Marion, Marion, Marion. In the words of your illustrious President, "C'mon man!" You had this stuff figured out in the 80s when you strip-tilled. I've seen your talk about your strip-tiller you ran back then before transitioning into full notil. I understand why you went the path you did, back then all the focus was on tillage and getting nh3 on, now strip-tillage is 100% about fertilizer placement and efficiency from banding. Welcome back, glad you've been freed from the "regen" zealots that the NNTC has turned into since kicking the strip-tillers out. Perhaps Lesiter is watching and will bring everyone back together again so actual learning can happen again like it did 10 years ago. Rant over.
As far as this 9bu response, when I first saw it on twitter last fall my mind went immediately to wondering how much of that was from mineralization of SOM vs getting the P and K down deeper. Long term no-til once tilled usually mineralizes a huge amount of nutrients (a lot of plant available carbon) in the first year or 2. I wonder if that's what is going on vs just fixing the stratification. Seeing you continuing with tillage in year 2 should help answer some of these questions. Beans having such a poor root structure makes me question the 9 bu in the long term. Did you do weekly tissue analysis in the treated vs control? Should help give an idea as to where the yield is coming from.

Speaking a lot of truth right here. How can I buy you a beer?!

I get where he's coming from. You do a few things and to yourself it's this great Epiphany moment. Then you start talking to other people The Epiphany moment goes away. Some of what you thought was an epiphany moment kind of gets lost when you're talking about it out loud two other people.

Have you tried a microbial approach? Blending a microbial enriched fertilizer with liquid P & K You could use a top dressed or an in furrow application, using microbes like earthworms to deliver nutrients to the root systems. This would allow you to maintaining your no-till operation.

How do you know whether that yield response came from fertilizer or just the carbon release from doing the tillage that lead to a yield increase.

Nothing new here, it's no secret that if you apply P & K on surface that needs mixing with the soil otherwise it won't work and is waste of money and effort, especially for crops with deep root system. In no till application you put it behind work pice of whatever tool you use to loosen the soil, that's why there is so many farmer made tools around the world, mostly from cultivator and old seeder. Nitrogen you can spread on the surface and it will do it's job, as long as there is water preferably rain after application, but again not too much at once. I said manny times before effective fertilizer usage needs knowledge of what, when, how and how much to apply, otherwise you mostly throw your money in to the mud.
