  • The Flagler District of Downtown Miami is undergoing a massive change with reconstruction and revitalization. The District centers around Flagler Street, and is home to many businesses and activity. However, many vacant spaces fill the area, and its future is uncertain. In this video, I walk through the Flagler District and give my insights.

I like the fact that @ActionKid supports small business. Aklan Filipinos buffet . Supports D'oro pizza bar. The Flagler Shopping Mall reminds me of the tunnels and shops under Rockefeller plaza.

It's great that you're documenting see the major renovations that are happening in Flagler District, as this is interesting to watch for now and the future! 😎 20:13 Nice looking courthouse. 26:00 It's always fun to see chickens in your videos, and smart chicken at 29:13! 🐔🐓 I enjoyed seeing the beautiful architectures from the 1920s & 30s along with all the shops and restaurants in the area. Thank you for sharing this informative walk through the Historic Downtown Core, AK! 🤗

Actually the developer wanted the businesses to stay they moved voluntarily because they felt that during the long construction they would loose business, this developer brought up flagler street because he wanted to revamp it in honer of Henry Flagler.

I used to walk around Flagler street and used to work at Burdines in the 1990s up to 2006 when it became a Macy's and it closed in 2018 and now it is a Ross at Flagler street and Miami Avenue. Downtown Miami changed a lot especially Flagler street in the late 1960s and 1970s when people went to do their shopping to the malls in the suburbs where there is still free parking.

@@ActionKid Flagler Street had the best stores in Miami like Burdines which opened in 1898 by William Burdine who wanted to open a dry good store to sell clothes and other items for people in Miami and the American troops station in Miami during the Spanish American War happening in Cuba in 1898. There was Budges hardware store that opened in 1900 and sold tools and building supplies to the public in a three story building made out of brick with Coral Rock trimmings and stood on the Northeast corner of Flagler street and Miami Avenue which is now a Walgreens. Flagler street had four Five and Dime stores like McCorys which opened in 1906 and had a hotel as well. Woolworths opened in 1913 next to the Miami telephone company, T.W. Grant's and the Kress store which was on the site of the old Flagler Station Mall which is run down now. Jackson Bryons opened as the old Red Cross Pharmacy in the early 1900s and there was Sellews Brothers shoe store and many old movie theaters up and down Flagler street.

Very good video except for ROSS that used to be MACY'S for many years & I worked there. After they closed down this store in downtown Ross opened a 2nd location here. The Ross you mentioned on Biscayne has been there for years. Oh MY GOD! LOL! City chickens!

Even though there's construction & vacant storefronts as result I didn't see any homeless that you usually se in NYC, San Fran, LA, Detroit... I use to work there & didn't see much of them.

I work in this area. Every day I walk from the train station to my office at SunTrust which is the area he starts the video. There are many street people that you can't but stumble on them. Some are homeless, some mentally ill, some drug addicts, some alcoholics, some prostitutes. They sleep inside the doors of those vacant stores. I will not go into details as to the sanitary conditions of the sidewalks. All this money being spent on revitalization will be worthless if you don't clean up the human garbage. I'm surprised our Mayor doesn't have that as the first priority. Sad, and I have to work there.

This is not a downtown!!! This is a destruction zone. You should move to San Jose, at least they have a real and viable downtown with Santana Row/Valley Fair 3 miles to the west. Better weather and some nice mountains to hike.

Miami is a paradise of Art Deco period buildings. Even in the hoods you spot them, run down small survivors. Opa Locka is full of Moorish stuff. 🏙
