I had one of these a good decade and a half ago in New Zealand, with a 4A-GZE from the AE111 with the supercharger changed for a TD04 turbocharger, RX7 550cc injectors, Link ECU, shortened Hilux LSD and W58 gearbox. 12.8 second 1/4 mile PB. Doubling the power and lowering the gear ratios more than solves the straight line performance
Dream car right there. I'll come back to this comment and update the day I buy this car. Until then I hope the uploader doesn't delete this video like many UA-camrs do lol
So lucky!! Man I always wanted to see how these cars are to drive. Now that you compared the tech to V-Tec I can imagine how it drives as I have driven Honda Integra Type R , its not most powerful but yes very good to drive.
Yes mate this is the perfect little old beast to cruise around in & especially if you lived in Japan with those narrow streets & winding roads around the mountain tops, great review thanks Johnny.
Great review. The 4age 16 valve engine and ae86 chassis is a legendary combination and is hands down one of the best everyday sportcars. Australia only got the 4ac (carburettor) engine in an ae86 chassis, the rest were imported. The 4age 16v engine also did duty in the fwd ae82 and ae9x corollas, which were also gems in their own right. I also believe the level of variable valve timing (vvt) in 4age engines is less aggressive than Honda vtec. Hondas have bigger cams as well. What should be mentioned is that the 4age 20 valve engine is often swapped in ae86 chassis. With 5 valves per cylinder, it is extremely potent. That has to be one of the finest 1.6L normally aspirated motors of all time. 121kw, 160nm and 8000rpm redline in a 900kg shell with lsd…it can compete with many a turbo and v8 manual cars..relatively speaking. You should do a review of an ae111 levin trueno which has stock 20 valve engine from the factory, although it’s fwd.
A good friend of mine had the coupe version, he imported it from Japan. Did a bit of work on it too. I luckily got to drive it a couple times. They rev hard, like a go-kart on steroids.!
Great video but I have a suggestion for your second channel, have you already made a video on what cars you've owned throughout your lifetime? If not, that will be cool to see...
I never seen the cartoon for this car but in the grand tourism series it was the bomb to drive on the game tracks a cool car and probably modify the power from the engine and it be sweet
Hell yes, I love these kinds of car's for driving flat out because it all comes down to my own skill with no crap trying to take over. This is pure driving to me, give me a twisty road and this car, I'm in heaven. Love the movie as well, it's funny when he took his mate for a drive and he got out a puked lol Reminds me of one of my old bosses son's, he reckoned he could drive fast, so I took him for a drive, poor bugger was white as a ghost and sick when I dropped him home again lmfao 🤣
@@edwardfletcher7790 i saw one being daily driven recently & i had totally forgotten about them, even after having owned a couple of them in the 90's, they were an awesome little car 👍
I really don't understand how this thing could waste a 32 gtr and an fd rx7 but it was damn epic man the only person he never beat though was bunta with that pristine gc8 which is quite funny to me cos it's not that the gc8 was fast its because bunta drives like a maniac
its only on the Touge that it could beat them.. going down hill.. the roads are so tight here that you cant open thous cars up.. this car is so light it just whips around the corners! no doubt this could beat them with the right driver
I remember calling my friend stupid for paying £7k for one years ago. He still has it and I'm still the fool
Lol he’s a genius 🤣
I love the AE86 more than any other car. I would kill to have that car you're driving in this video. You earned a sub.
Glad you enjoyed this review was a blast to drive
Always loved the ae86, could of bought one that was turbocharged back in 2018 ...kicking myself now lol
Man that would have been something

The Inline 4 RWD corolla is a beast, Initial D made this car for what it is today and a japanease icon 💯
Icon for sure 😈👏
0-100 should be around 9 seconds so you were taking it real easy on the old girl
Was a rental and it’s over 30 years old 🤣
Where do you hire this from!! I'm looking to go to Japan at the end of the year
Colin Chapman said, "Add lightness" Every very light car I've ever driven, I fell in love with.
its so true
In Germany the really nice ones AE86 go about 30k euros. Truly a special car.
very special!
This is probably the best review of an ae86 I’ve ever scene eurobeat the trueno version and on an actual touge this guy knows his shit
Thanks 🙏 appreciate it

thanks for all the info! brilliant car that i would compare to hondas.. not "Fast" but they win races lol

really awesome handling eh

great idea! sorry my life has been off the rails and the second channel has taken the brunt :( new videos coming soon
@@RossReviewsau No problem, focus on your life and wellbeing, because that always comes first...
I had a bootleg 1987 vhs of Pluspy
Pluspy 2 featured the white Trueno
very cool!
Cool vid but just want to point out that isn't eurobeat in the beginning of the video lol. Thats drum and bass
The AE86 is one legend of a car
agreeed
I never seen the cartoon for this car but in the grand tourism series it was the bomb to drive on the game tracks a cool car and probably modify the power from the engine and it be sweet
its really impressive for what it is eh
Do yourself a favour, watch Initial D.
It's such a wonderful life lesson show for car fans 👍🏻
Edward I'll definitely will I hope it be on Netflix or one of those apps otherwise UA-cam

yup this car is older than me! and man it felt good to drive her hard.. takes true skill but man its quick! not fast but quick lol
now thats a man of culture
😎🤝
Who remembers the T18's
Probably pretty rare now...bad rust issues
They were great, we had no idea at the time ! 😕
@@edwardfletcher7790 i saw one being daily driven recently & i had totally forgotten about them, even after having owned a couple of them in the 90's, they were an awesome little car 👍
Ya see guys the fact that bro said on a down hill power doesn’t matter shows his knowledge in the fujiwara factor 😊
Yeah it's pretty much a four seater miata of the 80's to me. I don't think it's under power as I've always felt I was able to keep up with traffic.
i can vibe with that eh!
and yeah a Trueno would be very rare in AU because you never got the Trueno only the Levin in Australia
Was that gts or sr5?
Where did you get your tamoko?
Here In Perth.. my Family is Maori
ae86 is the GOAT
It’s a legit legend 🤝✅
Wait,IT have factory LSD diff ???

Nice
I know someone who has a manual coupè AE86 but only in base form with stock boring rims 😂 cool but I’m more of a early 70s Toyota fan
even base mode is cool but this was the one to have
But you cannot compete with my misfiring system!!
Farts & poop
Americas model isn't that different from japans it just gets the north American 4age
If he watched initial d they didn't say eighty six they said eight six
There’s more to the AE86 then Initial D , too bad nothing else was mentioned
? Really..
It's a rental car and that's why she did almos 13 second🤣
It’s not that quick off the line still
Hachi roku means eight six the guy is pronounced wrong get it right dude its eight six not eighty six
That thing is such a pile
