My car has the same fault today. I’ve taken it to a very reliable local mechanic but this was good to watch to see what is involved in the repair. Don’t think I could tackle this myself!

Glad I wasn't the only one with a tough time on my Rear N/S ABS Sensor.
FWIW, I doused the retaining bolt in fast penetrating oil multiple times, wire brush it and knocked off any heavy caked rust with an old chisel.
I think the socket I used was either smaller or larger by one size than recommended too.
When it came to removing the sensor, I too felt the inability to pull from behind. So I chopped the front protruding from the hub off directly with a chisel, then rotated the disk hub so one of the holes lined up with where the sensor was, and with a hole punch and hammer (having removed the retaining bolt on the other side), tapped it through.
I went to drill out like others had recommended and the drill bit came too close to the teeth under the sensor for my liking (I'm in construction so I'm very familiar with using a drill).
Hence I opted to leave that route and punch it through.
Before putting the new one in, I got a round file and made sure to remove any gunk in there, and put some grease on the sides of the sensor to help it through. Wiping any excess off once in place.
Otherwise a success and your video will definitely assist, I managed to get some step by step photos from Civinfo but videos definitely tell more of the story, so this will help others tremendously.
Not to mention that inadvertent crap that happens haha. Top man.

It just cost me 210 pounds at a local garage for the front passenger side one =/. I have absolutely no knowledge about mechanics, so I had to do it.
It started a few months ago showing me the error in the dashboard and after turning the car off and on again, it disappeared. Then it did it again for 3-4 times in the next 3-4 months, and finally it stayed on completely for about 1 week until I decided to take the car to the local garage, as the brakes were so bad! (even if I changed all discs and pads one year prior). I think the whole ABS and VSA systems were OFF. Car was really unsafe.
Now it's much better! =D Though I have to do something about the rear callipers as the wheels get hot from time to time, they might get stuck or something. Ohhhw, it drives me crazy, but I love this car, no matter what.

    • @EvoBeard
      @EvoBeard 3 роки тому

@@user-ok1xz5if4j Yeah for sure it's a great and reliable car, just needs looking after.
As for your rears getting hot, it's likely either the slider pin needs greasing (maybe a boot is cracked, you'd have to check), or your retaining/spring clips are gripping the pad too tightly. This is caused by caked up rust and much where they sit. The pads should slide in the metal spring clip very easy.
When I replaced my boots and slider pins I had the same issue. Had to get a flat file and file the caliper where the spring clips sit down until the pads moved nicely (add some copper grease after filing it down).
This can be done without removing the brake line but you will need a piston tool to wind it back in. Maybe see if you can borrow one or if you have a mechanically minded friend with tools that you can both do the job with. :)

I ended up having to drill the rear sensor out of my 2.2 Civic back plate. One thing to note, the warning on mine didn't go off until the car was driven. I used a ebay HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) to diagnose mine. It would be worthwhile for you to get one. They're very easy to use.

I just used a flat edge screwdriver, put it through one of the holes in the hub, then smash it 2 or 3 times with a lump hammer, sensor out. all be in it a few pieces but completley out, took like 30 seconds
Then clean the hole up a bit with a small round file etc.
And put some grease on the back plastic part of new sensor
