak would simply steamroll any fleet ship and smoke a Borg cube. Hataks weapons and shields automatically cycle through frequencies, their energy baced plasma weapons have bolts that could encompass the original enterprise in their size. It would be like the enterprise getting hit with an ori beam. Their impulse engines give them much better manouverability with 12 plasma canons for 360 fire in battle. They can survive for hours near the surface of a blue giant before their shields show any type strain not to mention no I'll effects from radiation happened to anyone on board. And hataks are seen as the "weak" ships in stargate because they get one shoted by ships with either asgard tech or ancient level tech of the ori. Before her upgrades the 303 and 304s biggest advantage over hataks were their shields. The rail gins were effective but not like the plasma bolts of the hataks.
People keep saying the asgard weapons and shields are op. Yes from a much younger races standpoint. They are from a race millions of years more advanced who have spent that time refining those weapons and systems. That's one of the reasons the asgard created the rail guns for us. As humans projectiles are what we call an advanced weapon. We have a handle on everything to do with them, from research to manufacture. We have hundreds of years in advancement of them. Giving us plasma weaponry at that time would have hindered more than helped, we have a supply and manufacture train to be able to produce all the parts necessary and the means to maintain them more efficiently than a vastly superior but not understood technology. But their design showed with how powerfull they were, taking anything we are capable of now or maybe for even a thousand years and making it work effortlessly (seriously research macs, their energy consumption and the problems faced). This is what power and advancement is, being able to cross over 3 million light years in a couple of days. Have a ship that can recharge inside of stars and is half way across the known universe and still going, doing a better job protecting itself and its systems than before a younger race started interfering. The goauld were genetically trying to create an advanced human host, could monitor their fleets across the galaxy in real time. Startrek was created with the premise that we'd all be flying about in hover cars and have moon bases by now, yet here we are. Stargate to me shows a "better" representation of advancement and time.........and technology.
@@nihilityjoey Sorry bud, but Atlantis is supposed to have the most powerful shield in the franchise, yet when they collapsed it around an exploding stargate(2-3 gigatons per Redemption) it could barely contain it before collapsing. Phasers aren't "fancy lasers", they're particle weapons, and exceptionally powerful. A small hand phaser a fraction the size of a staff weapons is said to be able to take down half a large building at maximum(Frame of Mind).
Photon torpedoes have a canon loadout of 1.5kg of matter and 1.5kg of antimatter. We know that reaction would work out to about a 64 megaton blast, and quantum torpedoes are said to be about 3x as powerful, ergo it would only take about 10 to 16 quantums to collapse Atlantis shield, while it could hold out against entire wraith fleets, which therefore must have far weaker weapons.
It's simple math.
