Walking The Pyrenees High Route: Part 5
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- This is a video diary I made of my trip across the Haute Route Pyrenees (HRP) in 2016. I took about 40 days to travel from Hendaye to Banyuls-Sur-Mer, including rest days and additional summit days.
I will be adding more information about my route, planning and experiences on UA-cam and on my blog over the coming weeks.
Enjoyed the series, Nice to see you rocking the Tool hat
Cheers Duncan 🤘 that hat is falling apart now after 7 years of hikes!
@@RichardHartfield But the music's still good :-) Been a fan since 94
Hope you like the new album
Beautiful pictures
Cheers!
Hi Richard, I watched all of your HRP videos and really enjoyed them - thanks - great achievement
Thanks very much Paul!
Nice one Richard! These vids have been very useful in planning my upcoming crack at the HRP next month. Also looking forward to working my way through your other videos. Looks like just the sort of trips I'm wanting to do more of 🤘
Cheers Rudolph, enjoy your hike! :)
Hi Richard. I'm looking to do this route next year and finding your video was great! Congratulations on completing the walk. It's a real achievement. I really enjoyed hearing you talk about how it affected you mentally as well as physically. Hope you've had some great adventures since. All the best.
LongDistanceViewing thanks very much for the kind words and good luck on your walk! I’ve definitely had some adventures since. Crossed the Caucasus through Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan last summer so videos of that on the way!
Excellent video journal of the HRP. Heading out myself this summer, and really enjoyed your videos. Some interesting narrative as you express the ups and downs of the traverse. Great job!
David Hurley thanks David! Have a great hike! :)
fantastic series.. really like your delivery obvious enjoyment & honesty when it was less so ;) congrats on completing it and getting soo many summits in. soo looking forwrd to doing this trip ATB
Well done! I really enjoyed that. 😊
Gareth Owen cheers Gareth! :)
Well done Richard. Great photos and an inspiration to all. What a place to walk and explore. Happy days and a good life to you.
John Uttley thank you very much John.
Richard Hartfield I'm just at Andorra port d rat this year. Your stage 5 is to come in june 2018. I'm 61 with a full military career. Can't get enough of it. I think il turn round at the med and go back on the gr11. Happy days.
Really enjoying these Richard. Many thanks for doing them. I did a week or so of the HRP 20 years ago and your films are motivating me to go and do more. Just seen that there are other reports that I will enjoy watching. Have you read Nicholas Crane's books 'Clear Waters Rising: A Mountain Walk Across Europe' and 'Two Degrees West: An English Journey'? If not, then I highly recommend them as I think you will like both. I've also just seen that you're in Leicester also. I grew up just outside Leicester and developed a passion for mountains also, despite coming from the (relatively) flatlands. Simon
Hi Simon, thanks so much for the kind words. And great to hear from another (almost) Leicester local! I’ve read clear waters rising and absolutely loved it, but still yet to get onto the other one, but it’s on the list! I hope you enjoy doing some more of the HRP one day, there’s so much to see in the Pyrenees and I’m sure it’d be really great to reconnect with the place again after such a long time! all the best, Richard.
@@RichardHartfield Many thanks Richard. I'd like to send you my copy of Two Degrees West as a thank you for sharing such great content, it really is inspirational stuff and very well put together. If you're happy to let me have your address, please DM it to me on Instagram user 'scak456'. Simon
@@opotopo1 thanks so much Simon, that's really kind of you!
@@RichardHartfield You're very welcome Richard. As my wise old grandmother used to say 'pass it on'.
I really enjoyed your vlog and have spent a couple of nights running through all five stages. A great achievement and I hope there are more to come. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thank you very much! I am currently editing videos from my trip this summer across lots of different mountain ranges in the balkans and Eastern Europe, so more to come soon.
Great videos Richard, really well done - thanks for sharing your amazing adventure ! Brought back lots of good memories for me as I did the exact same trek in 2015 - even stayed in the same dirty hut as you just after Parzan during a rain storm. I'm going back again this year but the opposite way this time and think I'll take in the Ordesa Canyon instead of via Heas after seeing your vids - thanks again for sharing your experiences cheers Mark
Cheers Mark! Doing the trip in reverse is a great idea! I'll have to do the same one day. Right now I'm doing lots of research, trying to find inspiration for my next mountain hike. The Pyrenees is going to take some beating though...
Massive congratulations on completing the route. Been a pleasure to follow you along. Thank you.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the videos!
Good job on these videos, interesting and inspiring stuff! Im off to check out the blog after I subscribe, thanks Richard!
well done. that was an amazing adventure. really enjoyed watching it. looking forward to checking out your other vidz.
Wayne Peplow thanks very much!
Thanks for sharing your adventure!!
Thanks for watching! More on the way soon :)
nice, i am very excited! :)
Epic bro 🤙⚡️
🤘😎🤘
Bravo, what an acheivement.....et solo en plus !!! Going from the Atlantic tp the Med, across difficult terrain, all under the summer sun is no small feat.
I've thoroughly enjoyed watching your adventure & a big thanks for taking the time to share it with us.
I saw you posted a link on BcUK which is where I found it. I'm only half surprised you haven't yet got much response from that forum. Ha !
Thanks again;.....oh, I do have one question, did you hear any wolves howling along the way ?
Thanks! I didn't hear any wolves unfortunately, or see any bears :( just lots of marmots and isards!
Really loved the series as with all your other ones, amazing work! I'm considering where to go hiking next summer and was wondering how crowded the Pyrenees were compared to the alps or the mountains in eastern europe? Thanks!
Richard do you remember the name of the Col you camped on the final night? Looks amazing and I’m going to be finishing the HRP in a few days. Thanks
great vid richard;thanks for the experience mate
Thanks!
I had a little problem finding place for a tent after Perthus too. And it was evening already. So I just kept walking on the road till I found a small stone shack and right behind it there was a flat space right enough to pitch my tent. I was tired but happy
Glad you found somewhere to pitch. Le Perthus was not a pleasant (or affordable!) place to stay in. I was knackered though and a big storm broke just as I was arriving so I took the lazy option...
Amazing.
Jordi Roca thanks for watching Jordi, it was such a special experience to hike the route! I’ll never forget it!
Richard Hartfield Yeah, well, the hike was about right, but the tapas in Barcelona, man that’ beyond this world! ;-)) seriously, an incredible route, and a trully inspiring video. I was planning to walk the Camino this summer, but wth, I will go to Irun instead and wherever I can get I hope I can at least one day wake up in any of those astonishing spots you so well catched. Good job. Let me know next time you are in my city, sure I can get you better things than tapas.
Jordi Roca thank you very much for the kind words. I’d definitely recommend one of the Pyrenees routes over the Camino if it’s wild terrain and more solitude/camping that you’re after. Best of luck with your trip! And yes I’ll be in touch next time in Barcelona! :)
Ha, great! Watched all the vids :-)
Thanks for watching James. Your videos/photos were very helpful when planning my trip!
this looks amazing! is there anything i need to know i do this?
Epic trip fella, well done, very inspirational, what did you film it on? A go-pro?
Thanks Ollie. It was all filmed and edited on my smartphone.
