A few (more) minutes of fun - with autumn leaves

- In this series you can join me at the craft table once a week for a few minutes of art and craft creativity - between twenty and thirty minutes usually. But sometimes a project needs a little MORE than just a few minutes... so in A Few (More) Minutes of Fun, you'll be invited along for a deeper dive into my creative process.
Today I'm creating a whole forest floor's worth of autumn leaves, ready for the season ahead. I'll be using papers created in previous episodes, as well as some new shimmering ones made in this video, and running them through a die-cutting machine with some of Tim Holtz's fabulous leaf dies, made by Sizzix. Definitely some inky fingers with this one!

This was so relaxing and satisfying to watch! I’m ordering those Tim Holtz dies! It seems you’re as keen as me on Autumn leaves! What a joy!
They are such a gift of a tool if you are someone who loves nature in their artwork... an endless supply of beautiful leaves (which of course can also be fresh spring greens and yellows, or rich deep summer greens and blues!). So happy you enjoyed the video so much - thank you, as ever, for your company on this creative journey.
I literally light up whenever I see a notification that you uploaded a new video. So beautiful and inspiring, thank you Allison!
It was so fun to see someone who loves leaves as much as I do. Thanks for the video. Happy Autumn!
So happy you enjoyed the video, and happy Autumn to you too!
A gorgeous array of beautiful autumn leaves, Alison. I share your love of leaves and florals in dies and have amassed quite a collection too! They are just too tempting, aren't they? Die cutting is so much fun, especially when you create such lovely papers to use.
Thank you, Ellie. Yes, the temptation of the nature dies is very strong... as you say, they are so much fun, and so great as a creative tool to add that extra something to projects. Hope you'll have a creative weekend full of autumn colour.
This might very well be my favorite! Thank you so much❤
So happy to hear that - hope you have a creative weekend full of autumn colour.
What a treasure for the eyes! Autumn is my favorite and I love the colors! Thank you for sharing!
Always a treat when those autumn colours start to glow! Thanks again for your company on this creative journey.
Oh Alison, you brighten up my day with your fabulous videos/tutorials. Isn't Autumn a beautiful season - so many fantastic colours. Your art is AMAZING, you're an inspiration. You give me so many great ideas. It sounds lovely where you live, I'd love to go there some day. Take care, and have a brilliant weekend. xx❤❤😊😊
That's such a lovely comment to read, thank you. Very happy that the videos make your days brighter - what a compliment!
And yes, I love those autumn colours when they turn up (for a few months, and then I move on again in my colour palette... the changing seasons are always in charge!). It really is a beautiful place - I feel very lucky to live where I do. Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
So much inspiration in this one video! Your love of nature and excitement in creating is so contagious it just spurs me on! Thank you for that and for sharing your wonderful talent! It is always so much fun seeing what you do with all those inky papers. It's like magic seeing them come to life!
Oh, what a wonderful comment to read - thank you so much for that. I've got a big smile on my face now. I'm so happy you are inspired to play... that's the best possible response to these videos. I hope you'll have your own few minutes of magical fun very soon!
@@w0rdsandp1ctures ❤❤❤
I so much love all your blues and greens but today you have captured my heart for autumn crafting, thank you
Those blues and greens won't vanish entirely (they usually make a return in the form of snow and ice and winter greenery!!), but it's lovely to take a dive into autumn's glories for a while. My colour palette has always shifted with the seasons - and that shows no sign of changing! Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
Just love watching you play! It’s so inspiring! And I also love my leaf dies! And one more thing I love is adding in some gold with the autumn colours! So there you go… three things I love today 🧡
Excellent... I love things in threes! Very happy you enjoyed the leafy playtime. I love my annual leaf-making sessions, so I'm very happy to share the fun and inspiration. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
A lovely reminder of the great value leaf dies give. I once made a large autumn leaf wreath out of the brown paper you sometimes get as support inside a roll of wrapping paper. Amazing what ink, sprays and patience can do. I love your ideas and need to get my dies out again. I fancy making some cards with some spritzed leaves now 😊
Love, love, love all your beautiful leaves! ❤ Thank you for all the inspiration.
I do love my annual leaf-making sessions so I'm more than happy to share the fun and inspiration. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
I can see autumn has started in the Czech Republic. Here not that many colors yet, it has all to do with soil and night temperatures (and of course the species of trees). But, you just reminded me: time to take my distress stain and dies out and create autumn leaves.
So fun to see you make these glorious autumn leaves out of all the beautiful backgrounds you made before😍luckily I played along in making the backgrounds so I will make some leaves soon and use all the great tips you gave like folding the leave and the stencil idea...never thought of that🫣 so looking forward to fmof where you use the cut out in jour art journal😃 thanks again for the inspiration in this wonderful season 🍂 🎃🍄 aEnjoy your first weekend back home Alison❣️
The mix of backgrounds and the Tim Holtz dies perfect. Inspiring makes too 😊
Very happy to hear you found some autumn inspiration here - thanks so much for watching and commenting.
At 1st glance your autumn leaves look real. Luv what u did here! 🍁 happy fall!
Thank you! I do love my annual autumn-leaf-making sessions... happy to share the joy!
Stunning! Leaves have always been my focus, such a pleasure to indulge in rustling leaves in the autumn. Sheer Joy!
Oh yes, nothing like a good walk through piles of crisp autumn leaves! So happy you enjoyed the leafy fun. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
Love this, you’ve shown how to use the die cut machine simply. Now I want one to play with🤷♀️. Beautiful work, again (!) Alison. Thanks kindly for showing your work and sharing the process❤️🇨🇦
It really is a great tool, but bear in mind it's a slippery slope... once you have the machine, you start wanting all the dies too!! Thank you so much for your company and for your always lovely comments.
Wow...Alison these little treasures are amazing... can't wait to try this ....thankyou so much for sharing ...😊
Happy you enjoyed it! I love my annual autumn-leaf-making session... glad to share the joy.
Hello Alison… mushrooms edible only once - too funny… well… maybe not… especially if you’re the one eating them! =)
After first watching today’s video before I even got up this morning, I’ve been thinking about autumn creating and pulled one of my containers of autumn / leafy stamps, dies, and papers and misc die cuts from years past. Most of the papers in that bin are various 6x6 purchased pads but there’s also some inky ones in there as well including alcohol ink backgrounds that I just love. I pulled the tags from 3 or 4 weeks ago playing with brick/stone modeling pastes so that I can have a play with those as well. I’ve really been enjoying watching the leaves change this year so I’m excited about today’s play! Looks like today is the day for pulling out mica sprays and spritz sprays and swatch them as well as having a play with autumnal colors!
Thanks for sharing your creativity and inspiration… it’s always so lovely when you invite us into your studio for a few (more) minutes of fun! Take Care! Have a lovely Sunday and upcoming week! 🙂
Such a beautiful array of colored leaves ❤!!! I love the distressed fossilized amber color. I've found it to be very versatile. 💜
Happy you love the leaves... I'm fairly wary around yellow generally, which is why the Fossilized Amber hasn't come out to play very often - but in the Spritz version with the golden glimmers, that's a different thing!! Thanks so much for your always lovely comments.
Hello Alison , I too am ready to have a play with making beautiful leaves for autumnal pieces. Your glorious brilliantly colored leaves look stunning on your work surface. I’ll be putting mine in a basket for display when I’m not playing with them. “Leafy loveliness,” as you say. Thank you, Alison
I've temporarily mislaid my usual leaf basket, so I'm going to have to go hunting! Very happy you enjoyed today's playtime. Hope you'll have lots of fun with your own leaf-making sessions. Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
Such scrumptious Autumn colors! Mezmerizing, Alison!! TY!! for the inspiration! WOW!! BTW, TY so much for liking artwork on my IG, so very kind and thoughtful of you!!
So happy you enjoyed the autumn inspiration - thank you for such a lovely comment. And you're so welcome for the Likes!!
Love, love, love the leaves!!!
Thank you... I do enjoy my annual autumn-leaf-making sessions. Happy to share the joy!
I have definitely bought into Tim’s compartmentalized making, and love having loads of inky papers, finished backgrounds and piles of die cuts. The variety of autumn inspiration in this video is wonderful. Finally, congrats on winning a gift card on today’s Halloween Hoopla.
I definitely make lots of backgrounds, so they're always around ready to be used, but other than that I tend to make in one-offs rather than the compartmentalized making. The annual autumn leaf making session one definite exception to that (and wildflower die-cuts in summer)... But given how much I enjoy it, the habit may spread I guess!!
Thanks so much for such a lovely comment and for the congratulations - I only found out this morning (I'm six hours ahead of EST, let alone Arizona... so I was already asleep by the time of the announcements!) but it was such a treat to wake up to the news.
I like to use bunches of water with mine, because I get such wonderful effects! TFS.
Oh yes indeed... the endless joy of the water-reactive Distress products! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi again, I meant to say, I LOVE your tops, the leaves are so pretty, and they go with all your creations. ❤❤
Thanks for putting an extra smile on my face!!
Autumn awesomeness❣️🍁🍁
Thank you so much! Happy you enjoyed it.
How didactic ! I could listen to you for hours ☺
So happy to hear you are enjoying the words as well as the pictures - thank you!
Beautiful inspiration🥰
Awesome leaves Alison, I love the big leaf with embossing folder. I found that if you put a piece of bubble wrap envelope on the paper side of any die with embossing lines it will do both in one step. Easier than running them back with an embossing mat. Thanks also for showing your Instagram, I could not find it.
Ooh, that's a fun tip with the bubble wrap, thank you... I'll have to give that a try. Yes, the big leaf is one of my favourites, for sure. That's the secondary IG account - I think you've tracked down the main one, right? Words and Pictures here - instagram.com/w0rdsandp1ctures/ Hope you're having a great weekend.
@@w0rdsandp1ctures Yes ma'am, thank you, I have just begone on both of those!
Just couldn’t wait to see this one!
Excellent - hope it lived up to expectations!
“Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me,
Fluttering from the autumn tree. “
Emily Brontë
Lovely. Just lovely. And fun too. Happy Autumn all!!! 🍁 🍂
Ah, Emily - absolutely on the money with that one! (Though Anne remains my favourite of the sisters, writing-wise... I know, controversial, right?!)
Happy you loved the autumn leaves - thank you for that and for the poetry!
This is just up my street. I have tried using leaves as stamps but hadn't thought of using leaf cutting dies. Thanks for the idea. I will look into buying some leaf dies.
It's a slippery slope with the leaf dies... as you can see, they're pretty tempting! I've got a lot of leaf stamps too!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Vraiment magnifiques!!et ces fonds... quel talent!!!
Merci, merci beaucoup!
now this is bliss ! thank you
So happy to be offering up bliss!! Thank you so much for taking the time to share that thought.
Allison, this was amazing! Thanks so much!
Oh, brilliant - so it did live up to your hopes!! Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know.
@@w0rdsandp1ctures and way beyond!!
These are so wonderful! 💕💕💕
Thank you - I do love my annual autumn-leaf-making session... happy to share the joy!
I love this, and those colours are just stunning! Autumn is my favourite time of the year for that very reason.
I don't have many leaf dies, but I'm thinking this could work on my Cricut? ❤
I'm not that familiar with the Cricut, but from the little I do know I'm sure you could create fabulous leaves with it!
And yes, I'm absolutely with you on the autumn colour palette... I love it (at least for these few months, and then I move on again!!). Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
Amazing video thank you so much. I’ll go now n search for thinlets and distresssprays 🤣🤣
Even better to hear it twice!! Thanks for taking the time to make sure it got through.
Been waiting for this video!! Yay
That's great to know - hope it lived up to expectations!
Congrats you won a giveaway on Tim Holtz live🥳
Oh wow - thank you so much for popping by to let me know... I had gone to bed by the end of Hoopla II since I'm six hours ahead of EST, let alone Arizona!!
So very pretty
Thank you very much - I love my annual leaf-making sessions!
Loved this ❤❤❤
Great to hear that - thank you!
Wonderful inspiration. Off to find what leaf dies I have.
Hope you have fun with whatever you manage to find! I love my annual leaf-making sessions. Thanks for your company on this creative journey.
Love all these leaves!! Need to order the dies, I’ve been wanting to, I just heard Tim saying they are discontinued, I want to get them while I can.
Oh my goodness... discontinuing the leaves? That's sad news. If you enjoy creating with nature as a theme, I definitely recommend grabbing some while you can.
I think they're brilliant tools for the nature crafter. I mean, an endless supply of beautiful leaves to play with - whether that's fresh spring greens and yellows, rich summer blues and greens, autumnal fire, or shabby grey and brown for winter - what more could anyone want?!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting - happy you enjoyed the leafy loveliness.
@@w0rdsandp1ctures oh I just ordered mine!! My art style goes between nature….abstracts & whimsical …..I tried to combine that, it doesn’t always work.
❤❤
Thank you.
💛💚❤️
Autumn colours always bring out the fun (if not the sun!).
That was meant to say: your SLEEVES not leaves - but how apt was the mistake!!! 😊
That's the mind playing word games - I got it!!
Amazing video thank you so much. I’ll go now n search for thinlets and distresssprays 🤣🤣
Very happy you enjoyed it... it's unfortunate that inspiration and temptation so often go hand in hand where art & craft are concerned!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting and good luck in your search.
