  • How to replace tubes in a Mesa Boogie V-Twin V-2 preamp pedal.
It mounts a pair of 12ax7-A Mesa tubes, and I changed it by a pair of TAD 12ax7 tubes. Not much difference between them, but a little bit more mid focused tone. [I hope]

Could you do one where you show the solo channel for metal rythms, people tend to think it is too fuzzy or not enough high gain for metal and heavy rock but I had one and when the gain is at half it is tight and very potential for, metal, just to show maybe? Thanks

Hi mate. Actually, I have no time to spend in more videos like this. Maybe next months.
I can tell you about it's high gain capabilities. I know by my own experience, Mesa Booogie V-Twin V2 can sound between mid and high gain ranges in it's factory setup (I mean, with 12aX7 Mesa Boogie tubes). But I'm shure you can improve this amount of gain only with a model tube change (and brand). This video shows 2 brands of tubes (same model of TAD and Mesa tubes) working on the same unit (Also, every unit is particularly different. It was made by hand).
You can try with 12aY7 model tubes, 6072 for some brands. I recommend you an Electro Harmonix pair, because you need more focus on your MID-HIGH and TREBLE range of frequencies. JJ and Mullard, as TAD tubes, has a MID range focusing, that it won`t work for your sound wishes).
Mesa Boogie V-Twin is a perfect pedal preamp to sound like hard rock and metal bands. (But only a V-Twin is not enough).
Try to listen this demo song recorded by ourselves last year (Gherkins - Sex on the beach) Palm´s Desert Stoner Rock. gherkins.bandcamp.com/track/sex-on-the-beach
All guitars was recorded through the V-Twin. Rythm guitars plugged into a VOX AC30 CC2 (JJ tubes) and solo guitars plugged into a Soldano Rec Preamp SERIES II and a Marshall 9200 power amp (Only 50w, left channel).
Comment your opinnion about gain ranges, please.

I do own this pedal and yes you can pull some sweet sweet metal out of it, no overdrive nor boost needed.
I play from good old Motley Crue all the way to Lamb Of God and all in between! I play it through my Mesa Boogie Mark V/25 Clean/Fat channel.. its like having an extra channel on the amp and can get me close to a rectifier tone. Don't get me wrong I love the drive channel on my Mark V but I like to change tone appropriately depending on the song being played! I only use the V-twin's Blues and Solo channel as I bypass the clean and use my amp for the clean. I don't have any videos on here but I'm sure you can find some good V-Twins Metal demos.
