That was the performance of a champion. The new DTM champion Thomas Preining won the last race of the season on Sunday and was the dominant driver of the final weekend in Hockenheim with two pole positions and two successes. In the morning, the Porsche driver was the first Austrian to secure the title with the fastest lap in qualifying. He followed up at midday and ended his outstanding season with a convincing start-to-finish victory. Porsche won their first manufacturers’ championship in DTM history. His closest rival, Mirko Bortolotti from the SSR Performance team, gave everything in the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2, but was unable to significantly threaten Preining and took second place. René Rast achieved a successful end to the season in third place in the Schubert Motorsport BMW M4 GT3.
