EP25 HQ HOLDEN FIND , FROM ABANDONED FOR YEARS TO BIG BLOCK CHEV ENGINE SWAP AND BURNOUTS . MUCUS HQ

- We found this HQ abandoned in a dirt floor shed with no motor or transmission so i wanted to do something different with this one Roadkill style.. In the first episode we gave it a first wash but with no engine it wasn't a Will it run type of video, i swapped a big block chev and th400 into it and made it run that way. This episode its all about driving it. full front end rebuild and fit a 9" ford diff , new brake lines etc and more.
check out Episode 18
In this episode i come across an abandoned wrecking yard / junk yard and rescue a HQ wagon and a classic old Ek Holden but thats definitely not all we find. call it a shed / barn find or what ever you like but there is classic survivor cars everywhere, from a XB Ford falcon coupe , Monaro , Torana , a Mopar Charger ,a couple of chevy 56 / 57 , valiants , Commodore HSV clubsport even a few old jdm datsun and mitsubshi cars and much more ever a few old toyota 4x4 . So do take a look it doesn't matter if your into perfect body and paint work , patina , rust or whatever theres a bit of everything in this one for everyone. We will have a few of the cars we bought in future episodes shortly and hopefully you'll see them running and driving back on the highway after years of being parked and left to rot. cheers for watching Backshed .
What a crazy thing yt is. Your reward for the hard work is owning and driving those cars. We are riding along without doing the work. Thanks for sharing.
Beer time it is. 😀
Cheers mate you more than welcome to come along with me 🍺🍺👍
Thank god you are back…..I have been staring at my iPad and crying for a month waiting for your next episode.
Hahah too kind Chris 🍺🍺👍
Mee too thank Christ. Love this channel.
He's back!!! Mate you'd be having words with whoever put that diff housing together for you. Great content again mate. Definitely not doing it wrong, I'd prefer the long episode opposed to 14 parts.
Cheers Matt
I appreciate ya saying mate
🍺👍
Sadly I'm back in UK for my sins. South Africa is going down the tubes, but like the HQ,s.i still love her.
Bloody happy Backshed popped up in my feed.
Awesome work mate👍😎🇦🇺
Cheers mate I appreciate ya saying 🍺🍺👍
Hit beer o'clock & this comes up, yee-ah, bring it on!👊
🍺🍺👍
An epic production Michael. Well done. Who doesn't love a big block Q?
Hahah I’m not sure who doesn’t like a big block but I can tell you they’re wrong hahhahha . 🍺👍
Love all the videos but this build has been the best to watch, as a ex hq owner, I wouldn’t change a thing, , scenery is superb also 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
Couldn't see your shirt in the merch shop. We all know flannies get the fannies! Great vid mate.
Hahahaha yeah no flano’s in the shop at the minute as they are crazy $$$$ for us to buy . I’m working on it mate 🍺👍
Hands down best UA-camr. I always look forward to your content. Well done.
Too kind mate thankyou 🍺🍺👍
At last! Something good to watch!!
Honestly there is so much content out there and the makers of it are well meaning but almost devoid of personality - that’s what sets you apart mate! You are actually present in front of the camera. I haven’t finished watching yet but I’m sure it’s going to be good.
facts
Too kind mate , just videoing what we are doing and hope ya feel like it’s a beer in a shed with a mate.🍺🍺👍
@@backshed5295 indeed I do
Perfect🍺
I totally agree. Mick's vids are great to watch.
Just found myself a cheap rusty v8 hz sedan no motor or box though picking it up next week. Currently rewatching all your older videos mate they are helping alot with info and motivation 👍🍻
A blank canvas hahaha I like them when they have no motor and box , you can do whatever 💪💪🍺
@@backshed5295 hardest part now is trying to decide what motor and box to go with any suggestions mate? 🤙
I really enjoy watching you fixing up the old Holdens, Mick. They are very close to my heart as, 50 years ago I used to drive a Holden HQ pick up, re badged
as a Chevy El Camino, in South Africa. We were doing power line patrols and surveys all over the republic.
I have aways thought of these Holdens as beautiful vehicles.
Me too mate they are great models
Cheers for watching Tony
Are you still in South Africa? 🍺👍
I loved your HQ story. Drop front end, make it level at least.
🍺👍
Thanks for ya vids. I thought I recognized ya tar strip. Haven't been out "the bat" way for 30+ years. Also when ya do laps on Dartbrook reminds me as kids late 70's ridin our pushies from Mbrook to the Deen on the back road.
Cheers Bob thanks for watching mate🍺👍
EXCELLENT VIDEO WORK MICK!!💥🙌👊💪💛💚
Cheers mate🍺
Hi Michael, I was never a fan of Holden until I brought myself a HQ wagon and another HQ premier sedan, it changed my life. Loved them , thank you for the time and effort you put into your videos. Cheers
Cheers Ross I appreciate ya comment and watching mate🍺👍
A great job done on MUCUS which sounds really good. You should enjoy riding down memory lane. I really enjoy your videos and no it is not too long. Keep them coming Mick.
Cheers smitty I appreciate ya saying mate🍺👍
The longer the vid the better
DAM MAN iget great pleasure watching your videos but this one made me smile from ear to ear ,muckus turned out effin awesome ,looks killa , sounds killa ,mate you are killa great job ,this is what backshed muscle cars are all about
Cheer Graham I appreciate ya saying mate and yep just get it running is the deal.🍺👍
The old Qs i remember when they first came out the old man bought a new kingswood wagon on the NZ dealers tour to see them introduced, first HQ wagon in Nz was in our driveway you could ride around all day in it and not see another HQ in a few months they were everywhere, simple cars to fix when they broke I owned 7 in Aussie mostly vans for traveling, they were cheap to buy and disposable when they stopped,
They are great ol cars 🍺🍺👍👍
Another great video Mick. A long one but loved watching it.
Cheers William I appreciate ya hanging in there to finish it , the end is the best bit haha. 🍺🍺👍
An informative and interesting film. A much better reality tv show than anything Motor Trend TV does. All they want to do is hurry to the end results. The “Heap” is coming along nicely. I know there is more coming so, as you say, Mick, “Let’s get into it”! I’d say make your films longer, but I know you gotta work for a living, as well.
Absolutely Don I’d do have to work mate and it gets in the way of doin what I love mate but thanks for the top comment being compared to Motortrend is flattering to say the least.🍺🍺👍
Im dum amechanics yet love these cars. Cheers mick.
Cheers mate🍺👍
backshed.net.au/
Hey I know it’s a long one people but I’d prefer to give ya a long one with a result at the end rather than 7 20min episodes and 6 with waiting to see what’s next . You tell me if I’m doin it wrong?? Anyhow cheers and the next 2 videos will be up quicker and they are Aussie classic revivals. Cheers 🍺🍺 oh and sorry about the soft burnout but I’m still bedding in rings in that fresh motor , I bash it next time you see it hahhha.
The VB coming up yyeeww
Yep very soon.
YOU'RE DOIN' IT SPOT ON MICK!!💯👍
Cheers Glen 🍺👍
I love the HQ's. well done mate.
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
There's just nothing like the sound of a built big block 👌💯
🍺👍
Triggered my nostalgia. My mad mate had a 253 in that colour, but as it was 40 years ago, it looked a bit better.
Hahaha yeah mucus is a bit shitty but he’s getting better every time I work on it 🍺👍
Another great episode mate. Really enjoyed the long video with all your tips and hints. Keep up the awesome work!
Cheers Andrew I appreciate you watching mate🍺👍
Awesome episode mate, love Mucus.
Cheers mate thanks for watchin🍺👍
ya wouldn't ever guess by looking at my '97 Tacoma. But everything from underneath the Hood to all four wheels is basically restored, rebuilt (by my hands) or brand new. The truck was wreaked & a large hole thru the block when I bought it. Runs & drives better than most newer disposable vehicles. All the best vehicles were made before 2000.
🍺👍
Great job. I love the sound and the new stripes are 100% better. I'm a holden fan even if I drive a 11yr old Honda Jazz Vibe S.
Cheers for watching🍺👍I do really appreciate it.
Awesome vid , as always enjoy ya beers 👍👍🍺🍺🍺🍺
Here’s Paul 🍺👍
That's a power of work put into this episode Mick. Well done. Some great tips of things to do and things to avoid. You said this was going to be a long one and it sure was. Great entertainment.
Cheers Ross I appreciate ya saying mate🍺👍

The best channel on UA-cam just gets better
Cheers mate ya too kind🍺👍
What a great note, love it.🤙
Cheers mate🍺👍
Awesome work mate 👍
Cheers mate🍺👍
Haha the old "use the drum as an axle puller" trick.
My LH SLR 5000 had a drum banjo and just before the spider gears would blow apart, the axle splines would twist a little.
So the drum trick always came in handy.
In the end I could change a centre in it in about 40 minutes.
The problem was solved when I traded it in for an LX A9X torrie which had the bigger 10 bolt. But if we are going to talk about tall gearing, My A9X had a 2.6 to 1 ratio out the factory.
Why that was the case I never knew.
Great video. Nice to see people saving these old girls.
I shudder to think how many pretty solid hq's we sent to the tip in the 80s. 😢
🍺👍
HQ content is gold
🍺👍
Luv ya stuff mate cheers for all the handy tips too thats awesome!. The old poo bear gunna be Awesome Also!

Great work mate.
i had issues with an aftermarket trns dipstick, it filled my pan with plastic linner because everytime id put the dipstick in it would scratch the linner . I went back to standard. Keep wrenching 👌

I've never seen one of those brake line straighteners. I've always pulled the line through a hole in a 2x4.
Another great video
Thanks Brent🍺👍
This car has come a long ways. I'm glad to see you haven't held back on this Holden 😞! 🤣
I do like some of the unique styling lines you have with the Holden. Comparing it to some of the same vehicles of the era that we have here in the United States.
Cheers mate , I thank you stateside guys from the bottom of my heart for big block chevys! 💪💪🍺
Hes back yer great vids. Thanks bro just explain it so well easy n great vids
Cheers Julian I appreciate ya watching mate🍺👍
Thanks for posting another vid Mick. Geez those stripes made it look soooo much better. It turns the tyres nicely too :)
Cheers mate , yeah very easy that was only just touching it as I’m still bedding in rings but I can’t wait to get after it on a strip. 🍺👍

Cheers mate🍺👍
Another great episode. Always worth the wait. Also prefer a decent watch rather than 20 minutes or so. Nice one.
Cheers Matt I appreciate ya saying 🍺👍
Hi, loving the videos. I once spent a horrible afternoon at the eye and ear hospital getting my eye scraped after drilling under a car without safety glasses, especially after the steel started rusting. Can you let people know its super important to wear them and grab some when your drilling next time. People are learning from your videos so maybe you will get to save someone from the same experience and possibly even save their sight. I do love old Holdens, especially with a V8.
Point taken mate and cheers for watching Martin🍺👍
Good to see you back, just love mucus transformation
Cheers Ross🍺👍
Been hanging out for this . Beers and backshed my favourite combo
Cheers mate ya too kind🍺👍
So good to see you working on cars again. Some great pointers there too. Been a while, but you are back. That 4x4 you hinted at is intriguing. See you soon,
