Excellent video and advice. I certainly picked up on this in your masterclass, which is amazing. I recognized how it's important to include my thought process going through it. For example, the fact that I approved a 50,000 USD is equally important to the story as what my thought process is to make that decision. It's important to include why you decided to approve it and include the rewards/consequences if you chose not to approve it. GG helped transform my Amazon interview process into something that was almost fun! Best of luck to you all! I wouldn't have gotten the offer without her 😁

@@ishashah86 no I don’t provide Job Family specific examples 1) because there are hundreds if not thousands of job families 2) because then students don’t actually “learn” and understand the information to empower them to best represent “their” stories- they just try to copy them and then crash & burn when interviewers start probing.

@@ishashah86 I would highly recommend checking out her free class. It is the SE as the others pretty much and includes sample stories in her mock interview. I personally chose to use examples that really stuck out from my experience. The stories you HAVE to tell your friends or go home and complain about, or laugh with other coworkers about. I found that much easier to use in interviews (and more fun) than trying to shape very specific market/project life cycle/ structured story etc., We all have them, they are easier to remember and they showcase the hardwork and effort that you put into your professional life

They may not be and I don’t say they are. But if what your organization is looking for primarily IS those behavioral details, then you’re taking a huge risk hiring someone who you don’t gather that information on. Which is why Amazon won’t hire you without that information.

GG, How should I address a question about failure when applying for a senior project position? Specifically, is it acceptable to refer to an experience from my master's degree ten years ago? For example, let's say I failed to succeed in my master's program initially, but then the next year I studied more diligently and successfully passed. Additionally, if I'm asked about a scenario that I haven't encountered in real life, is it appropriate to create a fictional story, or should I handle it differently?

    Hello GG,
I recently had an interview at Amazon for a TPM role. I was asked a question and I was 3-4 minutes into the story. I was answering using the STAR method I was in my A. That is the point where I was interrupted by my interviewer who wanted me to rush through to the results part where metrics were asked of me and the impact I had on the project. I was eventually getting there. What did I do wrong here? For a TPM role, is a 5 minute story too long?

GG, this is a great video and thanks for doing all you do. But I have gone through a couple of these answers now and it feels to me that it was very scripted. Any answer in a way can be scripted in the best possible fashion whether that actually happened or not. Just doesnt feel real. And what is puzzling me is that does amazon really look for such things. Because when I hear the scripted answer above, I feel that the interviewee is just faking it. I have done hundreds of interviews in my firm at junior and senior level and we typically look for substance of their work in addition to their behavior. And somehow I feel that the substance is getting lost. I feel that amazon may be just throwing away great candidates because they are looking for this fuzziness more so than the actual project.
