Each scene is laid out the same but differently, and Tyrone's scene subtly indicates the most hope. Harry's shows that he literally has no hope. TheBadwolf007 Not all prisons give any treatment to heroin addicts. I read that one nearly died of a heart attack after going through withdrawal for three - four days straight. What a devastating movie, and this final scene hammers it home. Marion's shot, for me, was most telling, with her clutching the bag of heroin while her fashion sketches (her dream) lie strewn over the floor. It's tragic because you can tell, because of her smile, that her nightmare's only beginning.
Seeing Sara’s friends cry outside is heartbreaking. Even if some people don’t do drugs, if they’re close to someone who does an goes through tragic results like Sara, it breaks everyone down.

One of the creepiest things I find besides the reality of the entire movie, is Marions smile of soul-less satisfaction when the camera begins to show her. Her face reads that she is happy that she has the drug no matter the cost. As long as she has it, everything is dandy. Ps- I know this clip is titled « Fetal Position »... but I just noticed that the four main characters in the movie all go into a fetal position before the clip is over. This movie is so good. Tragic, but great.
It looks like she wants to cry but already has no tear to do so Really hope that Harry and Marion can keep in touch by phone and somehow meet in person or it'll we all doomed
I don't get why everyone is saying this movie is messed up, f***** up, etc. That is the entire point of the movie, to demonstrate the true destructive paths of drugs. Their is no true happiness in this lifestyle. I hope whoever watched this movie actually learned something from it.
Thing is, this is not really the ending of anything. The suffering has just started for these characters. That makes this ending even more devastating. Even now as miserable and lost as they are, the worst has yet to come. This is such a powerful film. And the book is great too if not even more intense and bleak.
They are still alive. There is still hope. Marion would have it the hardest because the other three are in facilities that will force them into some semblance of rehab and healing. While Marion is free to continue her addiction.
Infact, the other way round. The chances of Marion falling into the depths of depression is high and there's nobody to save her. And that's one of the reasons people would fall into the pits of darkness and end up ceasing to exist(suicide).
Agreed. Marion's fate is the absolute scariest. Those were just her first two times, who knows what kind of things she'll have to do next to get her dope. Marion definitely crossed all the boundaries she had; it's only downhill from there

I never caught this before. I never realized the prize she won in her dream at the end was her own son. Jesus, that’s awful.
Marion had the worst ending cause her story isn’t finished yet
She’ll continue to prostitute
Neither is Tyrone's
@@adrianmarcolini2210 Tyrone has the most hope. He’ll hopefully be clean in jail and snap out of it. Small chance, but better than the rest.
@@xMorbidArtx He has the memory of his mother to live up to as well. It shows how far he's fallen, but also gives him motivation to clean himself up and come out of prison a new man, because it's never too late.
This movie needs to be seen at least once
Is more than enough
30 times
1:36 that part made me tear, it's all she has now...
Ellen Burstyn gave us a master class in acting.. the biggest Oscar robbery of all time!! She should’ve won
“I love you, Harry.”
“I love you too, Ma.”
I broke down
This movie = clinical depression
i'm glad that sarah is getting the help she really REALLY needed
0:58 those ladies reaction while seeing her.. I mean they look like they are saying " what did you do to yourself ?" & then Sara's face is like " this is me now " 1:03 i mean it's truly SAD and terrifying also that music i mean it's so haunting. This movie is a complete masterpiece, and i Still can't belive ellen did not win her Oscar for her performance, she was ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!!
1:00 Her face is like "Thanks for recommending those pills asshole, they really did wonders."
I just can't with the scene of Sara's friends crying after seeing her friend lost, it broke my heart
1:28 That detail about all Marion's dreams are down
And I thought 2000 wasn’t a good year for films and music but Requiem proved me wrong.
Hmmm... Memento ? American Psycho ? X-Men ? Unbreakable ?
2000 was the very first 2000 year ever happened & also good times back in 2000
But I do understand don't do drugs
Don't forget shaft
@@merlinetete1228 that too
@@merlinetete1228 even Gone In 60 Sceonds
the music is perfect it makes the movie so much more haunting and disturbing than it already is
Man, that got me to tears at the end.
All those nights I spent in pure bliss just staring at the ceiling while my mom cried and just suffered, wondering if I would come home at night, why I was killing myself.
How did you recover?
One of the creepiest things I find besides the reality of the entire movie, is Marions smile of soul-less satisfaction when the camera begins to show her. Her face reads that she is happy that she has the drug no matter the cost. As long as she has it, everything is dandy. Ps- I know this clip is titled « Fetal Position »... but I just noticed that the four main characters in the movie all go into a fetal position before the clip is over. This movie is so good. Tragic, but great.
It looks like she wants to cry but already has no tear to do so
Really hope that Harry and Marion can keep in touch by phone and somehow meet in person or it'll we all doomed
I don't get why everyone is saying this movie is messed up, f***** up, etc. That is the entire point of the movie, to demonstrate the true destructive paths of drugs. Their is no true happiness in this lifestyle. I hope whoever watched this movie actually learned something from it.
Everyone, at least once in his life, have to see this masterpiece.
2:43 'Douchebag, Harry! Douchebag, Harry! Douchebag, Harry!'
Spring never came!
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Thing is, this is not really the ending of anything. The suffering has just started for these characters. That makes this ending even more devastating. Even now as miserable and lost as they are, the worst has yet to come. This is such a powerful film. And the book is great too if not even more intense and bleak.
The fetal positions were heart shattering, poor babies
All the actors were fantastic, but Ellen was on another level. One of the best performances I've ever seen
The way the camera zooms out to show Mrs. Goldfarbs friends are sitting at a bus stop, waiting to leave.
I’ve never done drugs and after seeing this movie I intend to keep it that way
😑🇺🇸
That’s a surface level view if all you got out of the film was “don’t do drugs.”
@@mrbluesky4838then what’s the full view?
Sara's two friends crying at the bus stop always destroys me. Damn!
Yeah, and what she has to do is going to be dangerous. It’s going to get harder and harder to get away all the time.
Agreed. Marion's fate is the absolute scariest. Those were just her first two times, who knows what kind of things she'll have to do next to get her dope. Marion definitely crossed all the boundaries she had; it's only downhill from there
Really an amazing yet sad and tragic film. It was so well done. Everything from the acting, production, screenplay, direction was on point! The soundtrack was fantastic. Ellen Burstyn blew me away
Tyrone got the best out of all sure he's in jail but he's getting clean while Marion snuggles up with her coke
Heroin*
I don't think so. He seems to be feeling withdrawal symptoms, so he will need drugs the rest of his life.
@@MrCaquita23 The director said that he has the best chance out of all of them to reclaim his life, everyone else is at rock bottom with no way back up.
@@MrCaquita23 It was a hint the book that he might doing it better than anyone else.
@@MrCaquita23drug withdrawals don’t last forever, you do know that right? They last several weeks to maybe a month at most. Once you get through the rough of it (about 2 weeks) you should be fine and healthy again
The remix of this song is one of my favourite all time psytrance tracks. But the original one? God, it's dark, it hunts your thoughts and annihilates your good mood. Brilliant.
Criminally underrated movie
True😥😥😥😥😉
The most stressful and tense movie i have ever watch
this music is PAIN, this music is my DRUG
Still to this day the scariest movie I’ve ever watched!!!!
The music just made all this seem more depressing and more fucked up......
Agree. This movie has one of the saddest soundtracks ever
for real. once was enough. mad kudos to burstyn for that performance.
Such a great movie. I heard about it but didn't watch it until recently. I was almost in tears, and if a movie can produce that enough emotion, it's worth watching. (Now I want to read the book to see how it compares.)
Did you ever read the novel? It's a bit more graphic when it comes to the suffering Sara endures.
Hubert Selby Jr wrote the novel, and several others. Requiem isn’t even his darkest work, but it is the most heart-breaking.
So emotional and depressing, but that's what makes it incredible.
This,"Edward Scissorhands" "Million Dollar Baby" and "The Origin of Mewtwo" have two of the most depressing stories/endings that I have ever seen.
All have depressing stories/endings, but that's what makes them so incredible, haunting, beautiful, and brilliant.
The biggest prize for Sara was Harry living the best life he could have 😭💔💔 and is showed to us as the final scene, omg this is truly devastating, and now she can only dream with that
oh man... movies in the 1990s-early 2000s that had happy beginnings and painful endings were so good.
I hope you get totally over it, no one deserves to feel that kind of pain...
i remember seeing this movie and man, the things they went through just for a high, or to be wanted,or just whatever. this is a movie that needs to reach out to children as well as adults who falls into drug addiction, money, and sex. inspiring movie this is.
absolutely awesome ending. the best and the worst, can't stop crying.
Seeing Harry cry makes my heart break
the score in this movie is brilliant
Drugs are not cool. Remember that kiddos , this what awaits you if you try it just once.
Jules Love you are stupid, you can smoke weed and/or drink alcohol moderately whole your life without any major consequences.
@@rokanza2293 He’s not stupid but the movie really is about addiction to a particular substance. It’s about disconnecting from reality and people. This what happens when you live life for pleasure instead of for others.
Is it haunting to anybody else that they were all connected in the end?
Sarah: lived with the fantasy that
Marion: engaged and was about to be happily married with
Harry: who ran a successful business with her and
Tyrone.
Saw this in 10th grade 2001-2002… stuck with me.
i like this movie. this movie is the only thing that gets my emotions flowing
Brilliance done brilliantly.Great acting.Makes trainspotting look like the Beano.
This is the saddest scene I have seen in my life and I can’t ever forget it 💔
Parents and teachers: "DON'T DO DRUGS!!!"
Darren Aronofsky:
She ended with the BLUE dress
Every time I watch this, I get chills and start to cry from the sad and grim ending.
jared leto and for sure ellen both should have gotten awards for their performances
The two friends hugging on the bench is the part that broke me.
most disturbing yet the one of the best movies I have ever scene.. it's haunting ..
1:20 scared the shit out of me
Marion is smiling because she has her fix and some
This movie makes me sad...
I wonder if Parasite was cribbing a little from this ending, having the family see each other only in a dream.
Maybe, but this was more disturbing than Parasite
"I love you to ma," that line literaly KILLED me
This movie did indeed traumatized me, because it shows to never do drugs. It’ll in other words mess you’re life up so bad in ways you wouldn’t expect and there’s no going back easily.
Now show this film in a high school and it’ll change peoples perspective on drugs and how they’re bad.
It's not about not doing drugs it's about don't get addicted to them
This movie teaches you that whatever you do everything has it's price!
Man...
After watching this movie, all I could think through my tears was "Fuck, drugs man. Fuck 'em." But a few hours later, I loaded up a fat shot of China white.
This movie should change people's minds about drugs, but not if you're already an addict. But I'll never forget this movie- ever. It'll always be in the back of my mind. And maybe, someday, when I'm clean, I'll use it as a way to stay that way.
Well if you still have parents and family or loved ones at least you can tell them you love them. That's really important too.
Did you ever quit drugs? I see this comment is 4 years old. I’m hoping you are still here with us.
