My Father passed away a week ago and my Mother has given me his Braun Series 9. I've spent the last day cleaning it and thought to myself, "I really need to clean it"...this is the perfect teardown and rebuild guide that has helped me bring his shaver back to life and give me a great memory of my Dad. Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing and sorry for your loss.. stay strong!
Even though it’s been some time now, I’m really sorry for your loss. Hope you and your family are doing alright. Glad you have a nice memento of your dad and hopefully you’ll keep it forever.
Thanks a lot, I was able to replace my broken motor and fix my series 9. So excited and happy. Saved $130 :)
Very helpful. Perfect and detailed. I managed to replace the battery of my shaver thanks to your video. Thank you!
Thanks, I needed to replace the power button on my Series 8 and this video was great!
Big thanks for the video! With the instructions I was able to get my shaver working again. My shaver’s shaving head started to have problems and I replaced it with a new one from Amazon. Works like a brand new shaver.
Thank you for enabling me to repair my S9. The power button came off and and this video showed me how to replace the assembly. Excellent how-to video presented in a calm, reassuring manner. Thanks again.
One of the best help videos I've used. GREAT!
I fixed my razor thanks to you!
Thanks a lot!
was able to replace my series 9's power button because of your excellent instructions. thank you!
Thanks! dropped my shaver and the trimmer popped off your video saved me from buying a new one! thank you!
Used this video to help guide me replace the trimmer on my series 9, thank you!
Lost the on/off button on the shaver so I needed to replace the whole front cover. This video made it possible for me to do it myself. Thanks for the detailed instruction in this great video!
Thanks so much for making this very instructional video. It allowed me to replace the drive motor with zero issues.
Super! Device is made really user friendly for DIY. And thanks for the feedback!
My Braun series 9 has deveoped a really bad smell lately. Very musty. Thanks to your guide I managed to clean it throroughly and hopefully, eliminate the odour.
Thank you.
Very complete video that helped me to change the motor without any issue.
Needed to replace a broken button on my Series 9 (92s) and your video was the solution. My razor is like new again thanks to you. I’m extremely grateful to you for putting this video together. Keep up the wonderful tutorials. 👍🏼👏🏼
You are welcome! glad it was useful!
Thank you very much for this video. I bought a new trimmer but I was unable to replace it. Now it's done.
Thanks for the Video. Mine had water ingress and was not working. I cleaned it and it works now. I am very impressed by Braun, they build it to be serviceable which is rare these days. I will definitely buy Braun again.
Exactly! And people should know how much repairable some of the stuff is.. some are really easy to repair some are more difficult but they are good repairable things..
Brilliant, brilliant - Such a great, clearly explained video.
Many thanks......all the way from London !
Thanks! Helped me build the courage to break lose the trimmer and clean. Fully packed with hair. Works fine again.
Glad to hear it! And very happy that it was a successful repair! Hope it will encourage you for a future repairs.
Thank you for the excellent tutorial. I had to replace the on/off button and this video was invaluable.
Thanks for your video. My series 9 was failing - blue lock light - so using your video as a guide I stripped mine down to the chassis and found a filthy mess of old whiskers and possibly moisture. I did not start popping off clips, I just cleaned it thoroughly and now it starts and remains working, although blue lock light comes on occasionally. Anyway I’m happier now than I was thanks to you
If you suspect moisture I would suggest to pop the clips and inspect inside.. if water got inside it is very difficult for it to get out..
Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙂 ... I can't thank you enough. Your instructions are perfect. It definitely solved my problem ....👍
Thank you for the clear and informative video 👍
Super helpful video; thank you so much for your time in putting it together! Helped me replace the head assembly and saved me lots of money!
Thanks 👍 glad it was helpful
Kurt thanks for your donation!! That's my first donated 🥃, nice feeling, thanks 👍
Where did you purchase the head assembly from?
Many thanks for the video, repaired mine yesterday with your help!
Thanks and glad it was helpful :)
After seeing your video, I ordered a new head, followed your instructions and, in doing so, restored my Series 9 to "as-new" condition. No more vibration and noise just a clean smooth shave. Enjoyed your video and appreciate your patient and thorough demonstration with the more delicate parts. Well done sir! Thank you very much!
Nice! I'm always happy to hear these decided to give it a shot! Usually ships repairs are not that difficult and get expensive when you include hours of repair guy but if you take the project as DIY it's always a win! Nice job and thanks for sharing!
Exact same comment from me.
Very easy to follow, thank you very much!
Super useful video, I’ve changed the drive unit in less than half an hour, thanks a lot!
It’s actually easier to tear this razor down and reassemble it following your video, than finding and purchasing spare parts from Braun 😂
Yea hopefully right to repair gets through and spare parts will be easier to get :)) and thanks for the Feedback ;)
Same comment as others - super helpful video! Thank you so much for putting this out here...
Yup, just what I needed. New motor from the net $50. The two little covers at the top were a little scary, but... got it! Thanks so much, excellent vid!
Thanks for the feedback and glad it was helpful :)
Very helpful video thank you man!
Thanks for the Video!! Got the replacement motor and following your instructions it went together good.
I also purchased the small ROUND screwdriver as well! That came in handy also.. The new head comes with a new gasket. So when you go to put in the new head it is stiff to insert. I used a small amount of Vaseline on the gasket to reduce the friction.
For me you need to press in the new head and at the same time secure the 2 screws that hold it in. As long as you have some manual dexterity it will work fine..
I would recommend you watch the "Entire" video a few time's, then take it apart step by step starting and stopping the video as you move through the process. Keep all the removed parts in order as you disassemble the unit, that helps and have a lot of good lighting as well..
The process took me about 45 minutes..
Robert
Great advice. Do you have a good source you can recommend to get the new head and gasket from?
Excellent video, thank you, sir.
Thanks so much. Wouldn’t have managed without video. Small side pieces n springs on head mechanism n beard trimmer bit tricky. Great video.
Super helpful - THANK YOU!
Perfect thank , my razor now works again after replacingthe drive unit, thanks to you , cheers
Great work! Mind asking where did you got the new drive unit?
Big thanks for the video! 😀
Thanks a lot for this tutorial. Fixed a new electronic board for 35EUR !
Good job :)
Where did you got the board?
great video, great explanation, thank you!
You are a life saver! Thank you!
Thank you so much. Awesome job.
Nice and satisfactory !!
Thanks to your video I was able to replace the circuit board in my razor! Much better than spending $300.00 to buy a new razor. Thanks again!
Good job 👍 it's always a nice feeling to fix and save on the plastic thrash pile especially when the unit is build to repair, no glued parts all on screws:)
Thank you totally saved my life. My shaver dropped and the trimmer came off. I managed to get it fitted back after watching your tutorial
Hi Kelvin, Would please inform how did you manage fit back (assemble) the 2 trimmers in the head of Braun 9995cc. Receiving detailed information is highly appreciate it.
Thx
@@mohamdi4964 For me I just followed the instructions to remove the outer body of shaver and follow the same instructions to assemble the trimmer back. It will take a while, you need to pay attention to how the trimmer is removed to get a better understanding how to put it back. I hope this helps.
@@kwongheng Thanks. My shaver dropped and the two inside trimmers came off out of the head. The video did not show how to fit them back into the shaver head. I tried so many time with no successes . The two inside-trimmers are not strong enough to stay on the head when I run the shaver. Any idea to fix them back.
Thanks much
@@mohamdi4964 Not too sure what you mean by 2 inside trimmers because I can only see one. My problem was the center trimmer came off. if you have more stuff broken, I am not too sure how to help. I would suggest that you disassemble the whole shaver like in the video and put it back. As for the trimmer, the most difficult is to get the position of the spring correct, it took me awhile, but once you figure out where the spring should be then it becomes easier to fix.
Thanks very much for doing this video! My S9 shaver was not holding charge (only 1 shave then needed charging). I got a replacement battery and followed your guide. Problem solved for £12 and less than 10 mins to change it.
Gald it was helpful! And thanks for your feedback!
Excellent tutorial showing how to tear down & reassemble a series 9 razor. The battery on mine no longer holds a charge as long as it used to & I'm preparing ahead of time to see how to replace it. Your video will make the procedure much easier when the time comes to replace the battery. Thank you!
Good planing and thanks for the feedback!
@@letsfixitgarage where did you get replacement batteries??? Thanks for help, the video was OMG amazing!!! THANKS!!
Thank :) I use eBay for spare parts you can try contacting your local Braun representative as well.
Merry chrismast ! welldone thnaks a lot!
Thanks so much for posting this fantastic video! I managed to drop my razor and break a part in the head assembly. Bought a new motor part for it and, using your guide, got it working again. Much appreciated!
Very useful video - Thank you very much
Your welcome! Glad it was helpful :)
Super detailled - Thanks
help me well to replace the battery; be careful to adjust electric contacts after the removal of battery block
screws are torx T8
Thanks, that was really helpful.
Thank you for you support! Really appreciate it 👍
Great video, saved me buying a new razor! Just ordered a new drive unit and back to like-new.
Great! Where did you order the new drive unit?
@@letsfixitgarage Amazon.
Great video thank's
Thank you !!!
Thank you😁made acc. to your tutorial💪
My series 9 kept turning off after a few seconds of use, so I figured the battery was dead. I was originally going to have it serviced, since I figured the insides would be like a smartphone (i.e the seal gets destroyed when you open it and it's almost impossible to correctly position a replacement seal) but your video showed that it's actually pretty simple! I ordered a new battery, opened up my shaver, popped in the replacement battery and now it's back in action! I also cleaned it while I was in there, somehow the insides had gotten FULL of beard trimmings! Thanks for your video!
This is exactly what's happening to mine now. What's the model of the battery? Will order and change it following these instructions! thank you!
@@af-rd5709 At first, I used a substitute battery, but the same problem eventually returned. I then ordered a genuine Braun battery that was an exact replacement for my shaver. Same as before, it worked at first, but then the battery started dying after a few seconds. In the end, I just ordered a new shaver :(
@@fireaza Thank you very much for your response! Let's hope that a substitute battery suffices :D
As I always like to say batteries are quite reliable these days. If it keeps dying then you have some other problem.. maybe there is a small shorting on the board that keeps draining the battery.. but they are quite hard to find sadly .
Remove the battery from shaver charge it and leave without connection on table if it keeps its charge for a week or so the problem is elsewhere..
You always do food work brother.
I just saw your Braun 760 video and just replaced my battery yesterday, wow was that easy compared to a Braun 8585 that has batteries soldered in.
This should get me ready when I purchase the 9 series, as the 9 has a bigger head and would probably be better for head shaving.
Thanks for sharing 👊👍
Thanks for a good word :)
I found the series 9 better but not that much and keep in mind that series 9 has this flaw that after some time the shawing head becomes loud/loose, series 7 is a little bit more reliable I would say.. but do try it out, both are very good!
Brilliant thanks.
Thanks for such an easy to follow guide - I really wish I'd watched it all the way through though instead of disassembling step by step as I watched because it would have saved me a lot of trouble to discover that the trimmer just pops off :)
Anyway, I discovered a lot of extra trapped hair by disassembling it so it wasn't a waste of time.
Glad it helped and thanks for your feedback :)
Nice tutorial
Please can you help me my 9 not working
Very Helpful! Thanks!
Thank you so much my friend! I wouldn't be able to replace my battery if it wasn't for you.
Glad it was helpful :)
Would have broken pieces without your instructions. Thank you!
I bought the shaver a year and a half ago. In the month of April this year, the device started turning on by itself and I took it to an authorized Braun service center. After a few days I was sent photos of the disassembled shaver showing the mechanisms and circuit board covered in mold and moisture. I was told that the shaver was working normally and was issued without repair. I was advised not to use it for wet shaving and not to rinse with water, which surprised me greatly.
Yes official service can be quite a bummer.. can't comment on other jobs but I believe majority of series 9 is water proof.. you could check according to your shaver type number is it waterproof and then confront them...
Thanks i have a slightly different model but dropped it and the trimmer popped off. your guide helped me understand how to fix it and where that damn little spring went lol. Thank you
Thanks for nice word and the tip 👍 first from Canada :) greetings from Lithuania!
Merci
Like your plastic screw install trick.
Insert the screw
Back out screw till you hear a click
Slowly screw in screw.
Prevents screw cross thread and damage to plastic threads.
Video is the best I have seen in years.
You could sell USB or Micro SD video of repair. 100,000 repair chips @ $5 each is $500,000 profit. Nice little nest egg.
Thanks it's a tip I learned from my father :) kind of obvious when you learn it and super helpful when you need to open something up multiple times.. yeah not all repairs are one time fixes ;) and what do you mean with usb and microSD repairs?
Which screw drivers do i need
I forgot to say you that is a Braun type 5791. Thaks again.
Great video thanks
Have you got a video on taking the main head apart with the springs and clips inside my son decided to take it apart to clean it for me now I have a bowl full of parts 😳
I tried once, don't want to do it any time soon :) I don't have this video but it exists in UA-cam. Long and difficult process. Try to look it up if it will be to difficult you can order a whole head as replacement at Braun. Whole head replacement is an easy repair
Nicely done. It helped me do the front body housing. For a small appliance, it appears to have the complexity of a nuclear reactor.
The smaller a smart device is the more creativity designer has to implement :) thanks for a good word!
Thanks. Helped me to take care lock assembly. Any idea where to own the tach switch. It kept on and off itself
Sorry don't understand what you need..
Thank you for the detailed tutorial!
The long hair trimmer on my S9 Pro broke. Can you share where you order parts from please?
If I can get the parts, using your tutorial, I should be able to repair it myself
Thanks
I usually get them through ebay, but try contacting Braun representative or a service center. saw in comments that in some countries they offer some spare parts for the s9
Does the head come apart for cleaning?
It's possible but very difficult to assemble it back. There is a UA-cam video regarding this process, not from me, but don't recall any info on it... I would just use compressed air to blow everything through..
Tengo una placa base rota de una afeitadora S9 Pro, si compro una placa base de una afeitadora S9 seria compatible? Es decir, es compatible la placa base de una 9 con una 9 pro?
How do you take apart the actual head/cassette components themselves?
Tried one time have not succeeded.. very delicate work, but I saw video on UA-cam where someone took it apart and reasembled successfuly.. so it is possible..
Thanks for this great video. Very helpful and reassuring to see it done before attempting by oneself.
I take great care of my Series 9 and am very gentle with it. I always clean regularly on schedule, but recently began experiencing that noisy head. I have replaced the cassette and still get the noise and when I hold the head by hand and put pressure while shaver is on, the noise is gone so I know it is the vibration from the swivel contact points which you mentioned. Is there any way to repair instead of replacing? Perhaps filling in with some material to make the swiveling parts tighter and less room for vibration? Thank you.
I have not attempted to do that.. additionally as said in video it is not an easy task to disassemble the head. I saw few videos here on UA-cam instructing how to do it but it's very precise and time consuming job. Have not attempted it. Would advise to look for these videos before attempting to do it by yourself:) apart from that I think it would be doable to fill the hole with liquid plastic or something else and redo a little hole.. difficult to say how long it will hold and why in some cases original material fails..
Thanks a lot. Very helpful. I can shave again with less noise :)
glad it was helpful :)
Hi, Thanks for helping me out with the battery the last time. My shaver head motor either died or something plastic broke, when I turn it on the motor does not kick in, but if i move the head up in down it wants to power up but sounds weird. Are they worth fixing? Is it an easy fix? Thanks for your reply.
Difficult to say. I saw comments under this video that it's possible to order the whole motor head at Braun. It's easy to exchange the whole motor unit. If it's mechanical defect and electronics are ok it's worth a try. I would not recommend tearing it apart and repairing it, very difficult process. But if you want to try there are videos on UA-cam how it's done.
@@letsfixitgarage I ordered another one "790cc" , So I might send the broken one "760cc" to Braun might be worth fixing to have a spare one. I use them to shave my head, so it might be worth it if one breaks down. Thanks for the info.
I bought two of these, BOTH had the on/off button fall off. I am extremely careful with my stuff so these must have a design flaw. One fell off around 9 moths and the other fell off around 15 months. I only shave twice per week so these don't even get used much.
Could be, as the button legs that hold it in place are tiny... Accordingly small defect in plastic extrusion could have huge impact on longevity..
Can you please let me know what battery do I need for this charger as it has to be replaced. Thank you in advance
Sorry don't have any direct link.
Hey, so I blew my power button off using an air compressor trying to clean it and now I turn them on using my scissors by touching the metal contacts. Do you have any spare parts for these shavers?
Which model do you have? Maybe I can find something. Write me letsfixitgarage@gmail.com
Great video. Any chance to make a video to show how to replace the battery for series 5? Thanks
Thanks, sorry but I don't have a series 5 on my hands..
HI! I have the Braun series 8 . The swith on/off broke. How do I replace?
you mean the button cover? it has small hooks that if broken will lead to the button not staying in place. only fix is to replace it with new one.
Please post another video on disassembling the head assembly. :)
Tried it, don't want to do it :))) but I saw a video here on UA-cam. So it should be possible. But very very difficult and precise job....
Where do you get replacement parts for the Braun series 9 at?
Try contacting Braun. I think they were offering some spare parts..
Enjoyed video. I was really impressed by removal and install of the trimmer. My question is can an ‘S’ shaver be made into a ‘CC’ that will work with a clean and charge stand
Not sure, I think for that you would need an CC motherboard :/
Where would I be able to get a series9 cc motherboard?
Sorry no idea.. either Braun or eBay I would say.. not sure if Braun sells it as spare part..
I has a 7 series machine and it is loud and I did not see how to make it low. Thanks
Series 9 is known to having loud drive problem. Sorry haven't experienced this problem with series 7
Hi, can you do a teardown/assembly of the shaving head? I pulled mine apart and....its complicated!
:) well as said in video: teardown - yes, assembly - no :) as you said it's very complicated.. I haven't managed to assembly it after taking it apart, to many springs... :)
Hi .. thank you for this video. My trimmer series 9 goes to “lock mode” just after few seconds of shaving. If I understand the lock mode can be turned on by holding the power off/on for couple of seconds. It automatically goes to lock mode not sure why. The weird thing - I cannot unlock it easily. Have to try maybe for good 10-15min of holding random power on/off motion then it will start. But again it go back to lock mode in few seconds use.
Any idea - which part I need to replace?
Disassemble it up to the motherboard and inspect the button maybe some water got inside or the button got damaged..
My Series 9 exhibited the same characteristics you describe. Using this video as a guide I stripped mine down to the main chassis with all covers removed. Mine was filthy, chock-full of whiskers, bonded together in a semi solid chunk of filth. I brushed and blew mine clean, used some isopropyl and left it to dry. Now it’s better. Lock light comes on intermittently but once shaver starts, it remains on until I switch it off. I’m hoping the problem is moisture, and I’m hoping I got it
Thank you for your tutorial. THE ELECTRONIC MODULE OF MY BRAUN Serie 9 is down. The modules on the market that I find are unscheduled. Where do you find the Programmed modules. Thank you very much.
Would suggest to look on eBay for defect model. Or contact Braun for replacement..
Do you think the black motor might be sturdier? Bought a used series 9 with the plastic damaged in the head of the motor like you show. Perhaps it could be possible to only buy the plastic part to save money?
as far as i heard braun is selling the whole motor as replacement. if you want to save money do look in youtube for a video that shows this procedure. its not an easy one..
Hello, I would like you to disassemble the complete head of the Braun series 7 shaver
greetings from Argentina
Sorry will not do :) tried once still have all parts in bag.. but do search UA-cam I saw one video where it was performed but it's very delicate work..
Hi. My series 9 is only a few months old. When I fully charge it. Then I use the trimmer it turns off after about 10 minutes of use. As if the battery is dead. Recharge it again. I can use again for 10 minutes. Would the battery 🔋 have died after a few months use? Thanks in advance
Warranty should be still ok. I think easiest approach would be hand it over for replacement.. this is quite strange behaviour, haven't experienced it..
Thank you for a good video on the Braun 9 series and a good UA-cam channel. Where did you get hold of the light blue tray you use as underlay when you fix the appliances?
You get it for free!.. when you buy pretty expensive microscope.. or at least that's how I got it :) you can just search for silicone soldering mat and I believe you will get a lot of results! And thanks for a good word on the channel content ;)
Thank you it was very helpful! What is the name of your electric drill that you used?
its called Wowstick on aliexpress if I recall it correctly..
Hi, with my series 9 the middle parts of the cutting head, between the foil cutters, keep falling out after a few months. Is that going to be an issue with the razor? It’s happened twice now after nearly a year with both heads. Do I need to replace the entire shaving head and motor assembly?
if it repeats them most likely problem is in the head not the shaving foil... additionally you could try and contact Braun maybe they will offer you the part as good will. as it is quite strange defect..
@@letsfixitgarage I thought it may be the head and not the cartridge so bought a new Series 9 Pro. The head on it feels a lot more solid then on my old S9. I got fed up of growing a beard lol. The cartridge is around £45 and a new razor is £260 ish on the current sale, so I went with a new razor.
Just watched this video. Do you have a fix for my issue? The razor won't turn on. The lock light comes on and I press and hold it for 3 to 5 seconds and it turns on for a short time then turns off. Then the lock light comes on again. Not sure why.
Don't have a concrete fix but I would take it apart inspect for water damage, check the button with Multimeter maybe it's shorting. Additionally taking out battery would make a reset for the board.. hope something will help..
Hi! I would like to know if I should follow your steps for battery change or it is an easier (quicker) way to replace them?
No other way. To change the battery you need to open it up completely. But when you take it apart exchange is very straightforward.
@@letsfixitgarageThank you very much, sir. I appreciate it.
