I think I still have to do a few dozen more games to reach Feld or Pfister :D Thanks a lot! It's an extreme pleasure to see your reviews of my games. I had some work to do today, but I had to pause it so I could watch your run through first. I can't wait for you to try Daitoshi, and hopefully you also get to try Neko Syndicate.
Nice reference to Tzolkin, which was indeed a big innovation. Still one of my favourite games, not just for the gears but the gameplay: a great brainburner and tight race on multiple fronts. Small goof: It has 6 gears on the board, not 3 :)
Agree 100%, from the minute I started playing this game I knew it was right in my wheel house. Crunchy decision making with gorgeous art, it’s certainly a contender for game of the year.
Just got into Dani’s designs with Barcelona and I’m already loving it. Looked up the pre-order for Windmill Valley and the Barcelona expansion after seeing the positive reaction WV is getting. Thanks for the video Rahdo!
We managed to pickup the last copy of this at the UKGE (which sold out midday Saturday), and we played there. It's such a surprisingly crunchy and satisfying experience! We all loved it. BTW, You can't use gears to move the wheel 5 times. 1 min, 4 max 😊
I actually bought Arborea (backed) first, but I played Barcelona first due to fulfillment issues. I totally agree that they are fantastic, so I'm looking forward to my pre-ordered Windmill Valley! I did end up selling Arborea (even though my name is in the rulebook as a contributor) only due to usability issues. The icons and fonts were SO small, it put off the group I played it with, and would've made play with my other group nearly impossible. I still rated Arborea an 8+ though, I think we all liked the actual gameplay.
It was the art that put me off Arborea, I loved the idea of the actions getting better but I remember the problems I had with Bitoku's overly busy board. Hamlet's another game let down by overly fussy art. This one looked worse :(
I don't know how those gears "improve" Tzolk'in - they are totally different, in Tzolk'in they are communal puzzles on a shared space, here they are heads-down solitaire puzzles. They spin, allright. But that's about it when it comes to similarities.
Love euro games with a fun and good theme. Wanna get this game when it’s out as I love Tulips in Netherlands. Really enjoyed arborea and Barcelona too. What’s next, Japan, korea or Paris?
I really enjoyed playing this at Dice Tower West but will have to give it a few more plays to see if it ends up beating Barcelona as my favorite Garcia game (can we start referring to Dani by just his last name yet?). 😆
I'm sure Tzolk'in was great back when it was released, but I don't think I played it until 2018 (?) and I find it incredibly boring. Especially when compared to the other "T games" - the buildings... oh I get a bump on a temple track?? 😴The technology tracks?? 😴 And the temple tracks themselves?? 😴😴😴

i'm keen try them both. can you put me in touch with combo games? :)
@@rahdo Sure, fantastic! I've sent you an email.
2:28 There is also now a game called Sprocketforge!
No one reviews like Rahdo.
I always look forward to these.

Looks like those cardboard gears work pretty well in the retail version but those prototype wooden ones at Dice Tower West were sooo nice!

Hoping to catch this one at Origins!

i think we're getting there! :)
He's coming for your crown Feld 😂😅 but yeah, great games!
I am starting to give up on feld as his games usually have pasted on theme.
Where does someone pre order this game? Asking for a friend 😅
well you can preorder direct from the publisher here: boardanddice.com/product/windmill-valley/ :)

It is not a heavy game more medium.
It takes a Rahdo to turn boardgame designers into kingdom that compete in the Game of Thrones. So, what houses are Lacerda and Pfister?
🥷
a lacerda always pays his debts! :)
@rahdo what does that reference make House "I Always Use Debt" Martin Wallace?
