Thanks for this easy torturial. I've just flipped my 30 ton jack in maybe an hour, including welding the new plug etc. Way beter for a press than to use all those clumsy return springs etc when using an bottle jack in its original setup.
I love the creativity involved here. Instead of having machines perfect for every type of machining problem, you use standard tools that everybody has to solve problems. This is on the other scale of all the high-gloss high-class stuff you see around youtube where people seem to want to show off all their tools. Well done and thank you for taking the time to document the process!
Agreed. I get a kick out the “DIY” guy who are all like well first we’re go over to the lathe that everyone has in their back pocket , the well go over to the CNC…. This gentleman is real. At least. I make my own stuff all of the time and still learned a couple things.
Hi Home Crafter, there is a company in Australia that sells hydraulic presses with an up side down jack that they modify themselves. They also change the small pump around so that the pump works on the down stroke not the up stroke like yours. The seals at the top of the ram and the top of the pump need to be in good condition as normally the oil flows down away from them and so don’t leak much but when you turn the jack up side down they are immersed in oil all the time so they can leak. I have had to replace the seals in mine but it’s an easy job. Excellent video and I love your creative solutions to problems. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Good day brother .that is better then my system i will remake my press in the future and i will separate the pump from the ram to use it like yours. thanks 👍
You don't need to modify anything, just insert the lever from the other side and your pump will work on the down stroke. The Polish company SKAMET also makes such presses with bottle jacks in the reverse position.
I looked for a way to make hydraulic press and your video appeared. Your explanation of how to do things and why you do them is excellent. Your workmanship with limited tools shows your creativity. I like people who troubleshoot and find a less expensive way to do things instead of giving up and buying a tool. Great video! I subscribed and will share.
This is a great video. I’ve always wanted to open up a hydraulic jack. It’s amazing what you can build out of your own stuff when you have the time and or need for it. Thank you.
I made a press with this kind of jack but I left it upright; all I did was weld a plate to the top of the jack and mounted it like that. In my opinion, why risk the leaks? It has worked without problems for over 20 years.
Next time instead of holding the jack in the vise to remove the large nut just use the vise to grip the nut in the upside down position and just turn the entire jack instead. Much easier that way brother. But don't get me wrong you did great on the jack!
you made 2 errors in that conversion, the first one is to not seal the pressfit of the copper tube in the base of the jack, the second one is to rely on the Oring on the jack cover gland to insure the oil tightness when the jack is in reversed position, a spring loaded oil seal is a must. I learned it the hard way. good video.
It's amazing what you can do with a piece of wire, a sheet of corrugated iron and some imagination... I liked it when you said the hammer is a very useful tool... You don't use brute force or muscles you just get a bigger hammer Is there anyway of connecting a pressure gauge to the jack or press to show how much pressure is being created 🤔. Just an idea Great work . Giday from Australia 🇦🇺
Yes it is. I wanted to buy a press last year, didn't do it. Looked this week, price had doubled. So, 30 tonnes bottle jack and the trick from this video it is.
if there is any improvement to be made , than its having the press work from underneath , a million more possebilities ... so turning the jack upside down is loosing strategy
I have tried inverting hydraulic jacks before, and they never work! Like the fluid in them drains to the other side, and they won’t pump. But they have enough fluid in them, because they always work just fine the right way?
I'm using my hydraulic jack on my press inverted for two years and I found out that I need to keep the return valve closed and the pump handle down 👇 ready to pump .Sometimes I don't use it for months but when I do it always works
After all this !!! Should took 10 mins more and finish the jack probably so the Handel will pump the sameway it did befor the chang over ,,,, does lifting the handel and press easier 😮😮😮
It would of been easy to just cut off the piston off the 3ton and get square like tubing weld a small channel iron on each side and weld the 3 ton piston in the center and weld a plate for base to mount the hydraulic straight up you can also put return springs if wanted. 👍👌✌️💯🛠️
You have to make sure that it's a multipositional jack. You are correct in that the cheap jacks won't work upside down. The labour in this video isn't worth it, just buy a press or build a frame type that takes a bottle jack without the hassle.
Thanks for this easy torturial.

I love the way you think outside the box to overcome the challenges of not having the exact tools.

I like how he solved the problem of air going to the top. Where the pickup usually is.
Thanks
You do genius work …I love watching your videos

Yep, I love the detail in the video, but I'm a bit lost as to why it needs to be inverted to use as press?
Thanks. This way I don't need other parts to use it.
great video, thank you for sharing your knowledge.....Paul in Florida, USA
Thanks Mr Brown Mohamed from Algeria

good video.
Great work,very good explaned! 👍
Thank you 🙋
Really Good, Great Work. Love it.
Thank you brother
This is a good technique 👍!
Thanks 👍
Good work, skillful man.
Thanks
The hammer next to the crowbar are the best tools ever.
Old muffler man's motto, "don't force it, get a bigger hammer".
It's amazing what you can do with a piece of wire, a sheet of corrugated iron and some imagination...

You don't use brute force or muscles you just get a bigger hammer

Great work . Giday from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks Andrew your brother from Algeria
Nice job man. I think I'll just use the press upside down.
You must fit a one-way valve in that long pipie to assist with flowback
Die sind der Beste unter der Sonne!
Tbark allah 3elik a khoya,
Top, já fiz e ficou bom
So you drilled a hole, put a pipe in a different hole, no addition of any check valve? And only other thing was drill an oil fill hole?? Confused
Good job, nice video and great explanation, I like your way of doing things.
Thank you and vive l'algerie❤
Thanks weld bladi 1,2,3 vive l'Algérie
Nice job Mr.👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Thanks 👍
Nice job
Thanks
Пробку надо было хотя бы на 16 мм приварить, чтобы со шприцом не заморачиваться . А идея и исполнение- достойные!
Good video,👍👍👍where did you buy the seals?
Thank you in advance.
From France
Thanks. It's car engine sealer from any car part seller
" nice conversion 👍👍🇺🇸 "
Thanks brother
Very nice work
Thanks brother
good job.
but I have a question what is the point in inverting the jack. it can be used in it's original position
Thanks I did this so I dont use more steel then I need and use directly the piston of the jack
really enjoyed your vjdeo
Thanks 😊
you make a first rate video ,,, like the music too
Thank you brother ❤️
No preço que ta uma prensa é muito válido a idéia super top

Using your impact hammer punch tool to open it.

Is it enough one 9mm pipe? What about other ?
You can use a smaller size even 6mm it will fit without drilling
@@TheHomecrafter1988 I mean other drain hole, close or open?
After all this !!! Should took 10 mins more and finish the jack probably so the Handel will pump the sameway it did befor the chang over ,,,, does lifting the handel and press easier 😮😮😮
I have big piston. It has large diameter.
правильно, что сделал отверстие выше бывшего заливного, иначе не качает
Question! why can't you just mount the jack facing down on a steel frame and use as is? Great video though!
Thanks. I flipped it so I use less steel in the press
Liked the video but not the music.
thanks I'll not use it in my next video
@@TheHomecrafter1988 Thanks. I will subscribe.
Very clever.....yet why not just install the jack the right way up? That's what I did to make a press.
Thanks. This way I will use less steel and i can slide it from side to side
आप lock plyaer से भी फिक्स कर सकते थे होल क्यों किया?😮

I heard these dealing balls work on gravity?🤔
They work under pressure and there is a thin washer that acts like a spring to keep them in place

Upside down jack don’t work
yes they do work if you did this modification and i have a press build on my Channel and I'm using it for a year now this way without a problem
Yes it does. My press has an up side down jack for many years and works perfectly.
You have to make sure that it's a multipositional jack. You are correct in that the cheap jacks won't work upside down. The labour in this video isn't worth it, just buy a press or build a frame type that takes a bottle jack without the hassle.
It works just fine if you modify the oil reservoir pick up point as he has here.
That table you working on is not suited for what you doing
good vid, thanks for sharing, if you get a thumbs down it is because my computer and boobtube are acting up...thanks again friend...doug
Thanks Doug for stopping by
It will not work upside down you must have a mechanical jack the fluid will be at the top of the jack and the pump will run dry
I made my press and I'm using it for more than a year with no problem watch the video of my press
