It’s a good thing that the condition of the fields are being pointed out in public. They still have time to correct it for the World Cup.
I've read that the turf fields will be removed to install the grass fields.
They are going to be replacing the turf after the next nfl season. That’s been the plan 2 years before we bailed out conmebol with a last minute change from Ecuador To us.
Agree. Two years to go, more than enough.
Oh no. They need to change NOW!
@@AAblade7 wasn’t it 🇵🇪 peru
In the most competitive enviorments; precision is key. In f1, for example, the condition of the track is one of the most important aspects of the race.
Can you imagine pele and maradona playing back then
Players like neymar n messi n those who dribble, pass long ball..the speed n shot will be affected
In conclusion, Ale said NOTHING!!
Martinez is correct.... this is one of the biggest competitions in international football and they cant even get the pitch right? What gonna happen at the WorldCup in 2yrs? These things need to change NOW so we dont have a bad WC2026.
The World Cup final will be in dodger stadium 😂
@@KipGuitar1wouldn’t be a bad thing
A true groundskeeper works there
lol 2yrs. a lot can happen in 2 years.
Especially the opening game
In 2 years, they would put real grass on top of ice in some hockey stadiums hosting NHL finals at the same time to save cost. Frugality at its best.
Im from Argentina and have lived in the U.S for over 30 years. I'm a huge American football fan (raiders). It blows my mind that with as much money as the NFL makes that any of their stadiums have artificial turf. The amount of injuries that have happend to teams for example playing in the NY jets stadium is absurd. Such greed is insane. Not to mention thats where Argentina will be playing next. Grass fields should be in the contracts to whatever country hosts any big tournamernts. and Grass fields should be in every stadium in the NFL.
So you missed the 2020 agreement where all artificial turf will be out of NFL stadiums by 2026?
@@AAblade7 by 2026? a lil late but thank god
@@AAblade7 So why not now? It's not hard and it doesn't take much time.

@@piscesman54if I had to guess to give time to teams to switch sense some stadiums it is quite hard to bring in fresh grass.
Football (ie soccer) should be played on grass. Don’t play in a stadium that’s not grass.
Problem solved- We have enough NFL grass stadiums!!
It's simple but they don't care at all about the tournament perhaps it was a mistake to host it in this country who obviously doesn't care about this sport

Other teams also complained. They must take these criticisms into account if they want to have a good World Cup as organizers in two years. They should not prioritize stadium capacity or stadium luxury alone.
Why use artificial grass in the first place?
It’s Because it’s cheaper … uggh same as for USA football the fields sucks
@GiverJene Ball bounces way too much on artificial turf. No1 in Europe likes it. Undersoil heating, a groundsman who takes care of the field...Which is how it should be done.
Money. The US doesn't use grass but Conmebol wanted money.
They did put down real grass for this game but you could tell it wasn’t great
@@UrchinnsAmericans are cheap af
The only sport that has true grounds keepers anymore is baseball and they are guys that have been around for decades. At some point when they are gone there will be few to none left sad to see

The US doesn't care about this sport and it's gonna be a disaster hosting there 😂
@@sebastianmidar5159Agreed.All they care about is the money.

Agree with Martinez, it "appears" lesser because of bumpy fields players cant anticipate it properly and their touch is off and makes it look to the fan that they suck but reality its more difficult than that.
But on fox Stu Holden was making a point to tell us how smoothly the ball was rolling. Kinda sounded like a prompted line at the time, like he was told to say it so people didn’t question the field. But this confirms it.
I mean Stu Holden doesn’t really know he never had a whole season on the pitch he probably forgot
Interesting because Holden ruptured an ACL playing on one these grass-on-turf fields in the Gold Cup.
Stu Holden is just shilling for MLS and U.S. Soccer like a good little boy
Toeing the company line.
I feel like the media are also trying to tell us that the 🇦🇷 - 🇨🇦 match had great atmosphere. It didn't; it generally felt more like a theater event than a ⚽️ match.
I find field turf an abomination and wish it didn't exist. Laying real grass on top is obviously not a great solution. As I understand it, though, for the world cup they are tearing out the turf underneath and laying the grass out afterwards. That sounds better.
The cost for that would be astronomical
@@MaximusTheChosenOneif they aren't willing to do that they should not be hosting. Real football real grass.
@@maxgonzalez214that's what they should've done in this Copa America and every ⚽ tournament they host but no and the players have to suffer unbelievable conditions
i agree, funny i didnt even know what it was until i got older.. then realized it was going in all HS across the country here, and it made me cringe.. i always played on natural grass, never had any issues, and i played in abysmal conditions.. that said, when you get to a higher level, and older, much more chance for injury, and they make money to play, this is a mandatory step to make sure that the health and safety is looked out for these players.. smh, im ashamed of my country for trying to quick fix the situation for coin.. seems to just be the way the US corporation of america is...
I wanted to post a link to a story that mentioned the cost, but apparently that is not allowed. A story I read said that it would cost between $3 million and $4 million to put in a grass field in Atlanta. Other stories I've seen state that the plan is to grow the grass for the World Cup, not just roll out grass on the existing turf.
100% on point. The field was horrible. Wake up, usa… you need better fields.
US called this sport Soccer for a reason. It translates into Cheap Football.
They must have the money perhaps they don't take the tournament seriously 😂

Emi Martinez is right. If the US or any country want football, then get the standards right! It starts with the pitch and the stadium! Please Ale, don't make yourself sound foolish.
Artificial turf should be banned forever from all professional sport feels and training grounds.
Even the NFL Players association, as well as Current and explayers agree that this must change because of injury and other concerns. Just get rid of it and move on.
Since we’re in the topic of things, I hate to see in a soccer stadium, I would also ban those Olympic athletic tracks, they do not add anything important to the soccer soccer game, And they remove the stands so far away from the action in the pitch.
I am glad to see that all the new soccer stadiums do not have one of those horrific things the crowd from the sport.
If you like to run, go your own Athletic multipurpose stadium, Because the truth is almost no one cares about those races anyway.
You can get rid of the Olympics themselves for all I care, just don’t touch football/soccer
A important part of what martinez said is: they had months to do the change and they did it days before the game
They didn’t have months though. It’s not like these stadiums have been sitting around unused.
One hundred percent correct I don’t understand why the USA high schools or colleges go with turf!
Businesses selling the turf, installation, repair etc...in America they sell you what you don't need, and what you need is not an option!
One word: cheap. 😂
Very unprofessional indeed.
It is like tennis play on volleyball court.
The short answer is artificial grass is MUCH easier/less costly to maintain for high schools and colleges. It's like a hard court in tennis vs clay or grass.
That being said, I definitely agree with all those who feel that professional matches, especially prestigious tournament matches, should never be played on an artificial grass surface or one with sod laid on top.
It’s been a complaint for years using artificial turf. I am surprised the FIFA approved the hosting of game turf fields.
Realmente te sorprende? Teniendo en cuenta que a la fifa solo le interesa el billete verde...
The field is horrible
Well what do you expect from a country who doesn't care about the greatest sport on earth hopefully the world cup goes differently 😂
02:10 Because the poor state of the England match had to do with the fact that it was raining all day...not the usual state of the pitch. Why do you even have artificial grass to begin with...???
It's stupid even the NFL players don't like it 😂
NFL players wear metal cleats, which tear up the grass more than the plastic studs on soccer cleats
As a US fan, this is incredibly frustrating. We're always whining about Europe not taking us seriously enough, supposedly being especially discriminatory against our players getting in a team there (except maybe Germany and Italy).
And then we take this obvious cash grab to host a South American tournament, which includes the World Cup winners and one of the best to ever play the game, and we put them on these crappy fields. Apparently it's still a second or third class sport here. This is embarrassing.
I don't think we can complain about not being taken seriously in Europe as long as we keep providing this kind of facility for this kind of tournament.
I mean, remember when US Soccer ragged on Trinidad for their fields? Lol who's talking, USA.
Your comment should be the top comment 👍

Exactly. The US was making an anthill into a mole hill.About the field in Trinidad&Tobago. When the US has worse fields than T&T.
You Yanks still do not get it. You and football (not "soccer")....it is a joke. You should stick to Basketball, American Football, Baseball and Hockey. It is the same as if a European would talk about Baseball and American Football.
I love Hockey, too......my team are the Columbus Blue Jackets....and I even like the US-Hockey team when playing the Hockey-WC.
Ale is so annoying. Why is he making it about Argentina and Messi. The guys just wants to play on better turf. I’m sure they’re not the only ones that would like that. Plus what happens if someone gets injured bc of a bad field.
You must’ve been watching a different video. He literally said everything you wanted him to
My goodness you totally took everything he said out of context. He made it about Messi and argentina to further his point.
Ale makes a great point because these bigger national teams will draw far more attention and if the attention is negative then that can have a far worse impact to the US reputation for providing quality fields.
Imagine Messi getting the injury because of the field. That would affect the competitions bottom line. And in the future these competitions will have second thoughts because the poor fields could cost them money.
Just gotta take a moment to digest what’s being said.
Yup agree with everyone above said. OP must be from US. Soccer is good.
This dude and everyone who liked his comment clearly didn’t understand what Ale said.
Even NFL players a league that brings in $16 Billion annually are saying they want to play on grass the NFL owners need to get rid of these plastic pitches for the benefit of the game and their players they have the money

Yes. And in comparison, USA hosted the cricket world cup last week in New York, and the pitch was AWFUL. Possibly the worst pitch we’ve ever seen, and for games of that magnitude - dont think cricket will return to the US after that embarrassment
dude he never said that ... Martinez said "IF"
Copa America has a lack of talent ! These guys couldn’t make a goal if there life depended on it. Meanwhile in Europe guys are playing hard & not falling on ground complaining which adds up goal counts in the tournament
Without discussion the field was a disaster, you could see the bumps in the grass panels. Not only jeopardize the match, there could be some serious injuries caused by the uneven field
It's crazy, Argentine stadiums are the worst. But the pitch of the worst club of the argentine league has better pitch than the best north american stadium. Give the players a little more love.
I looked at the artificial turf once and decided not to play cuz of possible injury I’m not going to force myself to play for an injury against an opponent or myself. I hope no players get injured horribly from these pitches in this tournament
same pitch (and pitch manager) the 49ers had to deal with in LV for the Superbowl
This ain’t mls this copa America we can complain there no poilicy or fee saying you can’t
this is basically a run-through for the world cup, this is looking bad on the organization for the tournament
I guess we see these big American companies still don't care about the biggest tournaments in sports except when it's NFL 😂
It also was opening game of Copa which has more attention in itself. Also, as a fan I was more appalled with the lack of production quality for copa compared to Euros even though both Fox. No replays, minutes without either announcer speaking, crowd was quiet throughout, no Canadian fans at all it seemed.
American egoism and exceptionalism on full display here
Xavi tried to mention field problems but was made a meme for it. Thats why barcelona is the hardest club to play for. Even the comments here, alot of these people were laughin at the xavi memes saying they were excuses. And thats how media controls the narrative and makes it difficult to do our jobs. Visca barça.
Idk how they can have World Cup here without grass fields
When vince grew up we used to play football on the sea
Did Emi Martinez make a series of offensive gestures after he made that statement?
Seems like they still treat football as soccer .
One of the big differences in football 50 years ago was precisely the fields. Before the reaction times of the players were above a second, today it is 0.3 seconds. That is why it is played at this speed and with this technical quality, because the fields allow it, not before.
It's what they get for deciding money uber alles and holding Copa America in the US.
I mean would u rather they host it in one of the 12 third world countries involved in this tournament 😂

He loves listening to himself
Or you just can't the truth.
They should see the Euros. at some stadiums the turf is actually coming up.
Just going to put this out there Messi has played on artificial Turf while in MLS.
The worse part is we have plenty of nice well equipped 20k seating soccer specific stadiums all over the country but instead they rent out these big nfl venues and can't fill them up because they charge $150 a ticket for nosebleeds. They should either keep the price and move to a smaller venue or keep the big venues but charge less. If not it's going to continue looking like a trash product rather than the beautiful game no matter who is playing.
Those soccer specific stadiums won't work capacity wise for the World Cup and probably not for Copa either.
Dibu was right this time with every single word he said and Ale is joke, I keep telling you…
Copa America has the disadvantage of time. A huge chunk of Asia is asleep when it happens.
The Copa America is the World's oldest international futbol tournament.
Conmebol teams are on another level than Concacaf. Their players are always the best in the world. Alexis Sanchez, Radamel Falcao, Luis Suarez, Ronaldinho, Maradona, etc.
Copa america does NOT belong in the US. That guy is right.

I cant wait for the day, Euros, UCL being played in the US. Give Infantino a few more years, he'd surely force all these Organizations to host their matches in the US, cuz why not, it brings a ton of money.
"Euros aren't comparing themselves to copa america"? Mbappe literally went public last month saying Euros is harder. Do any of these people have any idea of current events?

its already planned in advance that Argentina will win Copa. just as its been decided that Germany have to win the Euros. nomatter the cost.
come back here in a few weeks.. see for yourselves🤢💀💀💀
World Cup and Euros are the top 2 major tournaments on the planet.
Copa America will never be on the same level as the Euros.
A Copa America for all the Americas is far better and more interesting than the average Copa for South America only.
Nobody cares about the Gold Cup. It should be abolished and replaced by an expanded Copa America.
Playing in stadiums with artificial turf doesn't help the cause.
Given the choice of watching Portugal 🇵🇹 in the Euro final or Argentina 🇦🇷 in the Copa final, no conest. Euros win hands down.
I knew this was going to happen it will be a bigger problem during World Cup. The synthetic turf makes money for American owners. It is a major problem for players and fans. Injury to players and fans know it. Artificial grass is much worse than natural. Anybody who says different has his constituents that he is protecting. Totally agree the Copa America should be in South America. But they all want a warm up for the World Cup.
The dumb thing is that there are loads of viable stadiums (large stadiums too) in the US that have natural grass already in place. 90% of MLS stadiums have grass but of course they don’t churn out enough $$ for a tournament like this, so they go with the same soulless NFL stadiums that aren’t prepared or probably just don’t care.
Martinez has an identity issue. Did he hurt himself while dancing on the pitch?
Does he need the spotlight more ??? Also he is a goalie !!! He doesn't move outside of the box more than a few times. He is not running down the pitch !!! Why hasn't anyone else complained ?? A goalie is the only one who is saying it publicly !!!
US as a host is worse than Qatar. Atleast the Arabs actually love football. These guys would prefer a 50% discount at McDonald's than a World Cup final
Totally agree with Emi Martinez and Scaloni. In fact, ALL the South American teams should be hollering at the top of their voices over this issue. There is a very real and present danger of players incurring serious injury, not to mention the degrading effect it has on the quality of the game. I disagree with Alejandro in that the moment you accepted the money, you were accepting this. It could've and should've been included in the contract. But Conmebol management have a string for a backbone. Without the South American teams there is no Copa América. That should've carried enough weight to impose decent playing conditions, including the cancelling of all events in those stadiums 2 weeks before any game. And they're going to have a concert in the stadium where the final is going to be played less than a week before the match? This is arrogant US turbo-capitalism at its worst. Milking the cow till it's dead as doornail.
Is this a REAL post title?? OF COURSE they have a right to complain - the field SUCKS!!!
Bla bla bla bla bla. Is there nothing else to talk about? Those players make millions and all what they do is complain. Of course grass is the best for soccer we all know that, but in the US it's not. Get out there and play. Vamos Argentina carajo.
I think over the years Mexican players who play the majority of their games in America have had 9 players injured because of the field. Its literally almost always in texas at NRg and arligton texas
Don't worry dibu, dad fifa will have your backs! It gives your goat and his kids more excuses to tumble and get a penalty.
The grass should have been added at least two weeks earlier. The problem is not only for Argentina, but for every team wich try to move fast the ball.
We won the match, it isn't a complaint from a loosers... a jounalist with no experience playing in the top level can't tell that Martinez and Messi are wrong
The fields suck, tell how it is. And when Scalloni or Bielsa opened their mouth they get threats from you know who. A total disaster, a small group just pocketing money and telling everyone to shut up.
Turf is great for training complexes and rec leagues because it's durable and provides a consistent surface year round that isn't affected by changing weather conditions. Trying to pass it off as pitch for professionals is an embarrassment to US soccer. The stadium sponsors, the club owners, and the league execs should all be ashamed.
Why did they host the tournament in a country that doesn't even care about football in the first place? It's sad that 2026 world cup will be held there but i hope mexico and canada at the least provide some quality pitch for the beautiful sport. .
Yes. Next question?
So incredibly embarrassing. It’s not enough for some of the our biggest teams in our top flight league to play their home matches on plastic grass or in a mf baseball stadium. Nah we just gotta keep finding new ways to make our fans embarrassed to even rep the sport
Bad Quality fields slows the game down, benefiting the worse team since they cannot play at a high intensity level. Making more likely to get pass accuracy down making less beneficial for the stronger team to hold the ball since passing is going to lead to more mistakes.
Ugh... wait to miss the point Sr. It came out of the Mbape's mouth when he said that American soccer, as in the continent, cannot compare to Europe. There have been comments made about stadiums and fields as well. What Dibu is saying is right. It is bad enough that we lose our brightest athletes to their leagues because of capital and what not... if the fields are not perfect for an event of this magnitude, then we are selling ourselves short.
NFL player have always hated the artificial grass players were running on to the field and tearing their acl or just tearing a muscle now look what happened to Edson Alvarez a non contact injury
Every right to complain don't be sarcastic, players are sweating it out in the humidity, plus bad pitch is no joke
Yes. He is correct. These are some of the better players in the world. I keep on saying players must demand better fields. One of these days, it will result in a bad injury. My message to the players is that if you decide to boycott these games, a true fan wouldn't mind that.
He is right.
If you don't understand what he is saying, you should be watching another sport, seriously.
