He has my respect to be honest. He has worked hard and thats the main key. He has saved us quite a few times and I respect him for the effort he puts in!
@@Utahandbodhi everybody has their own reason. For some it's that under Bettman rules have slowly been introduced to curtail fighting and they think he's softening the game. For some it's them thinking he has a bias against Canadian markets. For me personally I disagree 100% with his philosophy (and likely yours and many others) as to what makes a good league. I don't think parity makes the sport better. I think a league with no salary caps and teams whose talent matches the strength of their market is more exciting (like how soccer leagues are structured in Europe)
We should be making a statue of this man. For anyone in this city boo this savior, is embarrassing and short sighted. The Canadian assistance program. Bettman championed that policy for years, and was the primary reason Edmonton didn't relocate. He made a policy forcing all the other franchises to donate a certain percentage, to donate about 2.4mil annually to Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Ottawa. He saved this franchise, this city is the Edmonton Oilers, imagine this city without an NHL team. So if you join the sheep and boo this man, give your head a shake. I love Gary Bettman
Anyone else hate how he cuts off reporters from asking their questions. Even if you know what they’re going to ask it’s common courtesy to at least let them finish their statement.
Some of our media questions are embarrassing and selfish. Why are we almost pissing him off with such bad questions? Like the betting question or play in games. How they worded them was so aggressive. And of course their is more fighting in the playoffs and first round because you have matchups that sre like colorado and nashville or rivalries. Once the 2nd round comes things ease down a little
The play in question was incredibly stupid. Literally no one wants a play in, and the fact he brought up 16/21 teams making the playoffs as if that was a better situation was comical. People get hyped about the playoffs because of how hard it is to get in, and once you are in, it’s only the top end teams that are battling. This is what makes the Stanley Cup the hardest trophy to win in sports. Thought Bettman answered that question perfectly - I was actually really impressed with him in this interview. Either that or our media in Edmonton are so incredibly dumb and just made him look like a genius for 17 minutes, which I wouldn’t put past us either.
Bettman is the NHL's 1st Commissioner... his predecessors were all NHL "Presidents." What Bettman has accomplished in comparison to his direct predecessor, John Zigler is astonishing on multiple fronts. Zigler was bush league, and oversaw widespread NHL owner collusion and corruption, stifling player pay and rights. NHL US broadcasts rights paid a mere $5 million/yr when Zigler left in 1992. 2nd best Commissioner in sports, next to NBA's Adam Silver. Always interested in his remarks.
Have we just not come to expect it?He wasnt wrong with his answer. They typically start only 8 minutes later depending on if their are two anthems or not?But I hear you man.
I moved from Edmonton to South Carolina and the Oiler/LA games were on TSN2. Previous to both Oiler games, they were broadcasting the Toronto series and I’m assuming, that is why the late start- as soon as both Toronto games were over they went right to Edmonton and started the game instantly.
Love or hate him.....he does the best he can. 2 areas for improvement......1) Make the air travel more parity throughout the league, the eastern seaboard like NJ, NYI, Philly, NYR have an unfair advantage, while Pacific side spend a lot of time in the air. More like the NFL. ......2) Take one referee off the ice and put her/him in the pressbox....it will free up more ice and there will be better calls that are being missed, like the high-sticking last night on Yammer.
What kind of question was that regarding increased physicality during playoffs? Has that person ever watched playoff hockey? That's what has been going on in all hockey in every league that has ever existed. Ridiculous question implying that there is something wrong with it.
shaddup, clown....if your life depended on it, you couldn't intelligently delineate any factual or justifiable reasons for booing; like a parrot, you merely do so to show you can regurgitate what you've heard.
love how Gary shut down Matheson. Jimmy asks the worst questions. Hes so cocky and self fulfilling.
Add Specre to that list.
which question was matheson?
@@TheCanalllllllllllll The dumb one.
@@TheCanalllllllllllll the sports betting one. Jim is a clown 🤡
He’s right. The playoff format is the best in pro sport.
He has my respect to be honest. He has worked hard and thats the main key. He has saved us quite a few times and I respect him for the effort he puts in!
The large majority of people that boo him could absolutely not give a coherent explanation on why they do so.
@Weed And Wrestling that’s fair however at the end of the day gary represents the owners and if that’s what they wanted theres not much he can do
@Weed And Wrestling ok, that is why you might boo him, but do you really think that is why he is booed across the league?

Also for some it's just a tradition to boo him for the fun of it
Bettman played a huge role in saving the oilers. Fact.
How?
Umm untill he tells the reffs to screw us in the finals. He hates Canadian teams. What was last Canada team to win a cup? Yup

Not to mention his big role in getting a deal for rogers place. He came out publicly, and took part in negotiations.
Thank you for this information. He's got my respect now.
booooooooooooooo.
It is more fun to boo him
Didn’t know this but he just gained my respect
Good on Bettman to sit down with our media, now he knows how are players feel sitting and answering these questions.
This is an excellent interview. Well worth watching.
Talking about the ice district is a subtle jab to Calgarys arena lol
No it's not because he is currently trying to do the exact same thing for Calgary as he did for Edmonton..
@@Troyjanwarrior1 but it is tho
Good on Gary putting the smackdown on the annoying reporters.
Bettman is a great commissioner
Move Arizona to Canada
I was glad to see him at the game to check out the officiating
Honestly I can't say I disagree with anything he's said

I rarely agree with ANYTHING Gregor has to say but I would like NHL games to start at the advertised time as well.

Why does he twitch so much?
He has a illness that makes him twitch it develops in some people when they age
Listen to what he says and then you know why tampa bay has won the cup last two years. Florida was the only place that was open during covid.
