    Hey Paul, you did good for no editing!😄 She's got lots of sustain, that for sure. Not a fan of the matte finish either but that's not too difficult of a fix. I was actually expecting that you'd mod the case too, looking for those period correct latches!😂😂 Good score, thanks for sharing.👍👍

    Lovelovelove your Vox collection!! My cousin brought his Royal Guardsman over to my house back in 1970 to let a new guitar playing kid work with a real amp, I was in awe and will never forget that!

    Excellent review Paul! Was very curious to see a review of the SJ-200 after seeing you it on Insta. As it is already nails the sound of George’s for the most part. Can’t wait to see the mods!

    I own one. It’s a lovely and great sounding guitar.
    Great review by the way.

    I know one dealer who had a run made of custom J200s from Gibson with the tune-o-matic bridges.
    But you're right, that bridge makes a huge difference if you want that Harrison or Townshend or Led Zeppelin sound.

    • @ConglomerationCat
      @ConglomerationCat Місяць тому

      My thoughts exactly... Another album that beautifully displays that trademark sound is Thunderclap Newman's "Hollywood Dream" album. Jimmy McColloch plays Pete Townshend's SJ-200 with the tune-o-matic bridge and it makes such a distinctive difference.

    Great review. I was pretty close to buying one, but I heard the neck is really chunky, and I’ve got small hands. I ponied up for a Gibson with a nice slim neck

    Thank you Paul - I like your Honest review and your evaluation of how much it is really worth. I bought the inspired by Gibson J-45 and pd the $749 - Indonesia 🇮🇩 made . And the Hummingbird inspired by Gibson from Sweet Water and really like it / and Epiphone Case . Glad that you talked to us about not spending $1500 for a. Chinese Copy of a J-200 .

    I agree. Epiphone are asking WAY too much for this guitar.
    I think an $899.00 price would be suitable. Just a bump above the normal “IBG” line.

    I understand personal preferences, but a guitar made in 57, shouldn't look bright and shiny. The wood on this is thermal aged and they tried to make it as if it was a 57 Sj200. Get a standard epiphone J200 it will be cheaper but also have that bright shiny new look. Great video, loved it just wanted to point out what they were going after with this particular guitar.

    I really like your view point ( I’m the fellow that had the drinking girlfriend that gave away a Gibson J-160 to a new boyfriend and dumped him ) Cases should have good hardware .

    The price is a little higher than the Epiphone Masterbilt Editions (Indonesia).
    But sound is much better than the J-200 Masterbilt model. (althought I bought Masterbilt Excellente which is a MONSTER).
    1300 $ price would be the excellent pricing for this J-200.
    As for the original Gibson one..... the overall sound quality is slightly better..... but for the money thay ask....WAY NO!!!!
    This IGC Epiphone J-200 is a good purchase overall!!!

    I saved up and bought a gibson sj-200. I was on a wait list for 2 years and sadly it’s not my favorite guitar. It plays good enough and sounds fine but for 5k I want my butt to pucker when I play it lol. I have to say that J-45s are my favorite gibson acoustic. If I could trade the j-200 an EJ-160 I would

      I have a gibson j200 standard and also a sigma j200 (an 8 year old one with rosewood fretboard,
      they use micarta for the board and the bridge,imho i think the new ones don't sound as good),
      my gibson is my prized possesion❤, but the sigma is so close to it!! pound for pound they
      cannot compare! this would have been very interesting to me if it didn't have that ugly satin finish.

    I had an all-black SJ200 from around 2014, bought it the next year. One of the worst acoustics I ever had the misfortune of owning and playing. The tone sounded practically dead and I never felt inspired anytime I played it. Needless to say, that guitar is unceremoniously long gone. It sounds like Epiphone did what they could to give players affordability and quality for what this is. Hopefully, your video will persuade people's opinions on whether or not they want to pick one up. I'm certainly intrigued.

      I remember reading somewhere that Gibson acoustics went through a Dark Age circa 2005-2015. Just bad timing, I guess. I also heard of inconsistent sound quality, so make sure you try it before you buy it (from the owner or the store, NOT the internet). I bought a 2000 from my luthier's recommendation, and it sounds great..

    I know you probably haven't played it but I wonder what you would think of the Sigma version of this, the GJA-SG200. It's also solid sitka spruce and just a bit cheaper. I had seriously been considering that one for a while. I didn't know epiphone just made this.

    I spend money on equipment that makes money. It's not the price - it's "How much can THIS guitar make ME?" A creatively-inspiring acoustic might, but I've got those already, and those have made far more money. And will in the future. This is only a show-piece - a stage-piece, something that could be stolen.

    • @Cbcw76
      @Cbcw76 5 місяців тому

      I wish more demo's would choose Neil Young's TELL ME WHY from his AFTER THE GOLD RUSH album because it features some great growls on the bass E string. I don't really consider Jumbo's or Dreadnough's to be singularly defined by treble-chords - these are BIG bodies that should offer great bass tones. A sliding, walking bass line for example...

      Because that one is miles different to this one, this one being made with Gibson custom shop and an almost exact 1:1 replica of the 1957 Gibson SJ-200. Sitka Spruce top and Flame maple back and sides, real mother of pearl inlays, Grover tuners and Indian rosewood fingerboard. The only difference is this is made with a polyurethane finish which is a difference from the nitrocellulose lacquer from the Gibson counterpart
