- This is a video diary I made of my trip across the Haute Route Pyrenees (HRP) in 2016. I took about 40 days to travel from Hendaye to Banyuls-Sur-Mer, including rest days and additional summit days.
I will be adding more information about my route, planning and experiences on UA-cam and on my blog over the coming weeks.
doing this route on the 15 July. thanks for the video.
12.00 yes Mont Roig is worth doing. I nearly didn't - but it's quite easy. Also enjoyed the forested valley below.
I remember some of those hut refuges esp. on the spanish side can be pretty harsh! One had no doors and the floor was covered in sheepshit. The next one up had a door but it was off the hinges.
10.00 lol yes I remember how tiring it was there.
Thanks for sharing your trip. Am planning hiking Stages 2-4 of the HRP this summer. However, I am a bit worried, as I am in my early 60's and you are in your early 30's how I am going to cope! I've been comparing your itinerary to yours - and it pretty much matches it. If you were struggling with stage 4 and the long days, I wonder if I'll be able to cope. Would like to know if it is possible to hike without a stove and carry just dry food for the 7-8 days? Is it easy to get food along the way? What time did you have to get tot he Refuges to have a meal?
Also - what dates did you do your trip? I wasn't planning on bring any crampons, and was starting the hike in last week of July.
Hey, thanks for watching the video, glad you enjoyed it :)
I wouldn't worry about the itinerary, just do plenty of walking/training before you go, and then take the route at a pace that's comfortable/enjoyable for you. Refuges will alway sell you something, even if it's just bread/cheese! Buying the Cicerone guidebook for the HRP might help your planning a lot. It's really useful! I liked having the GR11 one as well since you can mix and match both routes for more variation/easier terrain. Have a great time! The HRP is still the best hike I've ever done, and I've done quite a bit now :)
28.30 ah yes - Pla de Boet nice place for camp with decent food at refuge ;-)
Thanks for the video. This definitely brought up memories of my HRP hiking in 2013. Kind of want to do it again but maybe GR11 this time. Just wanted to ask when did you start?
Thanks for watching, and congratulations on your own HRP trip. There's so much more to explore in the Pyrenees, and I also often think about going back again. The GR11 would be equally spectacular but easier for resupply. I started my walk in early July.
I started in early September and after 35 days arrived to Banyuls. The weather was fine. Probably only 2 rainy days but couple of cold nights below freezing. I even though about walk someday from Banyuls on GR10 to Hendaye and back on GR11. Would be around 70 days. But damn after watching your video I start to remember how hard it was sometimes
Yep Friend you Do Look like shit but kind@ correct for a 29 dayer you getting View Blindness imagine that view on day 1 be like WOW but now its like walking down a council estate / lock n load /
