I cannot stop myself from repeating you playing the emotional setting over and over again. So beautiful and ill be picking up this plugin very soon! Fantastic review and my good sir, are you good at playing the piano!
Great in-depth review and description of this library! The only thing I would say is that the "Samples" folder of Noire is actually 14.6 GB instead of 300-400 MB. Other than that as a composer/pianist myself, I can really appreciate this.
yeah, I was thinking about this too as soon as he said it.. the entire library is over 14GB... when I monitor the disk activity when I'm playing the Noire Pure and I do a full automated sweep with all attack volumes from A1 to C9, I can see Kontakt (which has Noire loaded) read >6GB of data from disk.
I don't understand why did they choose Yamaha, even if it's a softer CFX (softer compared to C7), it's still a Yamaha which is famous for having a relatively bright (even metallic) sound, and then they make this soft piano sound library out of it. The end result is really nice and Noire is one of my favorite piano plugin, I just don't get the piano brand/model choice.
@@kaisfpExactly i think there are too few good VST out there of pianos by other manufacturers than Yamaha, making a warm sounding VST out of Yamaha pianos that are famous for being bright doesn’t really make much sense, i do like Noire though but i’m also confused about the choice. Same thing with the Garritan CFX it is really good but imagine if they did that with a Steinway or some other brand
Fantastic and enjoyable review. Your presentation and playing skills are first rate. I have this instrument and absolutely love it. Please keep these coming.
With your review, I pulled the trigger and fiddled with the settings to get one of the best piano tones for classical playing. It takes some time to learn the individual settings but when you know what you're doing, the limit is your imagination with this tool!
Another "plug in" that I'm really enjoying. I come from the perspective of a dinner pianist in Waikiki. This one really works. I don't understand why the higher end slab pianos don't grab me in the same way. It's really too bad. What people really want to know is which is the best or which are the most economical MIDI controllers you can pair with these virtual voices. There is too much emphasis on just replicating accoustic instruments which at this point in time are completely passé. Again your playing does justice to these voices. You are not a basic triad type of player. There are very few pianists who actually have enough harmonic chops to properly demonstrate these instruments.
Thanks for the review. I really like this one, it took me a while to warm to it but now I choose it consistently over the Grandeur because of it's versatility of sounds. Fantastic playing too!
As a Berlin based composer and musician I was particularly thrilled when I saw that you made a review about this outstanding virtual piano. Aside from the fact that I had to grin a few times about your pronounciation of German terms 😉 I am really amazed about the almost philiosophical/"religious" depth of your explainations about the details and capabilities of this unique instrument. A big applause of course to the folks at NI also, who created this VST!
Your reviews are always insightful. Thanks for your honest opinions on everything. This was an exceptional review. I have Noire and it has become my goto piano plugin. If I want a purer acoustic I am using Imperfect Samples Fazioli 10 ft one.
The better my listening environment is, I realise that these virtual instruments sound even better than these renditions on UA-cam. I would have hoped that the original recordings were made in full uncompressed Wav format. And it would have been wonderful to listen to these., e.g be able to download the recordings and hear the FULL uncompressed audio of the review. On lesser quality listening environments, you may not notice the loss of quality, from compression, but with better listening gear, it becomes immediately apparent. Excellent demos, but the actual virtual instruments sound even better.
That is certainly a fair point! The same is true with the acoustic pianos we demo/review on our UA-cam channel as well. While our production team always does an amazing job of capturing these instruments' tones, the best way to experience them is in person with your own ears. That is where all of the magic, nuance, and richness can really be heard. :)
Hi Stu. Thanks so much for this review! As I said in a comment to one of your other videos, I really love the Garritan CFX, but I will need a new go-to piano, as it seems that the vendor is not interesting in providing a native Apple Silicon version. I have watched many other videos about this and other pianos (yours are the best!). The "pure" piano of Noire sounds great, but it is the more soft and ethereal sounds that I really love. Nils Frahm really brought the essence of his music to this plugin.
Just in FYI, as of late 2022, the Garritan CFX vst is now natively compatible with the newer Apple M series chips. You can simply upgrade the Garritan ARIA Player to v2.001 or above for native support. Although older ARIA versions will still work through Rosetta if need be. Garritan CFX used to be my favorite, but it is a little long in the tooth these days (2023) and I much prefer the VSL line of Synchron Piano vsts, if you have the money and a fast computer this is a no brained in my opinion. That said, i still love Noire as a specific niche sound, especially the emotional patch, SFX, and some of the felt patches as well. Cheers!
@@Anatidaephobe Thanks for letting me know about Garritan CFX being native Silicon now. It and Noire are still my goto pianos, long in the tooth they both may be.
Sounds like a really Grand Grand piano. Imagine what would the Noire sound like if they did not modify the CFX and sampled it just like an ordinary unmodified Yamaha CFX.
Thanks for taking the time to check out the review! The exciting thing about VST plugins is the variety; the ability to have access to so many different sounds at the click of a button. There are quite a few CFX sample sets out there, having something like Noire, which is a bit of a different spin, is a nice option to have access to (especially if you're in the film scoring/production camp).
