good evening brother, I hope you and your family are in good health, I am Indra sfn Indonesian UA-camr asking your permission for your video reaction to educate many people about your experience while in Malaysia. thanks for your attention
I studied and lived in Toronto for over 5 years years ago. I remember in the first few months of my arrival in Canada, I was visiting Niagara Falls and looking in awe at this magnificent natural wonder. Then I reached out into my jacket for a lolly. Unwrap it and thought I had put the wrapper back in the pocket and started walking. Just a few seconds later, I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see an older lady pointing at a lolly wrapper on the ground. She said, "You dropped that. It's yours. If you don't want it, you can throw it in the bin over there." And walked away. I was so embarassed. I'm not a litter bug but the way she politely but firmly told me not to litter at Niagara Falls or anywhere for that matter made me so small 😅 That was 40 years ago! I've taught my kids and grandkids not to litter. One of the many life lessons I learnt in Canada
I have quite a similar story..when I was visiting South Korea for the first time in 1994, a friend of mine threw his cigarette butt on the ground..Suddenly I saw an old lady came to pick it up n gently took my friend's hand n put it back in his hand while smiling n bowing a little and left..she didn't say anything because at that time S Korea wasn't really opened to foreigners n almost no one spoke English (in fact we could hardly see any foreign brands or even foreigners around except maybe one or two at itaewon)..
Wow. What an experience! My mother had never been anywhere outside the state of Sarawak but she always reminded us not to litter. It's not just that she told us but the fact that she actually practiced it made us the way we are now. whenever I eat something and left with the wrapper, the memory of my mom keeping our food wrappers whenever we were outside, came to me. Those moments when we didn't have our own transportation and went anywhere by bus and my mom would carry a small plastic bag full of our food wrappers until we reached home. Not sure if she did it because there were less trash cans in public places at the time or she was just wanting to bring the trash home but it's difficult to think she did it for the latter lol. Come to think about it, I should just ask her 😅
Your story and the replies that follow seem to have one thing in common, that is, some elderly ladies always come out to remind the public the practice of civics.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video, part two of your experience in Malaysia. Home is definitely a comfort zone, while living abroad opens up your mind.
U guys already know this, Canada has been a developed country for quite a long time, while Malaysia is still a developing country, rapidly progressing esp in KL n d Klang Valley, d greater part of KL. One thing that is still one of d best things in Malaysia is d cost of living for westerners.
At first, there was a lot of skepticism over the use of indelible ink for our election. Many thought that it creates distrust towards the electoral system, makes to voting process annoyingly longer, health issues (it's silver nitrate, so I guess many vampires here in Malaysia lol) and so on. Heck, some even raised the issue that somebody will make a profit off supplying those inks and what not. But eventually it became a symbol of pride. "Yeah, I voted and this my proof!" Even small kids painted their fingers to look like their parents or older siblings!
Welcome to Malaysia... Please come to East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia to Trengganu,, we have great culture and Beautiful places, islands and beaches like Pernentian island and Tioman island in East Johor
Many years ago, the indelible ink was initially introduced as a deterrent to “phantom voters” (a dirty tactic used by the ruling political party, where migrant workers were reportedly hired to cast votes using deceased Malaysians’ ID numbers). Nowadays, we rarely hear about phantom voters anymore, thanks to electoral reforms. However, the indelible ink system is still in place as a unique feature/tradition of Malaysian elections ☺️ Voters proudly take selfies with their inked fingers after they’ve voted. Hope the above clarifies ❤
Now I understand what it means by 'Power Center'. We have one here which is called Ikano Power Center but it's not the same like the one you mentioned, it's a massive indoor mall.
Welcome to Malaysia. We celebrate each other festivals like Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali & Christmas by visiting their open house. Our non- muslim friends with serve their guests with Halal foods.😋 As Kelantanese, l am enjoy food like nasi dagang, nasi kerabu , laksam, satay etc that served by my host during these festivals.
Great reaction guys....yes WhatsApp is so common now Malaysia it even used in biz communication and making calls using WhatsApp is free and is helps to reduce the bills for companies as well despite sometime is not reliable but, hope will much better after Govt move to 5G...
I think mask wearing is much more prevalent in east asian countries in comparison to North America is because in the former communal action is valued more than individualism. Also US public health policy in particular was compromised by politicization.
I am now in KL but used to study in SUNY at Buffalo.. i would travel to Toronto so very often and would also stop by in Hamilton .. welcome to Malaysia 🇲🇾
Actually the finger dye election thing, India was doing it way before Malaysia. We even imported the dye from India if I am not wrong. Anyway enjoy your stay.
ooh I remember that purple dye on the finger ! I visited Indonesia years ago and I was wondering why everyone had that purple dye on their finger, and it turned out they just had an election a couple of days ago.
Greeting from Kanata! Cost of living is a lot cheaper in Malaysia, food is of course a lot tastier can cheaper too. The election dye is not new, it’s used in Africa as well
Cost of living is a lot cheaper! I have visited South Africa - Cape Point, Capetown and another place (I forget where), about a 6 hour drive on the Indian Ocean. We went there for a safari. It was such an incredible trip! I'd love to go back there.
My sis dipped her inked finger in clorox solution and 99% of the ink came off.. it irritated her skin slightly but its actually really easy to take off the ink ..
not many countries still calling thier size of thier house in sqft, TV sizes by inches, country midway by miles stop, land area by acres, engine output by briz horse power, selling a goldbar by 37.5g..
Even as you marvel at the third level of security you noticed, there is still cheating going on. During the last Federal Elections held in 2022 I went to my voting centre to vote. There was this elderly voter who came to vote before me arguing with the election officers. Incidentally, someone else had voted earlier using her identity. She showed her Malaysian identity card (MyKad) and her clean and spotless index figure. She still was not allowed to vote. They took her complaint and as usual it would be swept under a heavy carpet. That is why, it is very important to come out early to vote. We call these voters who use other people's identity or fraudulent identity as Ghost Voters.
I've been to western countries...I don't want to comments much...bcos its totally different fr my country Malaysia...the environment totally different, climate, culture, attitudes, behaviour,...i jus want to give some experience not actually really BAD....one evening as I was walking along the street...to my astonish...one lady..in a sports attire...I suddenly took off her shirt infront of me....and change her
There’s absolutely a general lack of respect for modesty in the west. Especially as workout culture has become so much more prevalent. Women walk around in the equivalent to bras and underwear without giving a second thought to it. Much different from how women dress in Malaysia, right?
Ghost voters was a big issue so extra layer of security by dyeing index finger is necessary. People can use others id card and vote on behalf, like the same issue with the ghost who sat in an exam for other, for a fee, of course!
North American strip mall and outlet premium are popular… big mall not popular… I know all popular is outdoor mall … beach town is famous in North America… malaysia not have beach town …
Welcome to Malaysia, hope u enjoy our culture and abundance of food, the WhatsApp is only true to if the communication is between Malaysians, if due to work concerning China, we'd use wechat, recently telegram is also gaining popularity, , the index finger ink thing was due to massive complains of ghost/repeated voters during past elections
nice analysis guys...yes Malaysians are lazy and we hate the hot and humid weather, that's why we have a giant shopping mall where most of us hang out at :) enjoy your stay here~
I wouldn’t have thought Malaysians are lazy at all. It makes more sense regardless of weather to have a large mall rather than stores spread apart that require driving to IMO.
Whats the differences in Canada and Malaysia if you need to go to a private clinic or dentist. In Malaysia you can just walkin see the doctor/dentist, pay and get you medicine. In my town one clinic even close at 12 midnight.
i did my study abroad in cardiff....when i landed the first time in heathrow... as a malaysian the first thing that is different from us here is the toilet doesnt have water taps...just tissues so... i change my mind and wait till i settle in my accomodation....than the next day i was my shirt on th floor o my bathroom then the water just dissapeared....and got a complain from the flatmate down stairs saying leaking from above my room...than i realise where the water went....hahahaha...coz here in malaysia because of the heat we use concrete as the slab...where in western country they use asbestos as the slab i suppose coz it absorb the liquid
hi marisa saw ur video just now... just curious.... is the mask wearing/ not wearing thing a big deal for westerners still? is it related to some westerners thinking that covid is a hoax all along.. and that wearing masks curbs their freedom n rights? anyways... enjoy ur stay here... be safe always please

Do you mean you’d like to film a reaction video to our video? If so, go ahead. Thanks for asking in advance.
That PIN thing is brilliant. And the finger dye too. I love clever and simple solutions to problems.
Right? Sometimes the simpler, the better.
Welcome to mlysia guys..experience our warm tropical climate..local cuisine..local fruits ..and our beautiful beaches esp..in Sabah..have a nice stay..

Yeah. TQ Sir. Nxt time pls consider to come again..in the near future..

Because it rains a lot here and it is hot. So we hv night markets and huge malls

BTW, besides dyeing index fingers, we do check voters for their IDs too.
Oh yes we know. This is an added layer of security that is brilliant (IMO).
FYI, Ontario to KL is like 10,000 miles away, not 5,000 to 6,000 miles.
👍🏻👍🏻
In South Africa we also have the purple dye mark on our right thumb during voting times.
Such a clever idea
During pandemic when lock down, we are working on digital, all documents signed/approved thru WhatsApp. Super easy and efficient!
Very efficient!

Yes, during GE14. I am not sure who supplied us the dastardly stubborn dye 😁 this time around.
