Forgot to mention, grab a replacement knock sensor off eBay just in case you bash the one next to the starter motor! 👌🏻 Hope you enjoyed the video everyone 😊
How much did ur starter cost abs where did u buy from
Mate
@@scotttaylor6827 can't remember the amount but just got it from a breaker on eBay
Awesome I’m stuck on the last bolt as in the bottom left one
@@scotttaylor6827 absolute nightmare mate
@@FNLEW did u say u threaded the lace through the first gap and pulled towards u
I am not a mechanic myself and I have to take a bow for you my friend, you are brave! Great video! Thanks for being a front-figure for us non-mechanics :D
Thank you so much mate that really means a lot 😁
This is, one of your best videos well done mate I've watched it a few times now and thanks for sharing
Thanks very much mate. No problem at all and thanks for watching.
Mate its an absolute ball ache I attempted it a while back! Glad you did a video cause there wasn't any on when I did mine.
I agree mate. Glad you found it helpful 👍🏻
Nice one Lewis. You have made me proud getting stuck in like you have . When working on a car always take your time . I will bring home from work my battery tester and multimeter to check for any drains on the battery. Take care and see you soon .
Thank you. We'll get to the bottom of it eventually. You too see you soon.
Thanks for this video helped me diagnose my fn2 tonight it's going in dynodaze on Monday for a new starter motor
Awesome that I could help mate! Hope it solves your issue 👍🏻
At the moment I can only push start it as it won't fire up off jump leads, but we all booked in now so will be sorted out soon
Did u try jump starting ur civic using jump leads and nothing? And did it almost sound like a bearing type sound? When urs gave up
Well done for getting stuck in, best way to learn and understand 👏 👍
Cheers mate. I do agree 😁
Lewis this was a great video and honestly well done for doing that yourself. That was inspirational to watch. And thanks for sharing and trying to make it easier for someone else to do theirs. Awesome job. 👍
fortunately my starter motor was covered under warranty when i bought mine. but its good to know that this job doesnt seem too difficult, just time consuming. Lew, your a legend. i love your work and vids, if you ever get round to it, id like to see an exhaust manifold install. i have one waiting to go on, but seems a bit daunting, but i may try it my self in august when i have 2 weeks off.
also went to blyton park outer circuit track day a week ago, fastest time was 1:23.80. i have room for improvement with better tyres and possibly traction control off. ill be arranging a track day at brands hatch if you interested in coming, sometime end of this year or begining of next. would be cool to meet you :)
That's a good job then mate. Thank you man! I'd like one in future but it's not my priority at the minute. A ramp would really help installing that. Good job mate, I don't know about track time soon but if I make it to any shows I'll be posting it everywhere mate so if you're ever at one, please don't be afraid to say hi. ☺️
Well done dude getting stuck in. Interesting viewing too
Thank you buddy!
If after all that and it still draws power
Check your boot light!
Take your parcel shelf out and lock up the car, if the boot light is still on that’s the problem. I had this on mine
I don't know if it's drawing power yet. I've only cranked it over the one time on the video. When it's back running I'll see if it develops again over time.
Have you tried taking the starter off from the bottom
Hi! Great video, noticed that you changed the grill clips with screws... nice! any particular name or model? thanks
Hi, thank you! They're actually some spares from an MJC Automotive dress up kit.
Well done... you should upgrade the inlet manifold while off, i had a paracidic drain on my battey, and i changed the stater motoer and it still ever solved it, it solved its self in the end3
Thanks mate. It's getting something don't worry 😉. Ahh well at least it's one thing fixed.
@@FNLEW thanks for the reply, its nice to hear back 👌 😄
Great video mate. Always enjoy the content. Funny enough I had the same problem you had in this month with my car. I also bought a new battery at first only to find out it was the starter. A nice way to test your starter would be to hit on it. That should allow the car to start a good few times. Mine ran for a week after hitting it. I also removed my starter from the bottom. It was a bit of a struggle because its in a tight position but all I needed to remove was my stabilizer bar. I decide to recondition my starter instead of getting a 2nd hand one.
That's good to hear mate and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Well done mate, you should feel proud considering your limited mechanical knowledge but you got involved and done some research! Good effort 👌🏻
Thanks so much mate! Propper chuffed with it ☺️
Cool video..
I've got a question thats very off topic 🥴.. do you know how to adjust the headlight aim.. i havent got a dial/nob in the car to adjust where the light is aimed on the road... any idea how to do this?
Hmmm 🤔 there's usually a dial on the dash to the right but there's also twisty knobs under the bonnet above each light too.
@@FNLEW thanks mate. I'll check it out
fair play young man for giving it a go
Thank you mate!
Love your videos.. do you know where to run the cable from the sub through to the battery does it need to go through the firewall or is there a gromet somewhere cheers
Thanks. I'm not sure mate I've never installed one, sorry.
has to go through the firewall dude, its near where the steering rack goes through
this why I prefer the ep3... Nice video!
Hey dude stuck on the silly bracket took one bolt out 12mm by startermotor however manifold won't come out i feel to take other bolt to the left out however no socket seems to go in. Did you just do one bolt to the right or the left one, there's 2 by the starter one on left and right
Your Videos always lighten my day hope ur ok with ur health. ❤️ Keep up the great content. JDM 👌🏻🤤❤️🔥🇯🇵
Aww thanks so much mate 😁. Will do bud 👍🏻
Hi mate hope u and family are all good? The coolant fluid did u put it back in via the rad cap and not have to bleed system etc?
Hi mate, all go thank you. Same to you. Yeah just straight in the rad. I will say though my air vent temps we're all over the place afterwards and I realised I hadn't filled the separate reservoir that's behind the front bumper. Fill that to the max line aswell.
Lew get yourself a new set of bolts and get rid of the nasty rusty ones for the grille etc. Will make a big difference buddy
Yeah I did think that 😬
My last civic took two trys to start up sometimes and it would make noise after it started or sound like it was having a hissy fit but started. I had no battery issues. However my mum had issues where the battery got drained once on my mum's jazz. But hasn't happened since which is strange just fixed by itself lol.
Did you manage to use the same gasgets and get your car working again?
I would of bought new ones for my peace of mind.
Hmmm that's strange.🤔
I haven't got them back on yet but I've been told you can as it's mainly air passing through. No harm in replacing them though 👍🏻.
@@FNLEW im just saying i would be worried but as you said its just air passing through. Im also no mechanic.
also you going to do a video you putting it back together?
Ive had issues with mine taking 2 presses to start and the odd noise after it started, souunds like a bit of overun
Now my car just went dead completly, just a click... any ideas??
Great vid, you’re a braver man than I!
Haha thanks mate 👍🏻
When you had everything out, where was the knock sensor and could you see a path from underneath as I don't really want to go from the top? I know it was awhile ago but any small insight would help.
It was bang next to the starter motor itself. Would definitely be better going from underneath 👍🏻
@@FNLEW ahh ok that's good to hear I'll give it ago from underneath. Just need to figure out how to get the undertray off without breaking it. Thanks for your help.
@@jackhunter4502 no worries at all mate. Good luck!
17:59 hell yea! That's where vtec happens!!!
Just as an update, my electrical drain hasn't returned since I fitted the starter motor 3 months ago so I can confirm this sorted my issue!
Hi mate did you torque manifold bolt if so what torque? Thanks
Hi mate. I don't believe I did and I've had to tighten them up since so if you can find the specs somewhere then go with them.
I always enjoy your videos
Thank you mate!
Hi mate when ur car died and u tried jump ur car, did it sound almost like a bearing spinning? And sis u have any dashboard lights?
Hi mate. No lights and did sound like a spinning which was the starter motor just spinning
Nice Vid again. Thumps up from Germany mate. Btw , Can someone tell me if you are able to change the ac Compressor from abvoe? Or do you Need to get under the car ? Thx for help :)
Get the right spec battery on. Also while your starter is off you should have checked the chamfer on the flywheel.....there is a Honda bulletin about flywheels causing starting problems
Ah I'll check if it happens again. Been running perfect since.
Mate? Could you not get to the starter motor from underneath??
I had a mechanic mate of mine change the alternator, undone the bolts from underneath and wiggled it out from the top..
I would have done mate but like I said in the video, getting underneath wasn't an option.
@@FNLEW ahh, sorry mate... i did watch the video fully last time, but only parts this time 😳 😂😂😂
@@astonrichardson4309 haha no worries mate. I forget and I edit them 🤣
@@FNLEW 😂
I have a problem first time it died didn't even attempt starting new battery fixed it but now sometimes I go to start it in morning it doesn't attempt to start then I have to push button again for it to start.
I had to change my clutch slave the other day and damn I'm quickly realising how tightly packaged everything is!! Damn what a nightmare just for doing a starter 🙈 Considering it's such a bitch of a job would a brand new starter be better? Great vid great job 👍
Hi Lew, I had ongoing battery issues with mine, replacing the battery every 12 to 18 months. It turns out I was being supplied the wrong aftermarket batteries. You need a CCA value of 450 and 50Ah capacity, I notice you have a Halfords one that is 380CCA & 45Ah, this link is for the OEM one
www.yuasa.co.uk/batteries/automotive/ybx5000-silver-high-performance-smf-batteries/ybx5053.html
You can get good deals on GSF car parts.I paid £50 with the discount code, since I fitted the Yuasa one, I've had zero issues with the battery going flat, plus it has a lip on the + terminal so it clamps properly the aftermarket ones won't tighten fully.
Hope this info helps and nice video..... Keep up the good work👍
Hi mate thanks so much for the help. I made sure I got the same spec battery as the one I had before and that was working for 3 years. But I'll definitely look into that if it continues 👍🏻
Lew, can you not get the starter off from underneath? I may need to get mine out but havnt looked underneath yet
My starters fairly new but car just went dead. I gonna have battery tested first as thats fairly new too but isnt a honda one.
Im thinking im gonna have get starter off to test it off the car, but watching your video it seems way too much work just to get at the starter....
Cheers
It's loads easier underneath mate. I just couldn't do that on my drive.
@@FNLEW thx, ive got mine jacked up in the drive, got the large 17mm bolt out, but i cant even see the 2nd bolt that holds the starter in.... Theres defo 2 bolts hold it on yes?
Is the other one the 14mm that you mention?
Cheers
The bolt head sticks out really long on a stall and it's directly behind the starter towards the engine.
@@FNLEW its not that long thin gold/brass coloured one is it that has the long thin stem that gos along the length of the starter body?
I can see it but it looks like that is there to hold the thin metal plate around the back of the starter body?
Cheers
@@jt6945 that's the exact one mate
Mine has done this in the 6 years I've had it, the most it's done the whirring noise when it doesn't engage is 5 in a row, doesn't do it all the time just now and again, common fault. If the started motor you got is a refurb it will keep doing it unfortunately.
Yeah mate it's definitely unavoidable. I know someone who's had a handful of used and new aftermarket ones and they've had more longevity with the used ones so it's just a chance I took.
@@FNLEW should of said, while you had it off you should of got the rrc intake manifold, from everything I've done that made a massive difference. Skunk 2 probably the same.
I have just replace my starter motor, I did it from underneath, I did it in a afternoon. I think it's way easier form underneath than top
It 100% is easier from underneath. Unfortunately I didn't have the option on this occasion.
Mate where do I get a starter for the FN2 can you link me
It was used off eBay mate. Look for them on there and just check they're a breakers yard with good feedback.
Did yours not start first time mines starting to do it almost like it’s sucking air no tick over
I feel like it did mate. Not sure what your situation is 🤔
@@FNLEW my battery is fine but it’s doing this so I’m going to change the starter motor
Tell you what you've put on a bit of muscle in the last 6 months or so.
Haha I'd like to think so mate. Must be all that sim racing 😂
Hi Lew, saw this the other day, may not be the issue for you but as a vid on how to find/ check battery drain it may help. ua-cam.com/video/8IXxJEPUgHA/v-deo.html Good luck
Thanks for the help mate !
Good video apart from annoying pointless music. You own a Type R you are already cool without trendy pop music
