Hi Mike, Thank you for this video and for all the incredible content you’ve created in the channel!!! It’s clear how much work you put into them! However, I’m feeling a bit conflicted about this particular video. While it’s great to explore new places, there’s a fine line when it comes to private property, even if it’s abandoned. In this case, while it wasn’t a Chinese military base, entering what turned out to be an abandoned school without permission still poses serious risks, both legally and physically, as you might be harmed if the building collapses. If this had been a more sensitive location, it could have resulted in much harsher consequences. The authorities were understanding and even went so far as to give you a ride, but situations like these can easily be interpreted as disrespectful toward local laws and Chinese customs. China welcomes all visitors warmly, but it’s important to respect the country's laws and the hospitality of its people. By entering private property, even if it appears abandoned or accessible through the small gap, it can give the wrong impression to other people. Knowing there could be consequences, it’s worth considering why this risk was taken in the first place. Thank you for reading this, stay safe!!!
A Chinese netizen was filming in a park in Sweden and accidentally entered an area behind a chain. As a result, he was arrested by heavily armed soldiers. No matter which country you are in, anyone who enters a restricted area will be caught. If you have the chance, ask the videographer to visit restricted areas in the United States.
Any place in any country with military presence would tell a foreigner to stay out and avoid that area. Moreover, you are holding a recording device and walking nonchantly in that area seems like a perfect reason for trespassing and unauthorised access, not just in China but in any country...sometimes a little common sense prevails to avoid unnecessary interrogation or questioning by the Police. And especially both parties can't communicate well. Its fair for them to ask you to delete the footage as in any other country would have done so within a military zone. Select your content wisely to stay out of trouble.Ignorance may not always be an excuse.
In America the foreign person will surely be detained and charged for espionage , a national security threat lol. Remember the strayed weather balloon?
Damn there are so many Chinese bots here. Asking permission to walk around an abandoned town? Gtfo. They should have some universal signage if they don't want people there
Keep spare SSD cards on hand. I’ve seen this play out in STORROR videos (they do parkour, so brake the law a lot), especially in the one they filmed in India. When your gut tells you something’s about to go down-like when you step out of the barracks-swap the SSD with your footage for a blank one, or one with random photos and videos prepared in advance. This is exactly how they saved their footage and managed to put together the content for the Film: Roof Culture Asia! (Mates, give this comment a like so he sees it-this is practical advice!) P.S. If he’d done this, he could’ve altered the military guy's voice and included it in the video anyway. That wouldn’t be illegal!
This is a closed or restricted military area. The Chinese police and army are very polite to explorers. If they were in the US, they would probably be locked up or shot.😆
This video has nothing to do with the US. Also Saying that China doesn’t arrest people that trespass on military installations is not the flex you think it is. That just shows a weak military.
In the US, they just prosecuted a group of Chinese students who went to a lake to take photos of the meteor shower. Apparently some national guard was doing exercises nearby. The US put out orders for their arrest, despite them being at a public lake. Goes to show the racism and xenophobia currently in USA.

Hey chinese bot, imagine getting in trouble for walking around an abandoned town. If they don't want people there they should invest in some checkpoints / universal signage. Silly commies
Might be entertaining for some people, but I hope you can understand that this is actually quite problematic. Any abandoned buildings are structurally unsafe, the longer they are abandoned the worse the condition. Can you imagine how the western media will spin this story against China if somehow you get hurt in these buildings, especially when you assume this was a “military base”, with footage of a soldier on site? I can appreciate your adventurous spirit, hitch hiking to remote places in China and all, but keep pushing the boundaries of what’s allowed isn’t that innocent, it really creates a lot of trouble for others. If you’re doing honest investigated journalism, document on facts and discovering uncovered issues, as a Chinese, I can also appreciate. However, if you keep putting yourself in positions where you’re inconveniencing others, I don’t think that’s very nice. Don’t you forget, cops and soldiers are also humans trying to do their job protecting others, including you. So far you know they’ve treated you with nothing but kindness, hope you don’t keep troubling them to sensationalize your videos. I enjoyed your journey and your personality very much, but this one really gives me some uneasy feelings. Can you imagine if more people did what you did? It’s not as bad as those youtubers disrespecting everything in Japan, but the annoyance to the officials can comes close. Your videos could help normalize those behaviors.
Hey! I really appreciate your opinion on this matter. I understand that showing these kinds of experiences could open the floodgates for more to do the same. Pushing the boundaries is not what I ever intended to do. Most of the town is open to the public. There also a museum in the inhabited area that shows more of the story. I don’t ever try to trouble the police. They just keep coming to me. And they have been super nice so far. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.
@@mikeokay Thanks for your reply. I get that you’re not actively trying to trouble the police, being a foreigner in remote areas for sure will attract their attention. As many have explained in the comments, they want to make sure you’re safe, also, Chinese police is just VERY proactive on anything they see as unusual. A police would go check on you when you camp in the middle of no where near a gas station even if you’re Chinese. (don’t think it’s typically allowed if it’s in a city) I hope you can understand why they keep going up to you. Your journey is very unusual to a Chinese. 1. You being a foreigner at places foreigners or a common Chinese tourist usually don’t go to, 2. You doing things that are very odd to a Chinese person (hitch hiking, camping anywhere, etc..), in those cases, police doing their job, I don’t think you’re troubling them. You’re just going on your journey the way you like to. 3. In today’s case, you being at a dangerous location. This act alone will cause others worry for you, though you perhaps don’t want to trouble the police, they have to come and make sure you leave the premise. And Being the kind hosts that Chinese people usually are, they go out of the way to drop you off. For me that’s giving them more work and trouble. Also, if at the end of the video you’ve shown your viewers what you just said about the town, it’ll make the video a lot less seemingly sensational. But it’s your channel, your call. Just as a Chinese viewer I personally find that uncomfortable. I hope you keep enjoying your journey and meet many more nice people in China, and hope you stay safe.
@@mikeokaybut you are in a foreign country, if you die in the wilderness of China even by accident, your government will say Chinese government has killed you thinking you are a spy, you are trying to make China look bad even if the citizens of the country have tried to treat you well despite language barriers, it's British by the way
I agree with you. This UA-camr is trying to push the boundaries. He just denied. If he got hurt or got into trouble, the whole western media will blame China. They will say China has no human right or something negative about China. No matter what, he assumed it is a military area and he still went into the building. He is very suspicious. Chinese police is very happy to help you with food or accommodation, but no asking police officers to arrest you because you went into sensitive area. Never try to challenge the police. He should stay as far as away from this kind of area.
Great video Mike and really intriguing ! I could even feel my heart pounding when you were in that abandoned school and some other apparently abandoned and trashed structures. Those were really exciting scenes like it was some kind of video game you've put yourself in. But I noticed in several fleeting shots of the footage a blurry figure in distance around that military vehicle seems to be in a combat uniform (a camouflage) rather than a daily military uniform? And in multiple scenes of you were talking and explaining but the background there were apparently military helicopters - judging from how they flied - doing flyovers from where you were? Just like what other people have commented before me and you have obviously noticed -- this might be an abandoned town which was a civilian installation, but at the time you were there it was obviously requisitioned or recommissioned by the military and according to yourself they might be doing some training or exercising activities, I believe that was the point you should have backed yourself off. Because if you observed military personnel in combat uniforms going around with weird vehicles (not a normal truck and looked like one designed for specific military purposes) parked on the roadside, and busy flyovers of military choppers alone should have alerted you that you wanna get off of there, and you should have been aware that you were inside of certain perimeters with active activities which you should be outside of, it was really dangerous. I indeed admire your adventurousness which I probably don't have that much of, but that needs to be a line you draw that you will not endanger yourself. It was really really lucky that the spot you were at or the activities the military was conducting in that area was not too "hot" or classified, that in the end two civilian policemen escorted you out and whether or not it was true that you said you must have been followed by the military men. I fully understand the curiosity especially with an adventurous dude like yourself, but you really should known the outcome was pure luck. Imagine if that zone was hotter, or the military activities were classified, or you were more inside their perimeters - in which cases you wouldn't be facing the police, but rather, detained by military personnel or even simply got shot. The word "national security" applies in any country - the police may only be able to detain you for longest 48 hours before they will have to release you if not pressing any charges - but for military tresspassing they might be able to detain you indefinitely as long as they could drop the words "national security" or "espionage" on you. Man, you don't wanna be seeing the inside of a 4" by 6" cell instead of being able to continue filming your adventures. So be safe. Love from Norfolk, Virginia and a staff corps officer of the USN.

if you do stumble upon a military base, it is aboslutely smart not to trepass, not to video or take pictures at all. Luckily you got into an abandoned old school . And although it seems no problem at all, still there is a slight chance , you may encounter some sort of danger, collapsing roof sort of . So do not recommend to do that . the policeman had done a good job to take you out of the place.
Don't be nervous if you're interested in the military. If you go to the northeast of China, the navy that you can visit in Dalian city, and the university that developed the ICBM is open in Harbin city. These places are all legally visited.

...I mean, if you are in an area used by military for training, you are unsafe. You will be kicked out... anywhere in the world. I know. I am ex military. Non China. And yes, the footage will likely be erased. Just general security. Lucky the area isn't use for live firing. It's very dangerous. Your timing was not the best. 😂
I just read a news - 5 Chinese students took photos outside of a military facility in the US, they were accused of spying, arrested and most likely will be charged and deported. Chinese police and government are too nice. Chinese are friendly and warm to the foreigners regardless of where they come from and what they look like. I was wondering if the Chinese know their fellow people are being treated poorly in the western countries.
There is one time when we travel in yunnan province, and we are trying to camp on top of mountain. Our local guide took us to a short cut to mountain top, which obviously we are not supposed to take. Along this trail path when we drive up to mountain, we saw PLA training site with endless tents and hundreds of armoured vehicle and tanks. There is a reason sometime some path is forbidden for trespass
The police would be thinking that a British homeless person has lost its way here, so they kindly take him to a place where he can find food and shelter. There are no homeless people in China because the government will help them find shelter or help them return back to their home town for their relatives.
mike, welcome to china and good luck to your exploration. if you meet me in china, I will happily be a full time trip guide for you. However, Chinese government made so many things sensitive to explore and talk. and the reason why they even concern about revealing something they think is sensitve is that they don't want china to be smeared or criticized by media. And I hope my country and government will be more open and less paranoid in the future. good luck, bro.

This place was obviously an oil city decades ago. When the oil dried up and the workers left the abandoned building, the large round tank was used to store the oil. Be sure to pay attention to wild dogs in this kind of place, because they may They bite you if you invade their territory. In addition, when entering an abandoned building, it is best to make sure that the building will not collapse. If this kind of place collapses, no one will save you.

Not just US, in the UK too, the Chinese would be roughly dealt with for going into the wrong street or areas that's not even military. The result won't be pretty just because the person is a Chinese.
It’d be on the news that a Chinese suspect was arrested for spying around a military facility…..
@@myfreespirit58 thats not true. & he didnt exactly go to a military base. Just an abandoned town that happened to have some military personnel present
@@IllyrianPrince14I didn't see the army personnel there, I don't know why Mike is trying to create a problem in his head, and called China crazy country, why can't he go home and leave China alone
Hi Mike,
Thank you for this video and for all the incredible content you’ve created in the channel!!!

I think he understands that very well but he doesn't want to post boring content abou city centers and tourist attractions
In America the foreign person will surely be detained and charged for espionage , a national security threat lol. Remember the strayed weather balloon?
Damn there are so many Chinese bots here. Asking permission to walk around an abandoned town? Gtfo. They should have some universal signage if they don't want people there
Usual wumao account trying to look scary but you just seem a scared kid owned in the back by CCP
In America you can film anything you want in public 😅😅
Keep spare SSD cards on hand. I’ve seen this play out in STORROR videos (they do parkour, so brake the law a lot), especially in the one they filmed in India. When your gut tells you something’s about to go down-like when you step out of the barracks-swap the SSD with your footage for a blank one, or one with random photos and videos prepared in advance. This is exactly how they saved their footage and managed to put together the content for the Film: Roof Culture Asia!
(Mates, give this comment a like so he sees it-this is practical advice!)
P.S. If he’d done this, he could’ve altered the military guy's voice and included it in the video anyway. That wouldn’t be illegal!
This is a closed or restricted military area. The Chinese police and army are very polite to explorers. If they were in the US, they would probably be locked up or shot.😆
He is testing the boundaries. It is not funny. He knows he probably can do that again.
我赞成枪杀,我喜欢美国警察
至少不会这么轻易就放了他,这是肯定的!一个西方人在中国的军事设施里拿着相机拍摄,没被抓起来真的已经不可思议了
This video has nothing to do with the US. Also Saying that China doesn’t arrest people that trespass on military installations is not the flex you think it is. That just shows a weak military.
In the US, they just prosecuted a group of Chinese students who went to a lake to take photos of the meteor shower. Apparently some national guard was doing exercises nearby. The US put out orders for their arrest, despite them being at a public lake. Goes to show the racism and xenophobia currently in USA.

Can you upload some videos secretly filmed in police cars in European and American countries?
If a Chinese went to take a video next to a Royal Navy military base, it would most likely be considered espionage, especially on the borders of countries like Xinjiang and Tibet, so Mike is happy that you can travel to China, but also Pay attention to whether your actions may have more serious consequences.

Your journey is awesome. Keep on doing it please, and be safe❤

@@pastortroy4life Good advice. If only every nation's media could listen.
if you do stumble upon a military base, it is aboslutely smart not to trepass, not to video or take pictures at all. Luckily you got into an abandoned old school . And although it seems no problem at all, still there is a slight chance , you may encounter some sort of danger, collapsing roof sort of . So do not recommend to do that . the policeman had done a good job to take you out of the place.
I like your videos that objectively portray China, which is almost impossible to see in Western media.
