Definitely a sharp guy. Kind of hits me square in the heart that he’s passing it down to his daughter. My girl will be 14 in 5 days, and she lives and breaths farming every day. So do the next 2.
He’s a data guy, and measurable results are what matter. It doesn’t all apply to everyone, I’m organic, I have to bump populations or I won’t get enough plants. But narrow row is definitely the way to go. I choose 20” because I could build a 40’ corn header that’s not too heavy, and I can stay square with 80’ planters and maintain a 2:1 controlled traffic farming plan, and I can pull DB planters set up for twin 20’s with a heavy tillage tractor. One planter style that can precision plant all crops, even small grains like wheat, and more and more, we’re using it to put in cover crops instead of the drills. Although, we still drill when snow seeding, because the drills are a lot older and more expendable, I’d snap the frames on our planters.
    Great video!
