Bulgarian Record and Tape Collector Has Serious Collection!

- Analogplanet.com editor Michael Fremer visited a serious Bulgarian record and tape collector in March and shot this video. Keep in mind that he lives in a seventh floor walk-up apartment! The Wilson Alexandria speakers weight around seven hundred pounds each and had to be hand-carried up seven sets of stairs!

When he first walked in I heard him playing the sublimely, gorgeous 'You've Got It Bad Girl' from the greatest Stevie Wonder album ever recorded, "Talking Book". I then knew that his musical situation was gonna be quite sick. And it was. Amazing.

It's Quincy Jones, coincidentally Stevie takes a solo elsewhere on the LP.
They were clearly listening to "Talking Book". The Quincy Jones covers of "You've Got it Bad Girl" and "Superstition" sound totally different.
Ok, to my shame I don't know 'Talking Book', something to chase up, thx much.

This is the second video I have seen in 2 days where a dude with a stupid-expensive system with massive speakers was living in an apartment. That's ridiculous. In a house, you can try to get the cops called. In an apartment, there's no need trying....its gonna happen when the knob is around 5.

Tone arm on that vinyl player is totally stupid. Tone arm should be stiff, but most important is that it's as lightweighted as possible. That player can play deceant only really straight discs. (And it always need clamp)

If you're a serious record collector then you are going to need alot of room to store them. And as ive now been collecting rare soul records for 45 years Ive got a pretty big one myself. Ive only got 100 CDs and about 200 LPs but countless 45's. I have had many 'conversations' with my long suffering girlfriend concerning my record box which she insists calling 'the spare bedroom' but as theres only records,a decks.a chair in it then how can she insist its a bedroom!! Women eh!
I don't know...At a certain point big collections aren't that impressive...at least to me, I guess when I see something like this, I feel like I have a window into someone's neuroses, and THAT looms larger than any sense of taste or curatorial focus. IF the owner of that collection could tell me what he loves about each title and where he first heard it, that would be impressive. Instead, I have a feeling what I'm looking at is another person with merely with enough privilege to have bought the store, so to speak. Got buck? Good for him.

This collection is a collection of someone who started collecting vinyls, tapes and CDs since he was a teenager. What you see here is a life passion and year and years of travelling around the world searching for artists, seeing their shows. What is even more impressive about this guy is that you take out a random vinyl ot ouf the thousands and he knows exactly what it is , which artist and exactly how he bought it ! So don't speak, because I bet this guy knows a hell lot more about music than you probably and hell yeh he got buck and using it in the best way if you ask me
