And the KC5EZZ 444.225 repeater has the CAT-1000 controller; the N5SVK 444.350 and W5QX 146.940 repeaters both have Micro Computer Concepts RC-1000 controller.

Amateur radio licensing was first mandated by the Radio Act of 1912, not the Communications Act of 1934. The 1934 legislation abolished the Federal Radio Commission and created the FCC in its place, but it was mostly about centralizing regulation of all communication under one agency. For more information about the origins of amateur radio and licensing, see the December 2012 issue of CQ magazine or Wikipedia.

Just watched your video - thank you for sharing your insights on Ham Radio. I have always been interested in Amateur Radio, and am just now getting ready to take the leap and get my Technician's license. Your video helped seal the deal for me. :-)

Awesome narrative - but to a non ham ...staring at an Icom for 40 minutes whilst monologuing about their probably going to bail after 5 min 0 you should SHOW what your talking about - like 20m.... tune to it - tune to WWV etc - key in an echolink node and show them keying a repeater on the other side of the world...etc...etc...etc. but ya hey good stuff.

I decoded the morse code and voice IDs of the repeater:
19:21 and 19:41 is the KC5EZZ EchoLink repeater
20:06 is the N5SVK repeater where you'll hear the repeater owner checking in on a double at 47:18
    45:57 is the W5QX repeater

need a subscription for ARRl i suppose. trying to get more active in the ham world lately, i've been absent due to odd work schedules. have 20 over s9 on all my HF from the distribution lines in my alley. need to bug someone and get it fixed. just ordered a multiband vertical and some other gear. thanks for the hint. didn't know there was anything as far as legislation prior to 34.

ARRL is a RIP OFF.Stay FAR FAR Away from those thieves. There is a very good reason why less than 20% of licensed Amateur Operators in the USA are ARRL members. That should speak volumes in itself.

A bit long but I appreciate the video. I'm working on getting a radio and my license. I'm thinking about one of the 2 meter only yaesu radios

You should start with the Best which is ICOM & not settle for the Crud of the crop Yaesu. On their best day they pretty much SUCK.ICOM RULES because ICOM is the KING of Amateur Radio & it's great being the KING.

great video.... and what does one talk about on ham radios ...can you say a recipe? or talk sports?...most videos they just say there name call location and what radio they have..rather boring really ...i am getting the radio disease also..lol
just got my second scanner a small little Uniden BC75XLT. so far everyone sounds so offishall when they talk on it and that's sorta backwards as too why i want it. i want too relax and have fun not sound like a robot..so can you talk just normally on it. ??

You can talk about just about anything but the rules differ from country to country. There are groups that talk about many subjects & some meet on different bands & frequencies on different days of the week. It's the greatest Hobby in the world as far as I'm concerned & I use it pretty much every day of my life.

2:00 in, and I'm out! Dude, you have to show more about what you're babbling about if you want to hold the attention of someone wanting to get into HAM Radio!
