Brings back great memories of Monache, Troy, and Kennedy meadows trips. What a wonderful time! We were doing what you are doing back in the 2005 era. I need to post some of those videos up. Back then best I had was a DV recorder, not the best quality but it works! Thanks, we are reliving those awesome moments thru your videos!
The Vanman My dad started taking me up there and the entire Eastern Sierras in the early 60’s via 1943 MB. My family made many trips through to that area from the early 70’s to the lates 80’s. Unfortunately my last trip to that area was in the early 90’s and haven’t been up 395 since 2006. Keep going as long as you can.
Did some binge watching….enjoyed watching your shows. I subscribed.I can’t wait to hit the Alabama hills, Monache meadows and lone pine ….I’m due west of the 395 almost my backyard….can’t wait
Enjoy watching most of your videos. Thanks for showing someone how NOT to use an axe @ 15:50. Working with an axe is extremely dangerous! Lots of videos on how to properly split small logs. Please don't take this the wrong way, I just don't want anyone to hurt themselves. Otherwise great videos as always.
I love Monache...was there just a week ago...spent the first night at the Corral Creek Lodge above Kernville then took the road over Sherman Pass to Black Rock and Monache. We only saw 7 other campers in the Meadow...most along the South Fork of the Kern on the North side. Monache has been a fav for over 30 years.
We camped there last year. Remember setting up camp chairs in the middle of the stream while drinking cold beers with my son. Good times. Someone’s gotta do it
Isn't it great? Its like the best kept secret around here if you like to fly-fish, camp and wheel all in the same weekend! Pretty soon Don we will have these travel restrictions lifted and we can both try to get up there again this year. Happy Trails!!!
Looks amazing. Thanks for sharing. Directions would be greatly appreciated. We’ll be going up the end of this month North bound 395 from San Diego. Thanks again!
I like Monache I used to hunt up there before they closed so much off road trails. I did not see many fish last time but was not looking for them. I saw a couple though. A couple brown trout one looked kinda gold. I stocked those myself. Better than packing it out.
I went up there years ago and it's beautiful. Too bad the Forest Service lied when they closed a bunch of the roads. At the barrier you could clearly see where the 4X4 road continued. That area had been designated as a "Wilderness Study Area". Legally for it to be classified as such it couldn't contain any existing routes/roads of travel. To close it the Forest Service just claimed it wasn't a "road", it was a "way", so they could close it.
Appreciate the coordinate points. First time going up this coming week and setting up the routes. Running a Tacoma TRD Pro and Jeep Sahara. Assuming I should be fine if I see Subarus up there on IG.
Great vid! Looking to try to do that in mid-late June? How’s the weather there typically? And do you have directions on how you got to your spots? Thanks !
Hi Sean - The weather should be great. Likely cold in the evenings, but the days will be t-shirt and shorts...If you call the Blackrock Ranger Station and get their location, Monache Meadow trailhead is right up the road from the ranger station. You will love it. Take care!!!
Hi Joshua - We kept our food in a bear safe container in the Jeep, but I don't believe that is a requirement. There are no provided bear safe lockers which you occasionally see in campgrounds. You should be GTG!!!
Thank you JK Panda. It was a slow and methodical build in an effort to not have to do things twice. I failed. LOL. I did have to do some things twice. LOL. Stay Healthy and Happy Trails!!!!
Hi Andy - Its the mini ipad mount made by Ram Mounts...$20...mounts.factoryoutletstore.com/details/663871/ram-mount-ez-roll-cradle-with-ball.html?category_id=78648&catalogitemid=597226
Hi Paul - 4 hours give or take. 2 hours to the the sit off 395....an hour to the trailhead...and about an hour to Monache Meadows. If you go, please send me a DM on IG and let me know how it was. Take care and Happy Trails
Great video showing monache meadows. I was wondering whether you’ve been there in November? I’m going up next weekend and wonder how much snow I can expect and what might be the trail conditions in very early winter. Also, I saw in your video some wire fencing. Is some of the land adjacent to private property? I read there was cattle up there so I assume there might be fencing for that purpose. Are the campsites fairly visible from the trail? I’d like to camp close to the river but with some shade from the trees If possible. Thanks for responding!
Latest I've been to Monache is October. It should be OK considering the snowfall up until now has been fairly light. But I would suggest you call Blackrock Ranger Station for the current conditions and trail status. And yes, we've seen cattle up there a number of times. There are several campsites as you enter the Meadow area...and they are even posted with some overflow. Have fun and be safe!
@@395jnky thanks for the tip! I left them a message just in case. Winter Weather has been pretty mild up to this point. I have a winch just in case there are some troubling spots. Thanks for your quick reply and keep up the great work!
Hi Sean - I'm not too sure about that. Last year, maybe, if the ground was dry and hard packed. Not knowing what the conditions are this year, I'd hate to see you get all the way there in case it has deteriorated over the last year. I'll be headed up here in the next 30 days, so hit me up on IG and I'll let you know what it was like. Take care!
Wow. This place looks amazing! I’m planning on 3-4 nights around the eastern Sierras in a few weeks. Definitely going to consider this spot! Serious question. Ever have issues with bears? Especially with having a refrigerator.
Last couple years the trail has been in pretty good shape. But after each years snowfall the trails can be different. But I suspect with the light winter we’ve had, a 2wd has a good chance of making it, provided you have decent ground clearance. Happy Trails
Hi Cel - Thanks for watching the videos. I appreciate the kind words. There is no cell phone reception in Monache...If you need to stay connected I recommend you look into SpotX or a Garmin In-Reach. I’ve tried both and personally prefer the Garmin. Happy Trails
Should be OK...With one exception. I think you will have a tough time on the road to our campsite coordinates for nights 2 and 3. Its a pretty tight squeeze between a steep hill and the Forestry Service fence line...Other than that there are plenty of other places to camp and lots to see. Happy Trails!!!!
Thanks for the comment and I’m glad you enjoyed. Tough for me answer about the Q7. Last year there was a tougher spot that the Q7 might find challenging. And if the trail deteriorate led since last year I would say no. I’ll be headed back up soon enough so stay tuned for more info. Take care!
ONE Memories Overland Never Ends- Memories I heard the trail is closed until further notice. If you call the black rock visitor center just outside of Monache
Years ago an idiot stated shooting at my husband and our three children while right in in middle of Monache Meadows..The dirt was puffing up THEN we heard the shot ..It was high powered and whoever it was.. didn’t care who he hit…We never ever went back.
Great video. We will be going up next weekend trying to get a grasp of the area. Your video helped very much. Thank you: 🤙🏼
Great night shots driving into camp! Nice river views and excellent drone work! Thanks for an awesome video!
Thank so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Happy Trails and Stay Healthy!!!

One of the best camping videos I have seen. I recently bought a Jeep Wrangler and hope to find some nice spots in the Sierra.
Thanks George. Have fun out there and go find your adventure!!!
Great video!
Love love to camp here! I miss it already cant wait to go back this summer
Evol M3 us too! I hope we get all of this behind us real soon! Stay healthy!!!
Awesome video. Just found your channel. I love Monache and you guys did it right. Keep it up!!

Thanks for visiting and I'm glad you enjoyed!
Great video, love cooking on the skottle!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Tim. And yes, the skottle is a great way to cook multiple items without letting anything get cold. More videos on the way! Happy Trails!

Btw, I love camping and fishing by the river also. It’s my favorite!!!
Really well done video used to camp in beach meadows
Glad you enjoyed it. Headed up there next month again. Definitely God's country!!! Take care!
Phenomenal. Will be looking into touring that are in 2021
You'll love it. Happy Trails

Killer looking area. On my list 4sure!
Def on my list! Did you have to keep your food/smelly stuff bear safe?
Hi Joshua - We kept our food in a bear safe container in the Jeep, but I don't believe that is a requirement. There are no provided bear safe lockers which you occasionally see in campgrounds. You should be GTG!!!
Ooooo. I like this spot.
She killed it with the axe!!
Right!?!?!?!!!!!
Did you guys see any deer or wild life while up there? i feel like the coyotes have got them all
Awesome video! How wide is your jeep overall from outside tire edge to outside tire edge?
Thanks Cole. The width from the outside edge of tire to the outside edge of tire is right around 83". Happy Trails!
Would a stock height 4x4 F150 get back there? Be able to make that Monache trail?
Thanks
Yes it will
So from the 395 did you turn onto 9 mile canyon road and then on to Sherman pass?
Sure did!
Dude your Jk looks bad ass 👊🏻

What fishing rod holders are on your car?

Looking to go next season. Would like to go early but how is the water crossing? Got a new-to-me TJ with lockers, 4” lift, and 37” MTs
We've been early in the season and nothing a TJ with lockers, 4” lift, and 37” MTs. Have fun...Happy Trails
Do you guys think a 2WD Tacoma could make it to your locations?

Yes you will make it just fine in 2WD Tacoma. Been going up there for years and have see stock 2wd Toyota Highlanders.

Been going here for about 7 years only incident I had was tracks on the trail
I have a stock subaru 2020 crosstrek, do you think it will be fine on that trail?
Most likely. I've seen them before up there...But each season brings new challenges...So not 100% until I can go check it out....
I’m looking into buying a gladiator soon. What part of SoCal are you in? I’m about 1hr north of LA
Hi Steven - We live in the Inland Empire..>Rancho Cucamonga to be specific.
395jnky oh ok for sure. I live in Palmdale/Antelope Valley 😒 I’m hoping to be getting a gladiator soon, but I’m new to overlanding.
Any idea if Monache Meadows is open right now?
It should be...But to play it safe you can always call the Blackrock Ranger Station and they will let you know for sure. Happy Trails

can you still make it there on a 2wd truck?

You should try it sometime on a bumpy or rocky trail. Makes the ride 1,000% more comfortable, and a lot easier on your rig.
