BMW M1 ProCar SOUND & FLAMES I 9000 RPM Straight-6 470 HP
The BMW M1 Procar remains a central part of the history of BMW M to this day. Designed as a road-legal racing car, the vehicle not only found its way into private hands as a super sports car. One thing is certain: Even 40 years after the debut of the first race, the BMW M1 Procar still impresses with its highly developed technology, unique design and exceptional sound!

In 1979 and 1980, the BMW Procar series was one of the most spectacular racing series in the world of motorsport. As part of most European Formula 1 races, the five fastest F1 drivers from the training runs of the respective Grand Prix took part in identical BMW M1s and competed against private drivers, well-known sports car professionals and young talents - something that is hard to imagine today, but the series offered a spectacular showdown that was a huge hit with the public.
Formula 1 greats such as Nelson Piquet, Emerson Fittipaldi, Gilles Villeneuve and Carlos Reutemann fought against privateers such as Marc Surer, Manfred Winkelhock and Eddie Cheever. Two of the five drivers, namely Gilles Villeneuve (Ferrari) and Jean-Pierre Jabouille (Renault), were banned from starting by their teams. Renault in particular had no interest in providing BMW with a free advertising platform.
After the BMW Procar series ended in autumn 1980, various BMW M1 racing versions also successfully competed against the competition in Le Mans and various national championships and the American IMSA GTO Championship.

In terms of appearance, the Procar version differed from the street-legal model of the BMW M1 primarily in the large rear spoiler, the clearly flared fenders and the modified front apron. The engine was based on the series engine, but developed significantly more power. The naturally aspirated engine was said to have a good 470 hp. This meant that the BMW M1 Procar could reach speeds of up to 310 km/h. Later, when the BMW M1 was built and developed according to the Group 5 regulations, the inline 6-cylinder petrol engine was put under pressure by means of a turbocharger. This meant that individual vehicles achieved dizzying power outputs of 850 to almost 1,000 hp.

    Die Veranstaltung ist gut für Interessierte um einmal hereinzuschnupern . Wer diese Rally Autos in Action sehen will - bei der HH ist ja nur " spazieren fahren" möglich , dem kann ich wärmstens das Eifel Rally Festival in Daun empfehlen ( 15- 17.08 ) Eine Sache gibt es zu sagen , das betrift aber nicht die HH selbst , , es ist schade wenn man einem Zuschauer den Audi Quattro A2 als " originales Trainigsauto " verkaufen möchte . Bei den beiden Quattros mit MSP Kennzeichen ist nichts , aber auch absolut garnichts original .

      @@Quattroowner Kann ich nur zustimmen. War letztes Jahr zum ersten Mal beim Eifel Rally Festival und werde dieses Jahr auch dabei sein. Du auch? Der A2 ist nicht Original, er ist ein Replica genauso wie der S1 E2 (MSP) Kennzeichen, sowie in der Beschreibung angegeben. Die HH besitz auch Wertungsprüfungen mit Zeitennahme, allerdings nur als Gleichmäßigkeitsprüfung. Das ist in etwa ähnlich zur Eifel Rally, nur das dort gar keine Zeitennahme stattfindet (und man somit für „zu schnell fahren“ auch dementsprechend nicht bestraft wird).

      @@HomeOfMotorsport Naja , ich bin seit 2004 Stammgast bei der Eifel Rally . Früher waren wir immer eine ganze Gruppe, die meisten von uns übernachteten auf dem Campingplatz Dockweiler Mühle, das hat sich leider im Laufe der Jahre aufgelöst. Ich kenne mittlerweile viele der Fahrer, teilweise auch persönlich. Habe mir dort von Rico van der Pool einen Virus eingefangen und über die Jahre selbst einen A2 aufgebaut. Mit diesem ist auch die Teilnahme bei der Eifel Rally geplant. Deswegen kann ich auch sagen, die beiden Audis aus der MSP Gruppe sind gruselige Nachbauten. Für einen Laien der die Autos zum ersten Mal sieht - toll . Kennt man sich etwas näher aus , zum davonlaufen. Beiden fahren z.B. mit einem Bremskraftverstärker von einem Audi 80 oder etwas in der Art . Auch die verbauten Fly Off Handbremsen - gehören da nicht rein . Gab es nie und hätte auch garnicht funktionieren können. Bei der Eifel Rally können und sollen die Autos so präsentiert werden wie sie damals auch eingesetzt wurden. Abhängig vom Talent der Fahrer, es geht um Spaß und nicht jeder ist ein professioneller Fahrer, viele arbeiten täglich hart um sich das zu ermöglichen. Für mich ist die Eifel-Rallye ein großes Familientreffen .

    Nice video. Pitty for that Chevy engine, a Butler would be nicer. Not easy to drive such kind of cars under wet conditions. I own a 1971 trans am 455HO, it stays in my garage when it's raining😁

      @@caspar0777 Thank you🙏. No it’s absolutely not easy. The car was often drifting exiting Sachs-Curve. Also they were on cuttet slicks (not wet tires, more info in the description).

    This Pontiac Firebird has a formula hood but contains also trans am parts. So it‘s a wild mix between Firebird Formula and Firebird Trans Am. Which is contradicting to the presented car details in the video. In the same table it should also be rear wheel drive instead of rear engined.

    This was the era that gave birth to the 455s. I have owned an original 1971 455. Odd choice to put a Chevy block in it, as the "go to" would be the 400/455 series. I own a 535 c.i.d. billet aluminum based on 455-Pontiac build today.

      You have the car listed as "rear-engine". Perhaps you only meant "rear wheel drive", as the engine is definitely not in the rear. Is it really displacing 390CID/6.4L? Displacement in the top TransAm level back then was limited to 305CID/5.0L. Doesn't matter, I suppose, as it could not have raced Trans Am back then with that hood, or with 4 Webers, even if you neglect the displacement of the engine.

    I'm thinking if you were to run them side by side they would be very very close performance wise... They basically share the same or similar dimensions body wise; GT3 R runs a bigger wing for downforce while the RSR has a bigger diffuser underneath. The RSR being true mid-engine while the GT3 R is rear engine that's been slightly angled to fit a larger diffuser than a typical 911 could utilize. That's my assumption/understanding anyway; I could be wrong!

      @STANDARDGAMER-18v Ich finde die GT3 Autos nicht schlecht. Wenn du in ein paar Erinnerungen schwelgen möchtest, empfehle ich dir mein Video zu M3 E30 Rally oder das zum Preis der Stadt Stuttgart oder der Hockenheim Historic, wo alte Tourenwagen und DTM Fahrzeuge gefahren sind.

      @bernd5775 Zum Glück. Ich kann nur vom Hockenheimring berichten, da ich leider noch nicht an der NOS war. GT3 Autos sind für die großen Events (DTM, GTWC, GT Open, GT Masters) nicht gedämpft. Habe Videos von der NLS gesehen und kann dir nur zustimmen. Gerade der Porsche hört sich dann einfach schrecklich an. Dafür hat der Ring abwechslungsreichere Events (mehr historics etc) was das Lautstärkekontingent halt verbraucht. Die Peinlichkeit am Hockenheimring ist das es viel zu wenig Events an sich gibt. Das Problem hat die NOS nicht.

    If a side mirror is 900 would it not be cheaper to instal a camera and a screen instead or is it not authorized? You filmed two overtake wich seem lucky because it does not seem easy to make even one!

      @NicoNyon I don‘t know if it would be cheaper but I don’t think so because it’s simpler to change a side mirror than change a full camera system🤷🏻‍♂️. It‘s not so easy to pass in the Motodrom. You can overtake at the chicane but risk getting reovertaken the next corner. That’s what makes it difficult to overtake and also the fact that everyone is in the same car obviously.

      @@NicoNyon It‘s due to the fact that there are so many cars in close proximity. In Spa there are even more cars!🤯

      @HomeOfMotorsport nice driving. That means with a better qualifying, he can compete at least 10-15 places up the grid. In these single make categories in equal cars you tend to race the people around you on the grid from qualifying. So with his skills in traffic he can move up quickly.

      @PedroCarlosdoss The races are streamed on YT on the Clio Cup Europe channel. He went from P31 to P20 in this race so you could say he cleared the field. Also a lot of penalties involved and collisions as you saw in the video.
