If you look at a few examples small countries who get themselves together take off relatively quickly, and thin countries even more so because corporations know one major rail line and highway can cover much of the nations major population points and unlike large nations were many highways/rail lines/power/communication corridors have to be given attention and adding to complexity. I wouldn't be surprised if in the short run all the smaller countries in the Ivory Coast do better than Nigeria but in the long run because of its population Nigeria is the end all be all - Alpha and Omega and the region will go as Nigeria goes. That's why i said that all these meter gauge rail lines being built in Nigeria should be stopped and the World Bank needs to make sure SGR is built because all nations need to attach to Nigeria and if they build NGR they will have the economy to easily upgrade in the future but other smaller nations will find it hard to upgrade their networks!!!

Yes. We know that Nigeria has not lived up to your expectations. We are sorry. We are doing our best to fix that. But the only indices you talked about is maritime. For the most part of the last four years nigeria borders have been closed to so many things. Largely so that we can stimulate local production, especially of rice and poultry products. The cost of everything skyrocketed but we bore it like that. We had to start eating local rice, locally grown poultry and all those things. The traffic that used to come to Nigeria do dump that foreign rice that westerners don't want to eat and they dump in Africa is what they divert to Togo. I wish our customs and immigration will become more efficient and keep the smugglers out. Let Togo keep the title. In fact, let Ghana, Somalia and even land locked countries carry whatever title they want as long as Nigeria stimulates the local production of all the things that is making togolese port busy. One day, we will start exporting to other African countries. Let Togo keep its border open because they want title.

Just because the population of Lagos + another state exceeds the population of the target country is no reason to dismiss or ignore them. There are many countries with "small populations" whose standard of living far exceeds anything Nigeria can offer examples being Switzerland, Austria, Singapore, Botswana, Mauritius and Namibia.

This won't last, Nigeria will soon finish the building of the first deep seaport in West Africa. And there are more coming in Badagry, Bonny, Akwa Ibom etc. Giant of Africa means more chances to grow * 100.

As a Nigerian, Togo deserves it. Nigeria has been focusing on the wrong things and electing short sighted bafuns into power.
Togo is not the only one colonised by 3 countries. Cameroon too
Lagos state in Nigeria has more Sea ports than all of Togo.
Rivers state in Nigeria has more sea ports than all of Togo.
Over 50% of goods headed to Togos ports are actually aimed or headed for Nigeria.
And your last point is something we need to change.
We're not talking about that
Nigeria, The most corrupt sea port in Africa..
That's alie there is one Deepwater port Bonny Rivers state though still under construction and another at Lekki in use now.

@Rotimi Kayode - l read comment you posted with keen interest and cannot but give you a BIG applause. First, our Nigerian people are still comparing Nigeria to Ghana, with some of us posted comments insulting our people and our country. I don't care if they throw their angers towards our selfish elitist leadership. Ghanaians are insulting us because we have brought ourselves low and now we are being compared to Togo! Yoruba say "if small suffering knock a person of his feet the big one will climb on top of it!". Can you imagine that! And here we are reading comments posted by some Nigerians who in my opinion are not looking at the wider picture. As far as they are concerned nothing is happening in Nigeria nothing good can come out of Nigeria. Those people are of negative mindsets about Nigeria. How do we expect others to respect us if we don't respect ourselves? I keep saying "we" Nigerians are our own biggest problem.
I thank you once again for your well thought true comment. Whilst some will continue with their negative thinking others like us will move to the opposite direction because we believe and continue to believe in that country.

Good work to Togo..
Togo is really thinking big..
But if you to compare Togo to Nigeria, it can't just be based on seaport infrastructures and port activities..
There several other things to compare..
Togo isn't even developing as fast as Rwanda, yet Rwanda can't yet be compared to Nigeria or even Ghana SA, Morocco and Egypt..
These are power level countries..
When we talk about being a Giant there many other things to be considered..
Have u asked your self why Nigeria is quote on quote "Giant Of Africa" it not just because of its population..
Do your research well..
Don't just compare..
Nigeria having a bad port system doesnt mean DAT Togo can be compared with it..

Skin pain?
They have to fix things fast. All of the west coast..most have ports..including Liberia.. Togo is smaller, like Netherlands that is why..
Lagos have two seaport, Apapa port and Tincan port
Cameroon was colonised by 3 European powers as well... Germany first, then Britain and France. Check your facts.

Not the only. Reread again.
