The Galluss-J looks like something the original Principality of Zeon would create

Is it true that its weird beam gun was originally supposed to be something akin to the Unicorn’s beam magnum?
Edit: the “missiles” were supposed to be expendable e-caps.

Focused too much on the energy gun in my last comment, but there a lot other oddities about this MS:
Supposedly it is classified as an “urban” use MS, which kind of makes sense given that it is frequently shown without a handheld weapon, instead relying on its finger machine guns and should missile launchers. This is particularly important for a battle inside a colony, where the use of beam weapons could have devastating consequences.
It also has this weird extending punch, which might be meant to make up for the lack of melee weapons, extending its melee range. Wonder if it can hit targets on the ground while standing, su ch as vehicles or tanks? In such case it might even be meant as a way to conserve ammo against such targets.
It is also supposed to work in tandem with the Zssa, theory being that a Zssa squadron would bombard an area and then the Gallus J squadron will conduct a mop up operation.
The Gallus J also has an unusually powerful generator, specially for an early Axis grunt machine. Among AMX series units introduced in ZZ, it boasts the 4th largest generator output, for which it is only 20 MW below the AMX-011S sitting at 3rd place.
The other two units are the power hungry AMX-014 Doven Wolf (2nd place) and the AMX-015 Geymalk (by some accounts meant to be a 40m behemoth like the Psycho Gundam & Queen Mantha) at the very top.
I have mentioned this earlier, but there’s lineart for what is supposed to be a mega launcher for the Zaku III, connected below the right side of the upper chest in a fashion similar to a Gaza knuckle buster, which can justify the high energy needs of those units. The same can’t be said about the Gallus J.
Very often it deploys without a handheld weapon, and even its beam saber seems like an optional weapon that doesn’t have a dedicated rack or storage point on the MS. And to avoid showing it using the “energy gun” it is sometimes shown using weapons like the older Hizack beam rifle.
For me this indicates that the Gallus J was either designed to operate weapons with high energy demand (energy gun operating as beam magnum) or potentially as a base frame for different configurations, like the MS-08TX Efreet series.
After ZZ, at least 3 variants of the Gallus J were introduced, the AMX-101K, the AMX-101S and the AMX-101E.
The Gallus K connects a GaZowmn’s hyper knuckle buster (normally an e-pack weapon) directly to its torso, which fits with the idea that the MS has lots of unused generator output.
The Gallus S comes in a couple of different configurations, one of them equipped with a Lange Bruno gun plus, the same type as Angelo’s Geara Zulu, another powerful beam weapon.
While the Schuzrum Gallus doesn’t use beam weapons, its kamikaze role means that a unit with a larger reactor will be able to do more damage if blown up next to its target, which reminds me of the concept of using the lower torso of a Bawoo as a nuclear missile.
I do like the Gallus J, though I would have liked to see finger machine guns in both hands, given that this refined designed compared to the Gouf’s does seem more practical for operating handheld weapons.
