I have one of these vacuums and just went through it and got it tuned up. Pretty easy job and your video was helpful! I was going to buy a new vacuum but I looked at what's out there and it was mostly Chinese junk. The Wndtunnel works great once again. Thank You
Nice repair video on one of these self propelled windtunnels. I own one and I would honestly say it is one of the last good Hoover’s in my opinion. Consumer Reports ranked it number one for a while until they found out that so many of these went in for a repair. I will say that actuator arm that controls the transmission is quite weak. If it has any cracks, it can break on you out of nowhere. I can definitely tell that they cheapened the way the transmission works compared to the concepts. Besides that, the performance is really good, and you barely have to push the machine.
I love this video! I have three self propelled WindTunnel’s in my collection! Two are bagged and one is bagless. They both work great! I like the self propelled’s, but I like the non Self propelled’s better because Those one’s are easier to service compared to the self propelled ones. But one thing about the self propelled WindTunnel is that machine was my childhood vacuum that I grew up with and I still have it today. It is a 2000 Hoover WindTunnel self-propelled ultra! 😃
I hope this video will help me replace the Self-Propelled belt on my Windtunnel. The Self-Propelled Windtunnels non-Brushroll belts are a Pain in the ass to change!
This was fun to watch, because after 18 years, I just replaced ours with a new Miele Marin. It's wonderful to no longer have to wear ear protection, and vacuuming carpeted stairs with this boat anchor, was never much fun either.
Can the motor burn out on these. I bought one that looked great at good will, but the beater bar didn’t work. I changed both belts and the bar, the machine just burned the this belt at the pin. Is this fixable?
Great video. Can I hire you to work on my anniversary edition? Whenever I put a new bag in the unit struggles ot pull over the carpet. The carpet is high end with high end pad. The front end digs and the unit will not move. Also it squals when it is going forward. Any suggestion? Thanks
Would you possibly have a spare plastic switch that changes the height of a Hoover Wind Tunnel U64019RM? Our Hoover works great except the switch broke. It's too old for most parts departments to carry. Please let me know. Thanks
I smelled something burning on the Anniversary Windtunnel Hoover. The belt had a burn area about the size of a nickel and the cover plate up at the upper end of the large belt was also melted. I missed that part at first. I replaced the belts but the roller would not turn. I noticed a washer and a nut fell out of the machine that went at the end of the large belt pulley.. We put it back on but the brush still won’t turn. Is that the part you replaced that would cause the brush to turn or is it the large belt pulley or the self propel motor?
ugh... I have this model and my self propellled feature works sporadically then it stops working the motor melts the belt and the thing starts smokin and melting the big belt..not good.. When you clean a vacuum cleaner you become a vacuum cleaner.
So I have one of these and it really needs service. Do I ditch it instead of paying for service and repair or keep it? If I were to get rid of it (because of all the things you pointed out - heavy, not sealed, etc) what model do you recommend? I would really like a lighter model for carrying up and down stairs but I want one that will actually pick up dirt from carpet. BTW - I hate a dyson I tried without a bag. It is irritating to me to have to dump a canister and have all the flying dust and have to do this outside during the winter months. And how to you tune up the self-propelled part? do you have a video on that?

I totally agree with you! If the engineering isn't sound then you have a pile of junk.... Not the way America used to work back in the day.... It's all about profit and turnover excluding quality. Then to make it worse imports from overseas don't take pride in craftsmanship thus making it a throw away society. Not environment friendly. Sad.
Im getting a Premium Self Propelled and some rare maroon one tomorrow, so if the Self Propelled is off, and you pick it up by the handle, will the system break? Here's the two here: omaha.craigslist.org/app/d/2-hoover-windtunnel-self/6526103514.html

one of my favorite models because I love repairing these Hoovers
What a neat looking Hoover wind tunnel

Excellent. Was able to diagnose, disassemble, and repair my hoover model u6419rm . Thank you!!!
Thorough instructions and detailed explanations. Good lighting. Very helpful. Thanks.
I have repaired a few of these. They work well, but have their weaknesses.
Great video. What if the brush spins for a second or 3 then stops when hits the carpet?
Good machines for their lifespan I guess. I agree with you not bad but not great. Much better than the junk Walmart machines though

Quite possibly the BEST Groundhog's Day vacuum repair video of 2018. Too bad it turned out to be a Groundhoggist Extremist recruitment video.

Was that idler pulley the reason that the machine was not self-propelling? I placed new belts on my Hoover but it still doesn't self-propel.
How do you adjust power cable my self propelled wheels spin without being engaged. Windtunnel 2 Do you have video on it?
Is there any way I can fix the “Hoover Lean” on these machines
I have a older model, but it is about the same, I have a question mine will not stand up straight, do you know what the problem could be?
I noticed you were pretty critical of this model of Hoover. Who makes a better one?
I had the newer blue 'anniversary' edition . It was very heavy and smelled really bad in use due to no filtration. I rather use my Sebo X4 any day ;-)
In a process of changing the wiring and the motor out of my WindTunnel u6476 900
Turned on and just died. Any ideas?

Go to your local Vacuum shop they should have it .
Worth one fix but they better look for a slot to throw their spare change in it so they can start saving for a Kirby.
Thank you so much. Your video is awesome!
My brush roller will not rotate and both belts are new. I checked the pulley wheel and it is cracked. Would this cause my problem?

Question does the idaler arm control the bare floor setting or just when the machine is upright and you're using the hose
My brushes won't quit spinning in upright position. How do I adjust. Thanks
My peddle wont release handle so I can use vaccum? I'm devastated

Take a look at my playlist "budget vacuums" that might help you price out what a new vacuum would cost.
anyone noticed that the flat belt is running off center on the pulley/wheel ?
Thanks for the video!
This vacuum seems to be made very cheaply. Good job. PS. Where is your shop located?

love the concept 1
Mine had the same problem
